    Hello,

I'm really happy to announce a project i am very excited about: Duisburg-Oberhausen!

"But Matin_TSP, this route is only like 5 kilometers? Why do you do this?", you might ask.
Good question. So let's start from the beginning:

We still don't have a lot of Tutorials for the TSW Editor. Many people would love to build their favourite route, but the lack of documentation and having no experience with Unreal Engine can be a big hurdle. Also for me. So I wanted to change that. And so the idea was born to build a small route, trying to make as many tutorials as possible, covering everything from implementing LIDAR data to releasing the route.

But as I don't know anything about all of that, my good friend nourthelokdriver instead did all the work, recording the tutorials, doing the voiceover etc. And as I have a pretty big youtube channel by now, I will use this as platform to reach as many people as possible.

The tutorials will be in german. But the UE interface is still english. Also you can use the auto translation mode of youtube cc to translate it into your desired language. And i will insert chapter names in english. So even those who don't speak german will somehow benefit from it.

Our plan is to fully build the route and at the end also release it [also poving that releasing a route is indeed possible contrary to what has been said about the editor in other forums], trying to show you every step of it. Everything you'll see here is done on the public editor. Not the inhouse DTG editor nor the unofficial editor.

We will not do anything vehicle related. So no Simugraph stuff. Just everything route related.

Whenever there is a new video published, i'll update to 2nd post in this thread and also do a new post as well.

Of course we're happy to hear your feedback. What's good? What could be better? What should be covered as well?

And now one last thing: We have the very high hopes that the TSW freeware community will change with that video series. That it will grow. People will feel the confidence to work with the editor. And maybe in a year from now we'll have a few freeware routes all inspired by this video series. If you actually are inspired by this, let us know!

P.S.: Check your cookies setting, if you can't see any videos in this thread.

    0. Downloding and preparing all the terrain data for the editor!

    1. LIDAR, KML, SRTM: What is it and how do we get it into the editor? At the end we'll have a beautiful high res landscape!

    3. Track Laying Basics

    4. Advanced Track Laying

So the first tutorial is now online.

We cover how to implement LIDAR, KML and SRTM into the Editor, so you can generate a Landscape:

This looks like it will be a great tutorial series! I see the first episode's out, though I haven't had time to watch it yet. I should probably watch the first few episodes as a refresher (I might even pick up a trick or two that I missed! :) )

    News:

Tutorial 2 is now available on youtube.
In this episode, nourthelokdriver tells you everything you need to know to get started with landscape material!

And to make it more accesible to my non-german people, i've added chapters in english, so it's easier to follow what's going on.

There is no link to the tutorials in this thread. If I click on "nourthelokdriver", I'm taken to his member page.

The Youtube tutorial videos are literally embedded in the second post of this thread, by Matin_TSP . If you don't see the post or the videos, then perhaps you have disabled external content from appearing? Check your cookie settings.

Check this post. Additionally, you can find every tutorial on TrainSimPlay's YouTube channel, in case embedded videos still don't shown up.

Edit: Here is the dedicated playlist of the tutorials.

I thought that ad blockers cause YouTube videos to be blocked but after deleting and creating cookies on this website, I got the videos.

Tutorial 0 - why 0? Because this should actually have been the first tutorial!

In this video, my good friend RobertSchulz joins this tutorial series to demonstrate how you actually download LIDAR data and what you have to do to prepare the data for the Editor.

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation!
One (slightly unrelated) question: how did you bring up the game menu at 7:34? I haven't found a way to make the ESC-key not exit PIE. Thank you!

Hello, I have a problem with the command “createTrackTilesfromKML” as soon as I execute it with new tiles, it doesn't work, it generates but the tracks float in the air and I can't snap them to the world. Can anyone help me?

If that happens to me, I just right-click the tile and click something called "stitch...". After that, the collision should be fixed. :)

(There might be other ways to fix that!)

This is usually the landscape collision, in the landscape tool, right click the terrain and choose "Regenerate Landscape Collision Components"

6: Test Timetable; Fixing Tracks and Junctions

So in this tutorial/dev diary we go through our tracks and see how we can fix wonky tracks. You'll also see how doing a test timetable and driving on the tracks can help a lot with finding issues.
Next time we'll take a look at how to do portals and then we'll jump to signaling! stay tuned!
