I am planning to buy the Preston - Carlisle route. Class 87’s are not really an interest to me. But I enjoy 47’s.

is there full timetabled runs for the 47 from Preston to Carlisle like the 87. ?

I think both passenger and freight yes. Just not as frequent as the 87 services.

Not many, mind. There is one passenger run in the 47 from preston to carlisle.

Also if you're on ps4, it's only the 87 in the timetable.

You have the Railtour as well, not sure if the 47 is the default loco for it but it is an option.

You know how everybody is sick to death of class 66s right now?

Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, everybody was sick to death of class 47s because they were all you ever saw.

You would have liked it back then. :D

Yes it’s strange. Waiting for a train and it came in with a 47/4 on the front, usually considered a “dud”. Even a Peak was preferable. But now I would much rather have a 47 hauling a rake of Mark 2 coaches than some Hitachi or similar aberration.

Part one of the Stone Scratcher railtour in the Class 47 is a cracking drive without giving any spoilers away.

The 87 might surprise you. I was indifferent about it but it quickly became a favourite to drive. It’s a great route btw, enjoy

Have given the 87 ago. And after watching many videos of it being ran on YouTube I had no issues with it. Just getting used to the tap power. But still isn’t my favourite loco.

    enjoyed the 47.

but finding also the 101 more easier to drive. Seems more responsive… then other versions and DLC’s.

I'm sick to death of seeing 47s on the back of tours

That's normal... It probably never will be.

If you never experienced the loco in real-life, there is no point trying to force yourself to like it.

I remember when the 87s were being replaced by the 390s and had a first class journey from Nuneaton to Euston. I think it was 17.24 which was still 87 timetabled. It was a hell of a run with the driver determined to give the 87 a good send off. We went storming into Euston with the driver applying brakes as we entered the platform. Incredible.

I wish I was around when the WCML was still loco hauled.. I was born a few years after the 390s were introduced
