Hi experts, can anybody tell me, how to ease from one curve radius to another curve radius without having a small straight track? I need a curve wich is bend to a smaller radius at the end of the whole curve to fit the platform.
You lay one curve (either in Circular Arc mode, or in Auto mode but then delete the easement), you set your mode to "Clothoid Easements" and start from the end of your first curve, then drag the easement out until the tooltip reaches the radius of R2. Then you can lay R2 in Circular Arc mode, and another Clothoid Easement after R2 manually to finish it up
This doesn't work for me. DTG Lukas can you give a hint on designing multi radius curves please? How to design platforms in curves with widened tracks?
After some more tests on this, I’ve got comfortable with laying eased curves. But there is still one big problem: how to connect to straight track? Using the auto mode ore the arc mode to get the blue helper creates hard radius jumps. Clothoide mode has no blue auto connect helper.
I would love to see a proper tutorial on exactly what can be done with Clothoid Easement and Auto modes. I’ve been working all afternoon replacing three high speed curves which were originally laid in Circular Arc mode, resulting in an extremely uncomfortable ride in each case. After a huge amount of trial and error the ride feels much smoother than before but I’m not happy that I’m using these tools in the best way possible. So far I haven’t used the Auto setting at all as I have no idea what it actually automates.
Auto creates an easement - circular arch - easement for simple curves. Clothoid Easement should be used for more complex multple curve kind of curves. This would be like an easement into a curve that then goes into another easement with possible changing speeds. Remember setting the speed of the line alongside using the auto/clothoid easement tools gets the best results. This also applies to super elevation the closer the easement is to the start of a curve from straight the lower the number should be.
A quick thanks for getting me up and running with the track laying easement tools moofers#8902. Spent a fair proportion of the last couple of days getting the hang of smoothing out some of my earlier very dodgy curves so I'm a much happier bunny now.
