I'm sure a smaller company like DTG is much easier to negotiate with in general compared to some of those giants, and also will have less red tape to go through re. Mattel's input and any requests for changes.

Also, no idea if this would be the case, but Mattel having final QA rights would be a good thing IMO.

How many DLCs have been developed with bugs on previous DLCs being there still? All of them, because DTG have rarely revisited DLCs and fixed bugs on them.

This DLC isn't any different. If it wasn't Thomas, something else would have come along anyway.

No I have to admit I was that kid as well. But it was anything green had to be off my plate.

Nowadays its tequila. I get a hint of a smell or taste of it and I'm gagging.

As has already been mentioned by many, the Isle of Sodor itself would have been a much more welcome proposition, especially with a view to adding future characters. Using WSR (25 mph drudgery) seems like a bit of a cop out and will inevitably lead to more “Thomas visits…” DLCs, such as Thomas visits West Cornwall, or Thomas goes to Germany. Be careful we don’t end up with more versions of Thomas than we have class 66. So please Dovetail if you’re really going to do this, give Thomas and friends a home and focus on recreating the Isle of Sodor in “Goblin” level of detail, and do some justice to the franchise.

I don’t care if we do get more Thomas Visits type DLCs. While I agree Sodor is a better proposition as they could actually make the real stories as scenarios. These Thomas packs are going to be add ons that I will never see as I certainly won’t buy them. They’re not aimed at me (except maybe the nostalgia element)

On another point, I don’t think it’s going to take much development time away from DTG. The models are likely to be provided by Mattel, and given what we’ve seen recently the rest is likely to be outsourced. It may slow down 3rd party releases slightly, but the complaint above it was referring to fixes.

With all of this, if Thomas is a success it will bring in money and will likely mean more staff. If it doesn’t bring in money, it will go away and we’ll all still be complaining about bug fixes because nothing will have changed.

Funny that Sodor and Thomas are available for free in TSC. With keyboard controlled eye movement and facial expressions.

So, I wonder how many those complaining about Thomas in TSW also play TSC where the same thing exists?

I don't know, best to ask them directly. I haven't complained and speculated beforehand, I tried to explain the mass disappointment (which happened also outside these forums). I have checked the route and tested Thomas, but not playing it if that's what you're assuming. Just saying it's well done and free for those interested.

Naaah. It should have been in the original Enough Is Enough thread which has stalled. So will this one. People forget and move on. How many pages on WCMLS and the Pendolino, now nobody talks about (or plays?) that anymore. It's all very quickly forgotten. Next DLC please ;)

For those interested in the TS Sodor route:
    https://glennockcreations.jimdosite.com/island-of-sodor/

Sadly the route will never be completed, but what is there is brilliantly done. If I wasn't working on my own route I'd probably ask them if I could help out with the Sodor project.

Unfortunately I don't know where the Thomas locomotives are from.

If it wasn't for Just Trains the uninstall button would have got pressed. For the record I don't hate Thomas nor too bothered that it's the direction of attention at the moment. I just see TSW going in a direction of which i have no interest.

Trainz console edition is bringing US steam locomotive a C&O Kanawah ..TSW getting little talking toy kiddie steam engine Thomas and friend s guess they been putting their efforts lately to score that cash cow..Nothing against Thomas itself but in a train sim i expect BIG REAL TRAINS and Routes that are well done ..not story book fairytale kiddie trains ,DTG should have put this to a seperate kids game ..not TSW

They say adding Thomas &Friend s is nostalgic and got lots of kids into trains..but most of the TSW base seems not to want old nostalgic real trains and routes DTG canned steam after they hyped the Flying Scottsman for TSW 3 ..when i was a kid Thomas wasnt there to get me into trains ..It was seeing REAL trains those big slow boring US freight trains that ppl complain about in TSW ..also model train sets that look like the real trains ..the steam engines i saw first were East Broad Top and Strasburg RR in Pennsylvania on family trips .

Well if one was cynical it could be observed that Thomas’s projected level of simulation complexity is actually well aligned with the current state of TSW steam locomotive physics. In other words pretty simplistic. We can live in hope that perhaps one day DTG will hire someone who knows steam well enough to create an accurate representation in Simugraph.

TSW is Train Sim World. This would mean all things associated with train simulation including Virtual Reality, Roblox, Conductor Mode and many more including the now revealed Thomas the Tank Engine. I would expect to see other uses of the Unreal Engine that we have not thought about. Kudos to DTG to be able to leverage this product to so many different angles on train simulation.

