So was the mildmay line but that has been included in the reveals. In case you didn’t know the dev working on the NYMR is now an official 3rd party partner with DTG.
I believe we could be seeing the comeback of Steam. If it is a new route or loco, what makes so special to not announce it in a Roadmap so I believe that DTG have been secretly working on Steam traction in the background and now they comfortable to announce it's comeback.. I can't really think of anything that would benefit from a 'big announcement' if it could be softly announced in a Roadmap but it's clear that TSW steam had potential that was DTG just didn't aknowlege so bringing it back should be worth a fan fair over a small, soft announcement unless it's something that DTG know we have been wanting for a loooong time like the the 225 set, Class 55 or 50
I've just got on the phone with the DTG team and they've given me permission to announce it early. Players who bought Train Sim World CSX Heavy Haul prior to the release of Great Western Express will be eligible for a free Double Whopper from Burger King. The thing is that for it to be considered a larger than usual reveal it can't (shouldn't) be just a route or train pack. It has to be bigger - a feature, a bundle like Rush Hour, a new project... Ignoring my previous joke guesses, my real one is that it'll be multiplayer because I think it's the only thing that would justify a 'grand reveal'.
Will throw a (somewhat loquacious) guess in. - I don't think it'll be pure core, like announcements. That stuff is reserved for mainline TSW releases, and if/when it does come I don't think it'll be backdated to old routes, or at least not quickly (see: Suspension), because old routes aren't routinely revisited for dev work, so I think it'd only be a new route to begin with, and a new route that includes announcements isn't, to me, worthy of 'big reveal' moniker. It's not something that's going to excite social media - remember that the Season of Reveals is not just for this forum but is also for consumption across other media like Insta and TikTok (y'all moaning about the portrait vids) and to create engagement about the game to current non-players (who definitely don't care about announcements or lack of). - Unreal Engine 5? See comment about not exciting social media. Also, Matt has explained why this wouldn't actually help the game without basically rewriting all the customisations they've done to UE4. - Career mode? Again, would be surprised if this came out-of-band from a full release of TSW, and not sure how it adds value to the existing game in a way that merits 'big reveal'. - Multiplayer? Done to death - TSW isn't designed for it and DTG are exploring, via the winter survey, what they can do in lieu of multiplayer. Too early for any concrete output IMO. Matt's said he's excited. I think it has to be more than just a typical route in one of the usual countries (nor simply a loco), because this is being sold as 'special' and I think needs to broadly appeal to more than the playerbase of one country. I don't even think a new country would be worthy of a 'big reveal' in this way (plus DTG is already taking a punt on the Dutch route, and that's still got months of dev to go). So if it's not a core change that affects all routes, and it's not simply a normal route. That leaves one of two things: - A route that comes with a big new or revamped core feature, that is worth shouting about to existing players and new. I think those people upthread predicting the return of Steam may be right. That would be quite the pleaser, and worth the hype. But where? The UK? We've already had many UK-themed reveals this time, and we have two UK steam routes, though they could use some help (albeit new Steam physics might be backported to fix those). Germany could be a candidate for a new Steam route, though. Alternatively, the only route that I think could merit a 'big reveal' right now but otherwise not include some core feature change like Return of Steam, is Eurostar (per #288, maybe others), but I don't know what the actual route would be in that case. Yes, they could borrow St Pancras to Ashford from SEHS to make things easier, but how far into France can they get? TSW routes have a rep of being cut short, so that makes me think odds aren't high. - Something entirely different. Had TSW:VR not already been announced, and announced as a separate product from existing TSW (I understand why that was done - VR is best delivered from the ground up as a crafted experience rather than bolted on), I would've put money on some sort of VR support, but even if it were plausible to add VR to original TSW, doing it now would detract from the launch of TSW:VR, so this isn't the big reveal. How about TSW for iPhone/Android? Well, Matt's said that Unreal Engine can work on those, but it's not simple. And those platforms are notorious for not making money for game developers - everything is micro-transaction focused, which TSW isn't. So DTG wouldn't get RoI on it. So what else could 'something entirely different' look like? Hardware? i.e. A competitor to Raildriver that works across consoles too? The complexity in delivering that, with probably only thousands of units likely to shift, means I'm not sure they'd consider it worthwhile from a business perspective, but it would certainly warrant a 'big reveal'. And is it even possible to make a universal controller? Surely DTG would have the same challenges that Raildriver has (unless DTG's controller could properly emulate an Xbox/PS5 controller - but then how much value does it add?). And wouldn't you attempt to get it ready in time for purchase as a Christmas present? All that said, it would at least be worthy of a 'big reveal'. Or what about a different software product? (but we've already got CTS:Tram, TSW:VR and Tycoon on the way - it feels like a lot to be launching another thing, and from the Winter Survey it feels like DTG are just beginning to explore other modes of play). Perhaps not software then. A TSW subscription offering, similarly, wouldn't excite the existing playerbase as a 'big reveal' - the existing players have voiced that, on average, they're not interested. It'd be something for new players only, so I don't think the staff would've come in and fanned this thread if that were the answer. Having done some reasoning, then, my two predictions are: - Return of Steam (more likely) - Universal hardware for TSW (less likely)
Either, something to do with next year's 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington railway. Or we're getting an NSE era East Anglian route with all DTG Matt's old train spotting haunts in it.
