See title. Is there a way to disable the blended braking on the NJT ALP and cab car? I've found the automatic blended braking to be pretty annoying: it applies very late and very hard (and not apparently in proportion to the braking command) such that smooth braking ranges from tough to nearly-impossible. Can I disable it? Anyone know if this is IRL behavior as well?
That's one of my favourite routes I'm pretty sure you can't disable it braking is quite difficult to master I'm not 100% on how it works properly there is no information about these trains and cab cars on tsw.
The problem isn’t blended braking. In blended braking, the dynamic brake cuts in proportional to what air alone would be doing while backing off the air brake. If you could remove the dynamic, the air brake would be doing the exact same thing, you’d just (in real life) be wearing out your brake shoes faster. The reason NJT braking is difficult is that it’s manually lapped. You have to go by lbs of brake reduction and then use lap. Also, you should use brake hold as you get to lower speeds because manually lapped brakes can’t partially release. In order to reduce the brake application once applied you have to fully release, wait for that, then reapply. Brake hold gets around this by essentially using workarounds to allow for partial release. I don’t remember exactly how it works but there’s an NJT braking tutorial that fully explains it. I recommend watching that. Your issue is probably that you’re trying to partially release the brakes but can’t do it because of manual lapping
I would bail the independent brakes while setting air, that way the dynamics won't kick in. I'm not a fan of the delay either and many times end up stopping too hard or crawling to a stop. Always wondered why NJT decided to go with manual lapping brakes on their equipment. Real-life engineers at NJT who can smoothly bring these trains to a stop are definitely skilled.
By bailing off the locomotive brake during or after making an automatic brake application (Can’t be done in the cab car).
You are correct in fact I have a video of how it's done they are actually from the same station Annandale I-78 East exit 16 12:40 NY Penn to Annandale 20:40 Ny Penn to Annandale the latter one is a double decker train last two cars are open for the stop.
Yes you can, actually. If you go to hold, and let the brake pipe recharge, then you can alternate between hold and release.
