Saw this in the new route. Not from the UK, but I think it's supposed to be "carpertright." I don't mind when they can't get licensing for the game and "fudge" it a bit. However, there are some who really don't like it and think it "breaks the immersion." What do you think?
For stuff like that I don't mind, I find it quite humorus, on Cathcart Circle at Glasgow Central overlooking the platforms is the hotel Judge Inn, in place of the real life "Jury's inn" hotel.
It kinda looks out of place a bit i think they have left it without the fictional branding that's just my thought
Nah, it's a absolutely fine and I have a sense of humour and enjoy things like this. It doesn't bother me in the slightest... And certainly not an immersion breaker for me either.
JT have a way of making us recognise branding but without breaching copyright etc. In their MML route for TSC (and possibly others too) there was Pets at Work, which is a play on Pets at Home.
When you play the Aggragetes senario on MML you have to sigh off in the workers building.. In there is a printer on the desk with the name "Sister" instead of "Brother" I thought that was funny..
On ECML they named the real life Frenchgate shopping centre as "Frenchfence".. which i actually liked to be fair no problem with that at all! i do think the Carpetwrong instead of Carpetright is a little too bold & in your face and maybe a little out of place, it does break immersion for me (unlike Frenchfence in ECML which for me subtly blends into the background) just my own opinion, i feel sometimes these subtle changes to avoid copyright have their place (such as ECML Frenchfence, and also the Cathcart Glasgow's Judge's Inn, they're more subtle and playful on the words) but for me the Carpetwrong definitely draws the eye a little too much for me, even if it said something like 'Carpetleft' instead it would be less stand out while still being fun and playful but it's all just minor in the grand scheme of things!
Non rail & train related buildings is something i really not care about the real brand. Not a problem at all if they make a fictional brand. I just dont like fantasy stuff like ufos or wird big size cheese buildings as mastery. THAT is ruining the immersion for me. Also shows a bit lack of of creativity since there is plenty of train or route related scenery to add.
Carpetwrong is a bit too far, though I do have memories of giving the guest houses I made for one of my old MSTS routes quirky names - like "Rubber Sheet Hotel". Though I'm sure I recall reading somewhere Carpetright were a bit in the hole financially, so maybe "Carpetbroke" might be more appropriate. Or in all seriousness, why not just "Carpet Sales", or "Flooring Superstore", harmlessly generic?
I love this sort of stuff. One of the driving simulators I’ve played had “MadEx” instead of “FedEx” which always gives me a hoot
I honestly haven't even noticed this. Though it is more accurate than the company's actual name, took three attempts for them to sort me out and get things right.
I think it's funny spotting the play on titles& company names.Understand the branding lark that plays out more and more, the time involved in ECML,just for the few on the bit we've got, would probably have folk tearing their hair out. One thing though, don't want train operators done like that. Great British Railways, let's see how that goes.
Yeah if it’s just buildings in the scenery I don’t mind it to be honest. The best one has to be the “Weatherfork” restaurant outside Edinburgh Waverly. A funny take on the real life “Wetherspoons”. Found it amusing when I first noticed it.
I think what makes this one a bit jarring is its proximity to the track, and it being a well-known national brand.
Would a train simulator be much better if DTG actually got carpet right name, what play quality would this add to the game? There are a load of fictional items in the game that are only created for TSW, the funny named coffee shops, do we need costa coffee or whatever, I would say no. Now, if DTG lost branding on a train, then it is serious, but I think this only happens rarely once a deal is struck.
Think they’re the company that won’t even move a coffee table out of the way to lay the carpet. We walk by the back of their Swindon store sometimes en route to Sainsbury’s when their fitters are loading up in the morning. Right rough lot and do you really want one of those oafs in your house! One of the reasons why I taught myself to lay laminate flooring!!
I've just thought. Doesn't Hamburg Hbf have a massive Phillips logo on it in game? I remember them saying for scenery items such as that they don't need a license but would take it off if Phillips asked them to.
Yes, it does. Reading Station also features WH Smith, Whistle Stop, and Pumpkin Cafe, which are all real brands.
Yeah, unless it’s stations or trains, things such as warehouses and shops, I’m not really fussed if they use fictional brands.
Happy with CarpetWrong, not happy with the class 350. If it's just a business on the trackside (nothing more than scenery) then I'm all for it, but things that directly affect the railway (such as LNWR or Network Rail) then I'd have some reservations.
Personally whilst it isn't really that important I feel it is going a little too far. Whilst it might not be a railway related building it is still something which can easily be seen from the tracks and spoils the immersion a little bit. There are many amusing and clever business names in real life and in the sim but whilst this is amusing it isn't really something which adds realism.
Watching anime I have come across lots of changed companies, such as WcDonalds as one. So for me it doesn't break the immersion at all, I prefer to see redone names than having no names at all. Also when I am driving my last thought is what name does that company have, as I am trying to keep to time.
No, it’s great and comes from a tradition of such brandings. Remember Bryan Ferries on East Coastway? I would rather they spent resource on making a great route than paying out for branding (mind you, logically the companies should really be paying DTG for including their branding but I don’t think it works like that).
I do think Skyhook missed a trick with Brush at Loughborough, Ok I get that they couldn't get the license to use Brush but maybe something like "Sweeper" or something like that. Or maybe even just "Works"
One of the TSC routes (can't remember which now) had a representation of the deli chain 'Upper Crust' on the concourse at Edinburgh Waverley renamed as 'Crusty Supper'.... I properly laughed out loud at that one!
Well this does fly in the face of comments made on other threads about how important accurate branding was and that people would rather have nothing if they couldn't have exact branding. Good to see some open minds here.
It still remains a no go zone when it comes to the focus of the sim. If this were a carpet fitter sim, I would be expecting the Carpetright licence to be held, but seeing as it is a train sim it would be wasted time, money and resources to do this for every business set up along a railway line.
I saw "Carpetwrong" on Just Trains live stream before the route released, and it definitely raised a smile. If inner-city scenery was accurately recreated in TSW, every other trackside wall and bridge pillar would have a huge **** and balls graffitied on them, so it's probably best to avoid full realism. Haha, I'd love to see a "Carpetwrong" TV advert.
