I came across your game Train Simulator and I really am interested in buying it. I have cerebral palsy which affects my mobility and speech. As such I require assistive technology. Which is impossible to use inside your game. It locks out the cursor. I am asking you to allow head mice and dwell clicking to be able to function in your game. As a person with a disability games like yours will let me explore the world while getting to experience driving the train. Which I always wanted to do. The current software I use is Dwell Clicker 2. Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing from you.
DTG Matt is passionate about access for all. He does weekend long fundraisers a couple of times a year (see October’s report here!) for SpecialEffect, a charity that helps unlock gaming for those who benefit from assistive technology. I’m sure the team would be keen to understand how they can help - tagged Matt above so hopefully you get noticed and someone will reach out.
As mentioned Special Effect do have a relationship with DTG. I recall hearing on some streams with Matt that they have visited their offices. So it may be Special Effect could offer some practical advice.
I'd love to hear more about what you use, how you use it and what does/doesn't work with the game. Matt.
Assuming you're using a PC, you can get a mouse cursor to appear at any time by just right clicking once anywhere. Not sure if Dwell Clicker 2 can do that looking at a quick video on their site. If you can point me at more info that'd be much appreciated. What I would suggest is dropping a note to the Special Effect team, I feel certain they will have some good advice for you generally (it's free) and may be able to help with recommendations - but either way, I'd love to help you get the best out of this. Matt.
Hello Matt, Thank you for your quick reply to my concerns. I use tracker pro 2 and also Glassouse head mouse. In the game it locks out my dwell clicker so I can't get to my on screen keyboard to use the 'wasd' keys to walk. Even if I was able to use the on screen keyboard it is hard to use because I can't use 'wasd' keys all at once. A teleport and a click option would allow me to move around easier. Once in the game I am not able to right click to access the keyboard. Thanks for your time. If you need more info let me know. Thanks again Chris
Hello, and apologies for the delay in replying. We've been speaking to our friends at SpecialEffect (mentioned above), and they offered a couple of options, as well as some recommendations our side, which I've forwarded onto Matt separately. The most immediate thing to try is running the game in windowed fullscreen as opposed to regular fullscreen, to see if it’s a priority window issue, similar to how some games are odd about tabbing out when run in fullscreen mode, but tab fine when in windowed mode. If that doesn't work, then the SpecialEffect team have some in-house software that might be able to help, but they'd need to set that up with you individually to set up a bespoke interface. I've primed them that you might reach out, so if you contact them here: https://www.specialeffect.org.uk/contact-us , they should be able to help. Hope this helps, and apologies in getting the response to you.
Fully agree with DTG JD, imho DX Exclusive Fullscreen is a relic of the past where you'd save on every possible resource and shut down the OS handling the displays, relying on the code to handle buffer saving and restoring for a few FPS more (if at all - twenty years ago it made a difference). Also, (Exclusive) Fullscreen does not allow overlays, which you will need. The de facto standard for modern games is Borderless (Windowed) Fullscreen, many games don't even name it as Windowed any more but it is. What DTG could do is make Windowed Fullscreen the default.
We did look into that, but must admit back then when we tried it the consensus was that it often ran at a lower fps than full screen did. We can look into it again. Matt.
'course I can only speak for my system. I'm sure you're testing a range of different hardware. Anyone remember "add21k" from the Amiga days, reducing the OS to one bitplane (two colours) before launching the game?
Thank you for getting back to me. I have been speaking with SpecialEffect as well to find a solution. They sent me a custom profile they made for TSW. I tried windowed mode and it didn't work. The overlays from Alt Controller do not show up. When I try to use the Dwell Clicker software it gets stuck on the camera. While right clicking frees the cursor, I am not able to do that independently. Is there a way to somehow allow the dwell clicker to work within the game? If I could just hover over the interactions that would solve the problem.
Keep talking with SpecialEffect, we are also doing that, it may be we need to make some game changes to support in which case I can't make any promises but the first step is to understand the issue and see what needs to be done. Matt.
Thank you. I look forward to working with you and your team to resolve the issues so I can finally play the game. I'll continue speaking with SpecialEffect.
