Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition! This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition. Rules: TSC only shots allowed. Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes. You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish. 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory. Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves). The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge). The Judge of the week's decision is final. We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries will close at 9PM GMT on Friday, January 10th 2025 and will be judged by me - Andras In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 17:00 on Sunday 12th January, 2025 a new thread will be created using the results of this weeks poll. The theme for this week is: Your Newest Feel free to interpret the theme however you wish. I originally thought about Your Most Modern, but that may be a little restrictive to offer multiple shots, even if creative. This one has quite a bit of flexibility: it can be modern stuff in real life, but also your newest purchase, your freshest release, or... lawyer up... your newest screenshot. So, glorified freestyle. However, I know some people love steam so I hope for some of those. Good luck to all, but most importantly, remember to have fun.
My latest Freeware download is the wonderful Leek & Manifold Valley Light Railway, seen here with the Lister Auto Truck on a Milk run to Thor's Cave.
And my latest Caledonia Works kettle, the gorgeous LMS Princess Royal, seen here hauling a Northern bound service up the West Coast Mainline towards Oxenholme, bathed in the beautiful evening sunlight.

One of my newest endeavours has been getting to grips with much more complex traction to what I'm used to. One such case was Smokebox Simulation's AT&N Consolidation Class 280-157 Loco Add-On released back in 2013 and I was lucky enough to have a somewhat successful journey over the Pennsylvania Railroad Main Line (now the Pittsburgh Line) with it. Here Alabama, Tennessee and Northern Railroad Class 280-157 '201' is seen traveling west after having departed from Altoona, Pennsylvania in the United States of America with a train of 8 loaded coal hoppers and a caboose coupled to the rear to be dropped off in Johnstown due to an unexpected surge in power consumption around the region requiring the coal for local power production. Something new that I have been trying with a few of my screenshots is taking them from angles that are a lot different to my usual style. Here CrossCountry Class 221 '221115' forming a consist of 5 coaches arrives southwards into Heaton Depot, England in the United Kingdom just north of Newcastle-upon-Tyne Central during the late evening operating as empty service 5Z34 traveling over the East Coast Main Line arriving into the previously mentioned depot for urgently required maintenance. The service was meant to be heading to Plymouth however shortly after departing from Edinburgh Waverley, Scotland the train had multiple mechanical faults requiring all passengers to get off at Berwick-upon-Tweed where afterwards the train was parked up nearby in the sidings at Tweedmouth. A few hours later it was determined the train could safely limp south to Heaton Depot but limited to only a 50% power application of the throttle at most along the journey. The newest trip I've recently undertaken in the game is with Deutsche Bahn Class 429s '429619' and '429124' coupled with '429115' and '429606' of the Stadler FLIRT 3 model form a 10 coach westbound RE2 service headed west for Bingen (Rhein) Hbf during a stormy Autumn afternoon in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany (Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland) traversing the West Rhine Railway (Linke Rheinstrecke). Motive Power: Stadler FLIRT 3 Route: Frankfurt - Koblenz Scenario: 05. Thank you for the entries! A nice range of content was presented. 3rd place for me was Craigie-C. Fun stuff on offer, the red-in-green almost tailored for me This view with the hill and fort is a slight favorite: 2nd place to Blazin. Happy to see experiments! This capture is fitting the season very well, and of course technically: 1st place to mfeets. I enjoyed the open views in both pictures, something that I struggle with recently. Is this an SD40 reskin, or the old very clean model that seems to be lost with time? Might be a different model, too. Onwards to week two. Highball!
Thank you very much for 2nd place and congratulations to the other winners. In regards to the “very clean” SD40-2 model would that be the one that is seen in the thumbnail of the Cajon Pass SD40-2 unweathered variant, where it looks nowhere near as clean as the actual “unweathered” locomotive that you drive? I’ve always thought it was very strange, and the unweathered variant seems to have simply just been the weathered variant but with a lighter tone instead of actually being clean or new-ish looking that the thumbnail would suggest.
Thanks for the win! I'll get the next thread up in a few hours. The SD40-2 isn't a reskin, it's an entirely new model, https://store.searchlight-simulations.com/products/jrsd40-2-up-bundle. It's absolutely great, and along with the price point (that being lower than the normal shovelware locos the NA scene gets), its one of the few locomotives I 100% recommend.
New thread is up, theme being "Steam's Last Stand" https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/unofficial-screenshot-competition-week-2.88455/
