This tells me what DTG thinks of the community still hasn’t changed. This reveal wasn’t for anyone who cared about the game, it was for people who they wanted to rope in. They really wanted to drive the clicks on this one
Did they actually say that this is the big reveal? I'll wait till clocking off time before admitting defeat. Well done for the one who did guess,if this is the big reveal. And before anyone jumps down my throat; nothing against Thomas,,it was Ivor the engine when I was a kid.
I am loving this reaction. As a kid watching Thomas the Tank Engine helped get me into the Railways, the theme tune is a classic. It's good innocent fun and considering the sheer amount of butthurt from people, Yeah I'm buying this one day one. It's brilliant.
This is the other vector they are going with this DLC. Nostalgia. Younger audience and nostalgic players will oversee a low quality product more easily too. It’s perfect for the current DTG mindset
Lmao do you think they have a drinking game going on at DTG right now? Take a shot everytime someone posts, "betrayal", that sort of thing. I kinda hope so lol. I mean it's not surprising really that they kinda hate their fanbase a little bit, but i don't think i've seen a game developer troll this explicitly before. It's honestly impressive! More seriously, as i said in another thread they couldn't turn this deal down, but it really should be a separate title. Longer-term i don't know how wise it is to actively taunt your whales but what do i know, i'm just a cetacean!
Wrong target demographic. By this point, TSW's audience is largely made up of hardcore fans, the rest have been scared off by unmerited yearly releases and lacklustre DLC quality. Routes used to consistently get 80-100 reviews on Steam in the first couple weeks, Boston-Worcester (released 5 weeks ago) still hasn't cracked 2 dozen. Even the much-hyped WCML sits at 44 (Blackpool got 83 in the same period, both were developed by JT). That indicates an audience shrinkage of ~50% in just a year.
Maybe cause here is people from around the world. Not everyone hear about some local show for 1-5 years old train lovers. And naturally, many were disappointed that instead of a new route/loco, they received some kind of fictitious story with fictitious trains?
Congratulations to Stujoy. That was a hell of a guess! I don't mind it. I'm happy with other stuff that's coming to the game like Mildmay and Zwolle-Gronigen so if it had been something to peak my interest then that would just be a bonus. In theory it's a great license to get especially working with a powerhouse like Mattel. The Thomas and Friends days at heritage railways are always very popular. I'm just wondering about the business side of it in terms of marketing to kids if the free starter pack is ending on 9th January. So you are expecting parents to pay £24-£40 for standard edition at least + £20 for West Somerset + whatever the cost of the Thomas add-on is when the kid may just want to play with Thomas. I can see there is a sale on West Somerset railway where it's 70% off but we don't know if that will last in time for the Thomas add-on. Even if price isn't an issue it's a bit clunky to have to pay for and download three separate things for the kid to just play with Thomas. So I'm just wondering if there will be some kind of special Thomas edition of the game with it all bundled together to make it easier for kids and parents to buy it for them for say £30-35?
I reckon they will target the Japanese market with this quite heavily, they are strangely obsessed with Thomas. They’ve also got the Tadami line coming too.
Not everyone reviews games. But you can't judge the size of players only based on reviews. So if there's only 10 reviews, only 10 people play it?
You do realize that's how businesses survive right? The 70 and 80 year olds on here won't last forever.
Psst, Train Sim world IS nostalgia. How many routes across the countries are set ten, twenty thirty years ago.
The end of TSW as we know it. I’ve spent £2k on dlc over the years….I now have to consider whether I continue to support DTG anymore! I’m sorry DTG but I cannot your company seriously anymore!
Why......because one DLC is not to your liking? It's time to take stock of all the other stuff announced over the last 15 days
A classic Dovetail moment. If you have been on this franchise long enough you kind of start to expect it. Recipe is always the same: make addition/feature that nobody wants in name of making the "challenging" simulator more like a toy to address new audiences to make more money. For some reason we don't see these with other titles like MSFS.
To be honest, msfs has some addons that are fictional. Not made by the actual developers of course but there's still a couple dlc that use planes from video games for example
I know right! The route that is going to win the route world cup on these forums is set in the year I was born!
So your suggestion for people who know 5-10 words in English go look for shows for little kids on YouTube and watch all the seasons? I like your enthusiasm. But no.
Not sure what to feel about this. I always thought Train Sim World was about realism and simulation and this announcement sort of disassociates those values from the game. Whilst I can understand the appeal, having lurked in the forums, it seems people were expecting something that would elevate the simulation experience in the game. In my opinion, the main audience of this content would most likely be younger children or those who have an avid interest in Thomas the Tank Engine. If DTG want to do this sort of content, I personally believe it should under a completely new title - to avoid a conflict of interest. I find myself bewildered and mostly confused by this announcement.
Nothing to do with the 1 dlc ‘not to my liking’ its all to do with where the sim - if you can still call it that - is heading! If you want to appeal under 10’s fine but make a standalone game!
I don't see any conflict - you either buy or you don't, no one forces you. Another thing is that they played a cruel joke on us. A well-played joke on their part, I must say.
Oh, I had a good laugh. Yesterday I was reading the comments here and wondering what the players were expecting. I hope there will be many more surprises like this! Just keep up this standard DTG.
I mean they didn't really say anything misleading about the grand reveal. It is also worthy of being the big reveal in the sense it's a big license to get for the game and allows them to try out a different style of gameplay. I think everyone else just ran with it. As I said yesterday, it does act as an informal survey of what kind of things would get the existing community very excited for the future. This is clearly aimed at bringing in both a wider range of players as well as experimenting with a different style of gameplay. I would hope that some of the discussions in these threads gives some inspiration for the future though.
Obviously people know nothing about IP's, it is a pretty big deal to aquire rights to an IP as big as Thomas is in the world. This will get there name out there and probably bring in new players. I don't know whu you are all shocked since the majority of people on this forum are always saying DTG are about the money. This is a perfect example of this.
You made a point without knowing it. It´s all about the shareholders of focus group is what you are saying .... meanwhile real railfans are over in Train Sim Classic, Sim Rail and Zusi. This was the last straw for me today. I´m done supporting this game.
It's a game, a game that a company owns and they can go in whichever direction they want. As it's all setup already, it's much cheaper to add it in here than launch a standalone product. It's one reveal of 15+. It's really not that important.
It's certainly not my cup of tea, but I guess I don't really mind the announcement when we have content like Dune ships flying around in Microsoft Flight Simulator. However, I can't help, but feel like this is out of touch when they advertise a multi year partnership when we still haven't gotten suspension on TSW4 content. I would assume it's the Dovetail team creating this content, which means more resources that could go on to improve routes will be spent on this instead.
Please let this be a joke. Please let me wake up. Please don't let this be real. LET ME OUT LET ME OUT MAKE IT STOP
That was the big reveal! I haven't been on this forum long but it seems this reveal has had the biggest reaction to date!
I'd love to be in Dovetail Towers as a fly on the wall whilst all this has been going on. Imagine it is an interesting atmosphere, to say the least.
