Friendly Reminder That Edinburgh-glasgow Is Still Very Broken

Dear Rivet, please fix this dog's dinner of a route and train. It's on your doorstep for your Stirling studio so it really deserves better.

 

This route is super forgettable. I had completely forgotten it existed up until this point

Okay, I don't care about the route, but if I only need 385, what should I do?

 

Get it for Cathcart circle remaster, the 380 timetable has empty stock as well as ai 385s at central station

 

They must be super proud of ignoring all communitys feedback while spit into the paying customers face.

Same here. And without being personal, Jasper is a past master at selective response to feedback. Twice I pinged him recently over the erroneous speed limit on the St Ives branch in the Up direction, which holds you to 20 MPH all the way from Carbis Bay to St Erth instead of reverting to 30 after the foot crossing. No response and nothing done or ever likely to. DTG should sack them from any future DLC production.

 

Oh Rivet don't care, they have forgotten about it and it's now down to Skyhook to sort the timetables out, same with Fife Circle.

 

Rivet will “come back” for the upcoming Fife Circle Levenmouth branch update to then disappear again. The 385 sounds update they promised ? Gone to the abysses as well.


It appears that at the moment they’re more busy massacring another forever-beta game: The Bus


Anyway don’t hope for anything from Rivet Games.

 

Would be quite happy if they were never allowed near any TSW content again.

When you watch something like JT's stream last night and see the effort that has been put in and the resultant quality of the game (and of course the scenery) and compare it to the actual mess that Rivet have made - and left - with all their routes it's actually staggering.

Sure, for many, scenery isn't the most important aspect of the game but it should play a major part at least and the scenery on Fife Circle and Edinburgh-Glasgow is an utter abomination.

Fife Circle been out a long time now and yet somehow there's still "Glasgow Queen Street" platform signs at Burntisland !

 

I always thought that was strange it was 20mph one way and not the other. I guess they don't care about fixing it.

 

Also the 5MPH speed limit over the foot crossing at St Ives, it's only for the foot crossing, trains speed back up for the final section into St Ives bay platform.

 

I actually don't mind the route too much, I just hate the Class 385s. They are so bad, the driving position is so far away from the small window and you can barely see anything its like looking through a keyhole. Also the audio for the Class 385s is so bad. I much more enjoy the route driving other trains but its not the same when its not official timetable/scenarios. Note I currently don't own the Class 380 or Class 158. I cannot justify spending £13 each for them.

 

It's tricky buying dlc that's limited to a couple of routes.
The 158 is getting a new paint scheme for Leven.Now it's worth the money Previous to this, I wouldn't have recommended it,it just had a minor makeover and timetable.There's currently not many DMU in TSW for the UK.
The 380 is well-done but there's plenty emu's already.

 

Just add it to the list, the continually growing list.

At least they aren't trying to stream the entire game like FS2024 I guess.........

 

Do you know if it's also going to be added to the timetable for non-Leven Fife Circle services too ? Living here I know that a large percentage of journeys on this route are still operated by the 158 and I do find it a bit more fun to drive than the 170.

Just a bit of speculation, Skyhook are usually quite handy adding stuff in.
Haven't seen or read anything else.
Just waiting for Rivet to release the update/bug fix now.

 

Totally agree that if they cannot be bothered to go back and fix ALL of these errors and faults, they should be further excluded from the 3rd party partner program. Various other developers have made the effort to make changes where necessary to improve their products but Rivet seem to have zero care in this respect which is a real shame seeing as they were pretty much the first partner in TSW. Come on Rivet, show us some passion and respect as this will only help you to sell dlc in the future. The only alternative is that customers end up boycotting your dlcs.

 

Rivet are the polar opposite of JT and a disgrace to this Franchise. They should be broken up and individually farmed out to DTG and other 3rd party devs so they can learn how it should be done.

 

Rivet are the Pukka pies of the train sim scene. Look nice and tasty on the outside, but when you open them get a few pieces of meat floating in a gelatinous gravy!

I don't own the route, but there has been mention before of a poor timetable (I think some services are even missing altogether), poor 385 sounds and the usual scenery issues I think. All of which are why I never purchased the route (mainly because of the timetable, I'm not familiar enough with the train or scenery to know how inaccurate they are).

 

It's just generally very boring as well.

