Good afternoon everyone! New year, new batch of TSW suggestions from me! Today I'm definitely going out of my comfort zone, creating an "open" proposal: one route and 4 possible different layouts to make it! You'll choose which one! But now let's get back to us... Today I want to propose you the Chiltern Railways (I know...). This Network runs through the Greater London urban area, as well as 3 different South-East counties: Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire (short stretch) and Oxfordshire. Our route/s starts from the London terminal in Marylebone, crossing the West Hampstead common area and reaching Neasden Junction (Wembley). Here, the path splits into two: Towards Aylesbury and Ruislip (Northolt Jn.). First case the route will end there (Parkway Terminal), while in the second, it will continue towards North-East (Main Line). Up to Bicester: here it will split towards Oxford or Banbury. All this crossing the northwestern London urban area and surrounding towns/countryside. Reaching mid-point between the capital and Birmingham! Which one will you choose? These are my Chiltern Railways: Marylebone to Oxford, Banbury or Aylesbury! Since I live a few thousand km from this route, there may be some inaccuracies!
Really good detailed suggestion, and with the time you put in to this. I mean I am surprised this isn't your home route with the detail in these suggestions. I really hope one of these options are made and released. I think if they do make Chiltern Mainline it will be TSW6 cover route and will be London to Banbury with maybe the Oxford branch at a push (could maybe come later like SEHS.) All in all though great suggestions and I hope at least one of them succeeds!
I think which one to go for depends on whether DTG or a 3rd party can do the Met Line and S stock. Having commuted on the Aylesbury branch a lot of what would make the services interesting from a driving perspective is how the dispatching of the Chiltern services is fitted in with the fast Met services to Amersham/Chesham in particular. In fact given currently DTG has the TfL license but the status of Chiltern is uncertain there's a case for doing the Met Line but using unbranded Class 166s to represent the Chiltern services on the section between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Amersham. If they can get the Chiltern license but don't want to do the Met Line I would say do one of the longer distance routes suggested with the correct Chiltern rolling stock to Banbury and/or Oxford. At Oxford the GWR and Cross-country services could be represented using HSTs if they don't want to or can't use the current rolling stock for these services (until recently GWR did also use Class 166s for some services to Oxford).
Yeah but they did it on the wcml with the overground and could do cross-country scenarios rolling start and if you own gwe you can drive the Didcot to Oxford part. Edit:10:56am - Also isnt there a freight depot at Didcot
lots of rolling stock variety, nice length, looks like there would be lots to do and to keep you on your toes with action... definitely approved
watching this bit by bit and it's amazing... slow, fast, lots of changes, interesting and often changing scenery, nice rolling stock... yeah, I would definitely buy this
Yes, there's a DB Cargo yard (mostly) there. However, I would see such a route as being in its own right. Let's say Paddington to Banbury via Didcot and Oxford. With the "fake" 165/1 (from GWE remaster) and maybe an HST... I'm doubtful about its feasibility (licence) ! razmatus#2517 Yes, this is a perfect UK route for this game! I totally agree with your thoughts! PS. Personally, if I watched those videos in full (especially cabcars), I'd end up falling asleep...
