Yes I agree it is one of the two obvious choice left that DTG has, the other being the BR 605, which we could have from München or Hamburg.
ngl im kinda annoyed that dtg didnt add the br120 for this route which would actually add a little bit more sense in this route since br120s did run over the line in 2014 for ic services
The fact that DTG estimate enough people will buy it at this price to recoup the costs of production, and maybe make a profit.
If the route had been set today, there'd be an obvious train to include, the SUWEX 1429. I feel like that would have been a good choice, as that unit type appears elsewhere (Switzerland, Netherlands, HRR, Munich - Augsburg) so could have been reused.
Well, let's say, it's a route where you'll go from a more industrial area (BASF mostly) to a countryside area (and the Rhine is still somewhat impressive...). The route itself is quite bumpy (or mountainous), starting at the Rhine at somewhat 90 m ü. NN., going up to Schifferstadt (103m ü. NN.), Neustadt (Weinstr.) 142 m ü.NN, Heiligenberg-Tunnel 278 m ü. NN and finally Kaiserslautern (250 m üNN). So, well, the route is ascending somewhat around 200 m with inclines (or declines) up to 2,5 %. At least, as it was back then one of the major critiques for Hamburg-Lübeck 'too flat', that won't be a problem here, and trying out your skills in driving with somehow a cross-section variety of locos (even though already in game) might be interesting... it's a quite busy route...with at least five different trains to steer...'variety'. A comeback for the BR 406 that mostly is only on SKA. Actually, maybe a comeback of the TGV (not sure about, as the only one we got in game is not able to drive with international multi-current). So, well, it doesn't seems that boring or unattractive to me.
I have looked at it on google earth and it does indeed look interesting and looks like it will have some lovely scenery. I agree there is a variety of loco's. It just seems to be a route which is the middle part of a route and therefore will just have traffic passing through. I will see what I think after the stream. I do like the variety of stock on there even if it is reused, the DB111 is a favourite of mine.
Maybe one for a sale, then. If Mittenwald hadn't been coming out I might have been more tempted but that and the price plus no pre order discount (that we know of...).
I also agree that no new trains isn't a particular problem for me either - as long as the route itself is interesting, busy with long-term variety and replayability etc - but it's always enjoyable, in my opinion, to have newer routes regardless; plus, it's a bonus to have some of the best and existing rolling stock like the 111 and 628 etc. Additionally, even though the 425 has been in TSW for years now, it's nice to finally see it again. If memory serves correctly, the longest services for the 425 in TSW are currently from Munich-Augsburg I think (correct me if I'm wrong), which is now so outdated anyway. Most other existing 425 services are quite short with HRR and BRO etc.