I have several routes made by Rivet Games and, while they're not ones I play that often, I don't think that they are nearly as problematic as this thread is alleging. They're driveable at least. If you find E- G " very boring ", that's just a personal opinion, not a failure of the developer.

And we should not forget that Rivet have likely contributed to several routes and rolling stock released by other developers, including DTG. That makes talk of " boycotts " and " exclusion " a little ridiculous.

Some of the comments here are OTT and a bit " cheap shot " I would say.
Something of a " piling on " going on here.

 

Not run the route much,I was waiting for the update.
To see how much progress; for Fife getting a polish up.
Floating scenery objects 11 miles out from Edinburgh for more than one mile.
Not near my pc till tonight,so cannot be more detailed.
Half hearted audio on the 385 ; Jack's already mentioned.
Don't know if it's the same with Glasgow to Edinburgh.

 

I agree the 385 has poor sounds. I can't say the route itself is bad though. It seems generally well made. The original timetable was poor but the revised one with the 158 is better. Although that was made by Skyhook I believe.

And for those calling for the demise of Rivet, I say speak for yourselves. Not everyone wants to see them disappear. We again are talking about actual people, probably some with families and mortgages. Not faceless entities.

They have produced some good routes and some interesting routes and trod where other developers haven't. I will say WCL was quite a lot point though.

 

Thing is, if rivet listened to their feedback, it wouldn’t be as toxic as it is now. Play dumb games, win stupid prizes, if you can’t take criticism of your products, then don’t bother.

don’t get me wrong credit where’s due, rivet can produce some great stuff, I think Bernina and IOW2022 are good examples that they are capable of making good things.

but rivet just constantly miss out on communication and feedback. Something which assures the community the most.

Not interested in knocking Rivet.
They do need to be more accountable and fix issues.
I bought Fife and Glasgow to Edinburgh.
I support them,so support your buying public properly.
Fife could be one of the best routes in TSW, it just needs some fixes and a realistic timetable.
The Glasgow express route,I've not got round to spending much time on.
So it wouldn't be right for me to moan about it.

 

1) I very rarely go to the cab, it's not a problem for me
2) There is a gorgeous mod for sounds for the 385th, also not a problem

The only problem would be wasting money on such a crappy route, even at a discount, kek

 

Really needs better audio for the 385, is the worst problem I think.

E-G is maybe the most boring drive in TSW, though i'm not sure if that's Rivet's fault tbh.

The sounds on the 385 certainly don't seem right, though i'm far from an expert. It's just not a fun route though i can't really put my finger on it. Even Fife Circle, which is of objectively lower quality, is at least more interesting.

Regarding Rivet overall- they're just so maddeningly inconsistent! Bernina and IOW22 are really good IMO, while things like Fife are just dire. WCL despite all the hate is a fun drive if you avoid the included 150. They're just all over the place lol.

 

The basic problem has to do with the real world: an unexciting train on an unexciting route. What could any dev do to liven it up? Add dancing girls and door prizes?

 

I wasn't having a dig at Rivet for that and it is indeed my personal opinion. I also find Cathcart and Glossop dull but I don't blame the devs for those either.

Then you go out of the way to create both to the highest possible standard. Goblin Line is the quintessential UK electric bus service but DTG did a better than average job on both the route and train which alleviates the boredom.

And it's not just the fact Rivet tend to fudge things up, it's their intransigence and wall of silence when obvious and glaring errors are pointed out, let alone general low quality issues. Like the dreadful WCL and 150, even just sorting out the speed limits on the St Ives branch would show some willing.

IMHO Rivet really have no pride in their work and are content to churn it out almost as readily as DTG lap it up and put it on the TSW store to get their commission. As they were kind of mentioned in passing earlier, they make TML look good...

This has never been a great route, and the 385 never a great unit, but they were better than their previous attempts on release. However the thing which really grinds me down with this route is that they tried to make improvements, but these ended up making the route, and the 385 especially a whole lot worse!

 

DTG Matt asks for detail on what is broken and everyone (except solicitr) continues on their merry way down the hate hole....sigh...

 

I submitted 10 bug reports last year with detailed descriptions and screen shots of them, and as usual, I never got any response to this day.

Even if you notify DTG of bugs through the official channels, you will be ignored or accused of nitpicking.

Everybody knows it's a complete waste of time at this point.

