Why is it when I jump into a timetable, and try to operate say.. a gp38 or something.... I release brakes, set reverser.. apply throttle it seems like i have to apply full throttle to get 8mph without cars attached? What am I missing here? With a train attached I can't even get moving.

Do you turn on the three switches for the fuel pump, generator field and whatever the third one is? I believe on most US locomotives they are switched to off by default. Usually they are somewhere around the throttle lever. Without them the train won't move by itself. So what you might be seeing is the locomotive not making any power, simply rolling due to some slight gradient?

Also check your brake settings. You need to cut the brakes in and sometimes change the brake valve settings as well. Usually the tutorial scenario for the locomotive will help you with them.

It may be that you have popped the PCS valve, and you have to reset it before you can get going. On several US diesels as modeled in game, especially those on SPG, it's possible to pop it just by opening the auto brake main valve (not as in real life!)

    1. Check the Control, Generator Field, & Fuel Pump switches. Toggle them to ON
    2. Check the Cut-Off & MU-2A valves. Cut-off to F/P depending on what you're hauling. MU-2A to Lead in the leading loco & Trail-26 in the trailing locos.
    3. Check if the Pneumatic Control Switch (PCS) is tripped. ( EMD F7 - White Bulb on the dashboard; Other locos. - Red indicator on control stand or MFD) Reset procedure depends on the loco.
    4. Check the handbrake. ( 'Released' by default in TSW - Release manually if necessary )
