Bad place to ask. Usually people tell it's beyond boring. What happened, what triggered the question?
So i was leaving comments on youtube and they keep leaving hate comments on train simulator, one german dude said that train simulators are boring, which isn't boring
synth Not everyone will enjoy what you and I like. The internet makes some people be ruder than in real life. Don't let it bother you. As long as you're not harming yourself or others, keep on enjoying what you like and don't worry what others think.
IronBladder gave the perfect answer. Anyhow, I guess you heard about popular WoW. In 2008 some friend asked me to show what it was. So I help them to create a trial character, they log in, kill a single level 1, say it's a LOVE game and uninstall. Maybe by knowing what he likes, I could have steered for a more positive experience, but still. Judging by cab ride views on YouTube, it's a fairly niche market. However, in Scandinavia at least the idea of Slow TV is very much welcome. Translate this, it has more extreme examples: https://index.hu/tudomany/til/2024/12/26/slow-tv-kandallo-tv-akvarium/
Why do people hate dogs? Why do people hate boybands? Why do people hate anime? Why do people hate football? People's tastes are different, simply put
I think it's probably simulators in general - no niche seems to small to generate one these days. Beyond the obvious big two of planes and trains, there are trucks, farms, goats, boats and countless more.
Some people are extroverts and like to do things which involve others (watching sport, parties etc) others are introvert and enjoy the mental challenge of simulation. Each to their own. Not everyone will enjoy what you do. Respectfully
People who find train simulators boring just don't enjoy it and that's that. I like most games but have never got on with fighting games that require combos, as an example (well, except for Remember Me). I have a friend who is just as into trains as I am but just isn't interested in House Flipper, which is a game I love. Him and I both like Peggle, but my other friend doesn't get it.
I often get asked the question "Why do you like playing simulator games?" Well, the answer is, because I do. Mainly train sims because I like trains and being around them. Having them on simulators means I can drive them because in reality it's not something I could do (except I did drive a class 37 light loco as part of a driving experience). Other sims such as lawnmowing sim, construction sim, firefighter sim etc I enjoy because they are something I would never be able to do in real life so I can pretend instead. I actually find simulator games calming and relaxing. Simulation games aren't everyone's cup of tea, even if they have an interest in the area the sim is depicting.
I remember someone arguing here against long routes/scenarios because of the boredness ("5 hours of greens" about London - Glasgow). In fact, even the new timetable mode in TSW can not be exempted of this criticism at some point. Introducing some randomness, such as IA delays, track works, etc, sounds to me as a good direction in this regard for future developments of the sim.
Single routes rarely cover varying scenery, unless quite long or otherwise lucky. Donner Pass, Canadian Mountain Passes, Soldier Summit offer varying scenery while traversing its sections. Temperate to spruce to rocks and grasslands, straight flats to snaking climbs. YouTube cab rides are random, too. Some offer vistas, mountains, lakes, rock walls, fjords, snow storms, others are either basic (moving in a tunnel of regular vegetation) or the camera settings are washing it out too much. Chicago (CTA) videos offer some enjoyable cityscapes, namely The Loop. So it depends on the first few experiences. ps.: Do the forums remove line breaks for everyone for a while now, or is it browser specific? Quite annoying.
I really enjoy playing train simulator s currently TSC TSW Trainz 19 and 22..they all have their good and bad points,But i love at least i can be a virtual engineer and operate the different trains in other countries steam diesel and electric, freight and passenger. I prefer US Canadian content since i am in US, but now i enjoy UK germany content as well...due to a disability i could not work for the railroad and playing train sims is as close as i can get..
People say that I am too old to play fighting games, but it's been one of my favourite gaming genres for decades, so I'm not going to stop anytime soon... Besides, flooring younger challengers online is fun. My most played video games these days are TSW5, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Guilty Gear Strive and Euro Truck Simulator 2. Don't worry about what other people think and just play whatever you enjoy.
Same with me. I started playing games on a ZX Spectrum and have carried on playing games ever since. I too have played games like house flipper,XCOM2, SnowRunner etc I also play games like Metro Exodus, Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon Forbidden West. I am particularly looking forward to the release of The Last of Us part 2 on Steam for the PC. Ok my reactions are not as fast as they used to, so I tend to play on the next level down from normal difficulty. But who cares so long as I enjoy it. Keith
