Hi Wondering if someone can fill in my lack of knowledge of neutral sections IRL and in TSW5. My limited knowledge says the following should happen. It could be wrong! I'm using the Azuma on Edinburgh Glasgow line. Leaving Haymerket, I see the "tram line" sign (not sure of the real name) - a cross efffectively - 2 vertical lines with the smaller horizontal lines. I see the one with white lines on black background (I believe that is warning of neutral section). Shortly after, I see the inverse sign meaning start of neutral section. Question 1 - what should you do in the neutral sections? Remove power? Anyway, I advance the Azuma until the pantograph is past the neutral section marker. If I stop in this area, I think I am in trouble i.e. no power. But that seems not the case (unless the diesel backup engine kicks in and I don't know/notice). I think the end of neural section is the same sign (black lettering on white background cross) with a diagnoal line through it. I suspect that is missing. Is my understanding of how this should work correct? If so, do any of the neutral sections (not sure where there are others?) worj correctly? Or does it depend on the loco working correectly in TSW?
White with black lines is the warning board, black with white lines is the neutral section start. Simply move the power controller to the off / middle position (I don’t think you strictly have to do this in the game but it’s what you do irl). You should observe the power light go out for a second or so and then come back on (I think to the left on the Azuma), once it’s back on reapply power. There’s no sign to indicate the end of a neutral section. They might be a bit broken in TSW though, because what isn’t.
The black board is the warning and the white board is the start. As far as I can tell they're not working on ScotRail Express although I've been playing along with the Haymarket one. They work very well on Preston to Carlisle and seem to be working in certain places and locos on WCML South.
A couple of the down slow from Milton Keynes and one on the up fast but it seems to depend on which loco you are in - has worked in the 710, 350, and a class 87 free roam run I did. They also work on the DC line.