I used this brand of glue (UHU) always for my model railroad...if it is a hint, it is a hint towards a 'model railroad' again!
if it is. I'd hope in a style of build ur own little model railroad with the DLC you have and drive trains on there. both the models on dlc and a way of how this driving existed (previous christmas dlc) sounds cool. then again announcements or maybe a creators club rework to have actual editor projects be able to be downloaded sounds more logical to me than steam how they dropped it lately or the people saying it will just be a british route they want. Matt has recently said in streams they hired multiple people to work on the whole editor. might it be more accessible and ready soon? New DLC or core features are very cool. but I can get excited by giving everyone who plays the game and wants to make it better a way to make that dream true.
London to Paris? Actually that is too many miles in one hit. Probably would of been some info leaked on that by now. So it's an Xmas model train....
DTG have prototyped multiplayer in Train Sim World and from what was said it did work, but not very well. Perhaps he forgot to put a W in front of the image, which would spell Wuhu, and would prove my theory that they're adding Wuhu Island from the Wii series into TSW.
I believe DTG has stated that they are not looking into Multiplayer at the moment but then again, I'm hoping it's a comeback of steam
They just had fanfare for "route hopping" and said that's the best they could do, so.... sorry =-) Military Cargo Pack is far enough along the "reveal" could simply be a release date.
What ever it is, I have a feeling we’re hyping it up too much. I could totally see it something to cater for casual players (I.e multiplayer)
Now that would be BEAUTIFUL. But sadly I don't think so? Unless it's a third party we don't know about yet.
From my knowledge, Eurostar are not interested with licensing so we are more likely to get a Russian route then a Channel Tunnel route
Building your own layout and then be able to shrink down to drive a train on it would actually be quite unique!
And videos of screenshots of already announced content will excite social media? If you're talking about "will work with multiple consoles", then absolutely, there are plenty of third-party controller adapters. If you mean "will work with all trains", that's much more expensive and would require interchangeable parts. Perfectly possible for a train controller to work with consoles - there are dozens of designs made in Japan. For some reason the western train sim community likes to pretend Raildriver is the only game in town.
I think it's going to be a 'rush hour' style announcement, but for route extensions instead this time. in the same way we had SEHS extended, i think they'll release an extended version of 3 routes (a UK one, a German one and a US one) i'd like to think the UK one would be ECML extended up to York, with an appropriate German and US equivalent route extended. failing that i'd predict 3 brand new completely unexpected routes from each of those countries, for the UK maybe something like the entire 80-odd mile Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh Line. that's kind of along the lines of what i'm hoping for, but to be honest even if whatever is announced as the 'big reveal' tomorrow doesn't appeal to me, it's been a fun and enjoyable few weeks of announcements regardless!
uhuh… So somebody’s guessed it and he’s agreeing, or it’s “an expression of mild surprise or disappointment”… My money’s on a return to steam… Somerset & Dorset with a bit of luck …though it could be UE5 I guess, just to really kick things off before a big firesale
I don't know if it will be a route, unless it catered for the main 3 regions in the game (UK, Germany, US). Although as mentioned, unless it was a 'Rush hour's style update. But I'm doubtful of that. (I'd love to be proven wrong though. An extension to York would be amazing for ECML). From the very small snippets I have heard though it sounds like a single project. Does this mean it could be an upgrade to the base UE4 to a more updated version that has better core features, which a few others alluded to earlier? It's certainly been a very well kept secret as TSW content goes.
Three things. These are totally random guesses and I'm probably wrong: 1) Return of Steam - alone it is worthy a big reveal. 2) Remaking three popular routes (one for UK, US and Germany) and releasing them as a Rush Hour style package 3) Multiplayer - it pops up every now and then and is constantly asked about in the winter survey.
On the second point, you may have a point as it may as well be a rush hour which I'd really desire after a hadious since TSW2. I highly doubt this hype will be just for a loco to come out, but surely something larger for a route each for the three countries. Both coming in new locos and routes.
(1/2) Another country? (Please be Italy or Australian) Steam? Free DLC? (no chance) TSW 6? Fred (not Jay) gets his 12 miles free? (No seriously, an extension to a DLC, like ECML to Kings Cross/ York) Big sale? New sounds (platform, stops ect) Route merging? (Not “route hopping”) Signalling mode? (become a signaller) The game getting upgraded to the newest Unreal Engine 5 (5 for TSW 5….. or 6) Physical train controllers? (like rail driver) Route creation to console (over my dead body will they) Cross over between the fishings sims and TSW (imagine fishing at a pier and watching the trains go bye)
(2/2) Fortnite skin? (Jokes, Jokes) An advanced subscription (individual routes to gamepass) Continuation of the Rush Hour routes? A Museum modeled? (NRM or that one in London) Something to do with mobile? (companion app that tracks your progress) Mastery actually working? (Never) Port to Nintendo/ a handheld/ phone/ tablet ? (Could it actually be done) NPCs updated/ variation/ regionalised. 200th anniversary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway, with the return of steam with Rocket? Community voted on new routes? Free route (s)? (Eg the Christmas one) Dedicated remaster team? (for Clinchfield, NTP, ECW, or a remaster of loco dlcs) New Uk freight loco? (99,88 91?) Re-adding my bets here + more
Train spotting mode, allows you to take photos and videos and upload them to Doverail a social media site for TSW is my guess
