And what has this whinge got to do with the OP which is deciding the most scenic route in the game. I'm no fanboy when it comes to DTG and some aspects of TSW but there are plenty of other threads expressing constructive discontent if you really want to chip in.

New account, I smell this weekend's troll incoming.

And if you think TSW is bad, I just wasted £42 on Farming Sim 25 which adds very little the previous versions don't already offer and runs 1999 era graphics so poorly I need to drop the resolution from 4K to 1440p. And pity the poor barstools who just forked out £70+ for MSFS2024 which is so reliant on downloading data from the cloud - even the aircraft - each time you play, the game either never starts, doesn't display correctly or simply crashes. By comparison TSW is a beacon of quality and reliability.

If it was done properly, London to Brighton would probably be one of the best, but unfortunately 99% of the buildings for that route being generic. The only buildings from the top of my head that were custom made were Battersea Power Station, the skyscrapers around East Croydon (which look pretty low-res to be honest), and some buildings in the Gatwick area.

Going off the previews we've seen, Preston to Carlisle will probably take the top spot for me.

I just couldn't justify buying either compared to sticking with the older versions.
Maybe in another year when there's a sale and more content... but both right now seem like a pricey downgrade from the previous versions.

Well, nothing in the rules about not being bold in your first post. And it's been approved by a moderator I presume.

Yes, it's not relevant to the subject at hand, but it's hardly a rant. And he/ she isn't the only one to post irrelevant subject matter in this thread.

Maybe he/she is not quite sure where to post.

And he/she is right!! It can be an expensive hobby, we all know that.

How about being a little more charitable and forgiving to a first timer.
If this turns out to be a troll, I'll be the first to ignore it.

Thinking about the OP, I would say TVL is very atmospheric. And SPG is the most technically scenic route. Blackpool is also very good.

I never said there were rules, you seem to have interpreted that as a negative comment, when it weren't. It definitely sounds like a rant (or at least the start of one) to my brain and clearly I am not the only one who has heard it that way. Again, that is why I also gave the suggestion of creating their own thread to discus an issue as it would mean it would be the right place for a discussion to take place. Once more, I didn't say I agreed nor disagreed with what they said in their post, though for the record I don't think it is expensive at all really but this is a factor which will differ for everyone on this forum. Perhaps you should not dive head first into posting in the future?

Oh, if only things worked like that, you could get away with murder, though of course I am sure none of us need to, do we? Not that there is much left of it mate, but you have a lovely evening, get yourself a nice cuppa and ponder that thought. I know I will be. :)

Bernina is absolutely gobsmacking in places. Would say Peak Forest and Linke Rheinstrecke as the rest of my top 3 most scenic.

Finally able to enjoy Bernina in double digit framerates since getting an RTX 4090.
It's the one route that even with my new graphics card regularly drops into the VRR compensation range when everything else gets 60-90 on the same settings.

Scenic in terms of landscape etc. I would say Semmeringbahn, the part between Mürzzuschlag and Gloggnitz.

Attention to detail with individual assets, e.g. trees, has to be Niddertalbahn. That really is next level.

Hard to answer this because each player has their own scenery preferences. I like Bernina for it's mountain scenery.

That’s definitely an interesting pick! The overwhelming majority of players seem to criticize the monotonous scenery of that route. It genuinely looks identical no matter where you are between Peterborough and Doncaster.

Not surprising given a large chunk is in Lincolnshire.

It's a mostly flat county with bland scenery.

The section of Cane Creek from about Seven Mile south to Potash has some of the most beautiful and dramatic scenery in the game. Unfortunately, north of that is extremely dull, especially at 20 mph at night.

I must agree with NTB and Blackpool, but I also really like the scenery of Frankfurt Fulda as well; it seems I just can't stop playing that route. From the videos I have watched, it looks like we will be adding one more route to this list come Tuesday the 26th!

Cajon pass has some good landscapes from what I remember.

Cane Creek It's in a sale at the moment about 50% discount. Is it any good ?

The only good scenic portions of Cajon Pass were around Victorville, the pass itself is extremely terrible when compared to Cane Creek or IRL.

once preston-carlisle releases that'll probably be the most scenic route once it takes my first place spot for NTP and BPO.

Best route overall factoring other elements like layering and length I can see. But if we're judging purely on a scenery level I don't see it, it's decent for sure, especially track-side, but Niddertalbahn is a considerably better route than it and Blackpool if we're just talking about scenery.

I play only the German route, so I can only speak about them (I have almost all). Within the German routes the best by far is Niddertalbahn. The second one would be a very old one. RSN.

Scenery is great but gameplay is a bit meergh. If you speak to the speed limits, a large portion of the run is at 25 MPH or less. The timetable had a bit of window dressing but can't hide the fact this is an ultra low traffic level route where the number of trains is counted on a weekly rather than daily basis.

The route was largely abandoned by Skyhook so there are still a few oddities such as the roads or floating rocks and I believe one of the locos has the bogie on back to front, never fixed.

So I would say definitely wait for a deep sale, at least 50% off.

Cathcart Circle looks really good after the remaster. Definitely has that Glasgow vibe to it now.

Niddertalbahn is stunning. Especially that bit where you feel like your in the middle of a forest.

Preston - Carlisle looks terrific for its scenery however I’m a little bit gutted about the close by hills near Carlisle being really bland looking. The texture on those hills look so blurry looking lol.

I wonder if it still has that crazy " ghost " road traffic noise. Haven't ventured on the route for quite a while. Also some of the rolling stock was rather odd for nuclear waste disposal, as I recall.

The thing is, if you're from the UK or Europe I suppose the scenery looks impressive, but in my humble opinion doesn't really compare with some of the western routes in TSC, particularly the Canadian Rockies.

For me, the most scenic route is definitely the Niddertalbahn (still in 2024 ;)). The new vegetation was a huge step forward at the time and unfortunately has not been used for new routes since.

The construction of the (small) towns was also very realistic, which created a great atmosphere. This has not been achieved to this day, perhaps with the Blackpool route, but nothing comes after that for a long time.

Now comes a picture wall :D

And how at certain times of the year, everything goes a bit Command and Conquer as the vegetation appears to be replaced by glowing Tiberium crystals.

Nowt wrong with Lincolnshire's scenery more interesting than that of places further south! I will admit to the untrained eye it may look bland but once you watch a sunset/sunrise over that flat land it gives a whole new perspective.

I have to say I find Cane Creek very scenic. Skyhook for any faults the may have are superb 3D and Landscape artists.
I agree route is light on traffic, but that is prototypical for the route.
It was Skyhooks first route so they played to their strengths in choice of route

Does the 218 come with Niddertalbahn?

One thing I find on the US routes is the diesels are fairly quiet and generic. It mostly puts me off the US routes, maybe if you're from the US it's more entertaining.

No the 218 does not come with Niddertalbahn, nor does the loco layer or substitute on that route. Any use of it will have to be done by the player either using free roam or scenario editor. The loco pack itself adds services/Journey mode on Hamburg to Lubeck together with a substitute timetable on Maintalbahn.

However, there is a (modern) timetable mod with which the 218 can be operated in the timetable on the Niddertalbahn.

I am waiting for the DB 218 to be included in Niedertalbahn officially, I am willing to pay it as an additional DLC. Console players do not have access to Mod in any case.

I don't want to disappoint you, but I don't think there will be an update for the Niddertalbahn in the form of a new official timetable. The 218 has been out for a while now and should have been built into the route (Niddertalbahn) right from the start. The few trips for the Maintalbahn and Hamburg - Lübeck were far too few.