I still think its unbelievable they are going this way. As a long year player and member of this forum, im feeling absolutely fooled. No, not every DLC has to meet my personal expectations, but DTG clearly has turned on their position what TSW is in their minds. Obviously, they must have such a large customer base of average interested people. Not the hard core train enthusiast, and especially not the members in this forum are representing this customer base anymore. They maybe use this forum for cheap beta testing, but thats it. There is a constantly ask for Steam physics to be finally fixed for years, and we get Thomas. They must be in tears laughing at us.

Haven't touched TSW in a while and was coming back the other day to drive some, had a blast with WCMLoS and then tried DTG routes, immediately facing outstanding problems and bugs that turned me off again. WHAT A REFINDED EXPERIENCE. Eventually sorting out all of the fundamental problems this GAME has ? No ! Better off securing Money in a outstanding business deal for a generic customer base ( parents will pull off if they will face the current price politics from DTG anyway ).

They cannot dance on two weddings, they simply wont cover up making childs content while still developing a authentic Simulation further, if they failed to do so in the first place. TSW feels such unstable and cheap most of the time.

Not even feeling tempted by the free route they are now offering on PS (although its a great move towards a mangled community) because im mot expecting anything special or especially something that pulls me in after i played it one time... Not because its American freight but because their content is lackluster and after a short time playing routes you have seen all the bugs and problems and can move on.

If this sells (and initially i assume it will) its clear which direction they will follow. We will never see a proper Steam engine in TSW, we will never ever see the variety of TSC in TSW.

I know for some its just that one odd DLC, but it should tell you which interests are really high up on DTGs table and certainly its not Railway enthusiasm.

Anyway, its Christmas time and i hope everyone has a good time ! Not want to be in anger because a game i will probably abandon in near future anyway.

  37. TSW2020 Steam Description:
Train Sim World is an immersive first-person simulator perfect for everyone, with complete in-cab interactivity, accurate detail on locos, real-world routes and hours of gameplay. Take to the rails with the brand-new Train Sim World 2020 Edition and find everything you need to master new skills.

Dovetail, as others pointed out after your comment, have changed their stance on this fact. I think Dovetail is trying to make Train Sim World more of a game than a simulator. For example, since TSW3, the UI and Logo was made a lot more, flat with several "quick" modes.

It’s always been more of a game than a simulator. It has points, trophies, mastery and collectibles. I doubt that even with the expert 101, it’s even close to driving a real train. It’s a game I enjoy playing to escape from real life. Not something I should get upset over when they release one loco dlc that I don’t like, but others might.

If I remember correctly, there's some Thomas and friends locomotives on the dlc pages on tsc.or the store as most will call it.
I remember buying them for the kids.

It is one add-on! The game/sim hasn't changed, the other routes still work. There is plenty of "serious" DLC in the pipeline and there will be plenty after that.

What is wrong with them opening up their player base? In the long term it is likely to help sustain the viability of TSW and allow DTG to put more resources into improving the sim.

If DTG start to just produce Thomas themed add-ons I will be the first to complain but I am certain they won't and even if they did there are third parties.

I understand that announcement was disappointing, I thought it was too but I was half expecting it would be. However the reaction has been the biggest over the top reaction I have ever seen on here, it is as though, TSW Armageddon is about to occur!

So they have changed their stance on creating what they see as a realistic simulator because they have announced one child friendly themed add-on. They didn't change their stance after holiday express or whatever it was called.

I think I need to go for a lie down.

How many fictional routes have there been for TSW and how many fictional routes are there on the roadmap? I didn't omit your comments, this is one add-on, there is absolutely nothing to suggest they are going to go down the road of fictional routes in the future!

Will any of the Roblox routes be fictional? Probably. What does any of this even matter. DLCs are made available. Everyone has free choice whether to purchase or not. Will DTG provide real life DLCs at the expectations of some of its user base. Probably not. DTG are trying their best to provide a service and product with the limited resources they have. We should all be happy that this product is available. We should roll back our high expectations recognizing that DTG is attempting to provide product for several user bases. We should be thankful for everything that they provide.
    Respectfully

If one fictional DLC, which you do not need to purchase, upsets you, you've got bigger problems.

  50. There is the holiday express route, which is FICTIONAL and AFAIK it wasn't very well received. Maybe you should do some more research before you make statements like "tHiS iS oNe AdD-oN" and if this Thomas add-on sells well amongst the kids that it is targetting then we will almost certainly have more fictional routes like it in the future.

EDIT: There is also the numerous layers that are not realistic in the slightest so that could be argued to be fictional. The Class 230/D-Stock and 1972 Stock were never used on the Circle, Hammersmith and City, and Central Line, for example.