And hit-and-run posts like yours contribute nothing to the conversation.

At least make an effort to say something constructive.

 

I guess i'm part of the hate-hole, hooray lol.

For me it's just uninspired and boring rather than completely broken, and so it's hard to nail down specifics.

Part of it is i feel like i hardly see any passing traffic, and when there is, it's just another 385. Maybe this is realistic, i've never experienced it IRL. I also don't find the scenery very interesting other than Edinburgh itself. You don't even get to really see Glasgow due to the nature of the approach to Queen Street.

Here is the list of bugs you requested:

• The is no rain buildup on the class 385 cab window once you’ve wiped away the rain with the wiper once.
  
• There don’t seem to be any end destination audio announcements for the services to Dunblane. The lady just said “this train is going to Edinburg Waverley” instead, even though I was in fact driving away from that station. I guess these were simply just not recorded in the first place. But in the event they were indeed recorded, please implement the audio!
• PIS seems to be hit or miss with the AI trains. It’s also notoriously difficult to select a destination yourself with the two little arrows, because you can’t see which destination you’ve currently selected at the same time (at least on console).
• The neutral zones seem to be quite inconsistent. I did not notice any abnormal behavior a few times near Edinburgh, but then got a heavy brake application near Falkirk High.
• There sometimes seems to be a temporary (half a minute or so) high-pitched whistling sound which gets quite obnoxious. I noticed this while in the external cam, far away from my train while driving, and standing at Polmont station while a train was driving away. Not noticing any issues at Glasgow Queen Street now, so seems to be really random.
• At the terminus stations, the AI train doors are closed almost 99% of the time they’re stationary there. Shouldn’t the doors be opened once arriving and then only close when the next service gets moving?
• There are multiple green signal bell buttons throughout the 385. All of them work correctly, except for the one directly to the left of the driver’s seat, near the door release buttons. It can’t be spammed and often stops making any signal beeps at all.
• There is still a “neon” blue effect/transition when entering/exiting some of the tunnels along the route.
• When you’re trying to open the blinds back up on the driver’s window, you need to move the cursor towards the top of the window for the option to appear. Normally in TSW, the option to open/close the blinds appears wherever the “handle” of the blind currently is.
• At the rear end of the Class 385 trains in timetable mode, the “gangway” is completely open and accessible, and passengers are theoretically only hindered from jumping down onto the rails by the yellow middle door. Surely the door separating the gangway and cab area from the passenger cabin should also be closed by default?
• There is a blue rectangular box near the end of the rails between platforms 4 and 5 at Glasgow Queen Street, which can only be seen when approaching from the north. It suddenly disappears as soon as you’re south of the box. Very interesting, probably just a tick box that wasn’t ticked somewhere.
• There is no route introduction, and the Class 385 training module is not visible when trying to access it from the main menu via Choose Route -> Edinburgh-Glasgow (via journey mode or selecting the Training Center route still works). Surely a route introduction exists (like for all TSW routes), it just isn’t being displayed to the player.
• The reading light in the 385’s cab doesn’t work, can’t even be pressed. Very unusual for TSW, is this intended?
• Class 385 BILs do not always illuminate when passenger doors are opened.

personal biggest issue is the external sound mix when riding outside the train; ignoring the actual unit sounds that have been used, the mix sounds like excessively loud wind / washing machine noise and nothing else… it also plays on a very short loop, so as well as the “noise”, you regularly get a loud bang / thud as the loop restarts.

if it was “wrong train sound used” but mixed same as on all other routes, it would be tolerable (to me), but it’s too grating to use the 385 at all so have avoided it.

Having the 158 added to EDI-GLA was fantastic, as now have a timetable of 158’s I can run the route with, but that sound mix on the 385….

Here’s one I noticed - several bridges are too low. The roof of trains clips through the bridge. I tested with a few trains including an HST and the roof of the train was clipped inside the bridge.

 

I’ve got some other alternatives for anyone playing Edinburgh Glasgow on PC:

What I would recommend for people is to download the Edinburgh Glasgow Enhancement Pack by londonmidland, SprattyHeath, and LWReskins, it is very good, and makes the route foliage and scenery just way better, also recommend ItsYa165 and Raphs Class 385 Soundmod, makes the 385 sound way better.

they’ve all done a fantastic job of polishing the route with these enhancement packs, and it really does freshen up the experience