it is one of those cases that derail (pun intended) my old misconception about diesel trains/locos being super sluggish and slow and stuff like that... I mean, yeah, they cant really compete with well fleshed out electric machines, but they are still strong and decent... and I am finding myself playing a lot of UK and US diesel content... there is sth nice and calm in steady but firm acceleration and chugging along
Would love to see any form of this route, as I have often travelled on it. It would be great to see a class 68 in the game as well, and this route seems to have lots of variety and plenty of AI services to keep things interesting and busy. It would be great to see Oxford in the game as another station on the GWR. You’ve put a lot of detail into the suggestion so I hope it gets noticed
MAIN INTEGRATION (01/06/2025) Regarding potential future DLCs/expansions, two concrete opportunities: 1) Underground S Stock (Future DLC). Both S7 and S8 Stock. 2) Chinnor & Princes Risborough Preserved Railway (Future expansion). Small preserved railway, 4 miles (6.4km) long, Princes Risborough-Chinnor. Single track, standard gauge (unelectrified). 25mph (40km/h) max speed. Left: Chinnor operating area. Right: Princes Risborough Boundary. Calls : - Chinnor - Wainhill Crossing (currently not in use) - Princes Risborough Features: - Regular heritage services, April-August (weekends mainly). - Two Steam/Diesel Galas (March & September). Luckily, most of the stock we need already ingame: - BR Class 08 General-purpose, diesel-electric shunter. BR Green and NSE. - BR Class 31 and BR Class 37 Mainline diesel-electric locos. BR Engineering and BR Metals Sector. - BR Class 121 "Bubble Car" Diesel-mechanical railcar. BR Maroon and BR Green. - BR Mk1 Standard passenger coach. TSO, SK/BSK, BG & RMB. - Vintage freight wagons (12T boxcar etc...). Cabview Chinnor-Princes Risborough, BR Class 121 "Bubble Car". Hope this was helpful! Wish you a good week !
Let me see one segment of your route is actually the just trains simulator classic chiltern main line. The ideal solution here is actually having it's maker just trains remake it for trains sim world
JTs Chiltern Line DLC in TSC is pretty poor aside from the Metropolitan Line. I'm sure they'd do a far better job in TSW but it's a real shame that they never updated it and their Great Western Mainline to the standards shown in their later TSC releases.
Yeah, that JT creation doesn't seem to do justice to their skills! I'll start by saying I've never played it... But it seems to be stuck in the early days of TSC! Back on topic, I'd say I wouldn't mind at all if JT will build this ! But I think DTG is more likely (as core route of a new iteration?).
I think that the Chiltern route would be incredible. They could always start by creating the Metropolitan Line or vice versa and then build the other route. This would be a great example of a route that is worth a first time purchase so long as it is set in the modern day
You are spot on if JT remade both for TSW 5 expect it to be like Carlisle Citadel to Preston/Ormskirk route hopping main line
INTEGRATION/UPDATE (09/27/2025). Morning everyone! Just updating my suggestion to current time, given some substantial and recent updates at Chiltern/Arriva UK headquarters! CAF Mk5 sets are joining Chiltern Railways family! Starting from this month, older Mk3A sets are being replaced by the "new" MK5As, alongside usual Class 68s as traction power source! Here are some early pics of their new look! Brilliant choice, Imo! After TPE nightmare experience, Beacon Rail and Arriva UK have purchased all 13 sets. In order to deploy them more extensively in their timetable. This will mean more services will be covered by this type of convoys on Chiltern Mainline (alongside usual 168s)! First sets in action! Hope this was helpful! Have a great weekend everyone !
I would go for option D, but set it in the late 80s with the New North Mainline to Paddington included. Maybe the Greenford branch could also be thrown in for additional replayability. Prior to the resignalling in the early 90s, both lines out of Marylebone had a fascinating mixture of GCR/GWR & LNER semaphore signals as part of it's GW&GC joint railway legacy. Marylebone itself had the distinction of being the last London terminus to have semaphore signals, kind of ironic since the GCR was an early adopter of multiple aspect signals. Princes Risborough/ Aylesbury would be good end points in this case, as the mainlines beyond were heavily rationalised, and many of the local stoppers terminated there (all in the case of Aylesbury). The class 115 would be a great second 1st gen DMU to include as it could also act as a stand in on other routes for many other similar DMUs. In fact, 1 car is used on the WSR as part of a hybrid 117/115 set. Class 47s in NSE could be included with the base route, but a class 50 expansion pack would be a perfect follow up, and again has potential to be used on many other routes. Video 125 has a cab ride video called ' Chiltern Take Two' which documents this route during the proposed period, and it's honestly still one of my favourite releases from video 125.
Met or Chiltern? I'm curious about a driver's perspective! GWRKingClass Even NSE era would be interesting !
