This is something that is starting to bug me and that is with TSW games / versions now looking like a yearly thing the question is how long should an edition be supported for? The sudden dropping of support for TSW4 was wrong in my opinion especially when you have not fixed a scenario that has a trophy / achievement attached to it. In effect TSW needs standards my feeling is that too much of a rush is made to drop older ones when the new version is out. As someone who completed TSW4 PS5 (all trophies) then TSW5 (all existing ones) then went back to TSW4 PS4 version to mop up trophies to find the "international rescue" scenario from a early TSW4 route was broken red light issue it made me think. I also said that new TSW games should drop legacy trophies many times over the last year or so and I am glad DTG did do that thanks to several older trophies not working on newer games plus time doing everything again. Any way here is what I think as a min standard TSW games should be left in when they launch a new title The following should work (for the older TSW title) * All Tutorials, * All scenarios, *All trophies / achievements * All collectables I suggest when a new TSW launches lets say TSW6 this year then TSW5 should then have at least 6 months of general tidying up to make sure the things I mentioned above work. Its too much to expect all services to be glitch free so I understand that. Personally I think as an act of good faith they should fix international rescue scenario on TSW4. Obviously limits to what you can do but fixing the few issues can be seen as good will to customers many have stopped buying it because of the issues. I worry a shift to yearly TSW could lead to more glitches as content launched at the end of the titles life is not properly patched. remember TSW2 with spirit of steam, on PS4 and Xbox One it missed out a collectable that was only added in TSW3 (ironically PS5 and Xbox Series had the collectables in TSW2) I do like playing TSW and it is getting much closer to what it was said it was going to be. Its getting better each version with new features and such but we want TSW to be the best it can be. I always feel like I am moaning when I type these sort of things out. Its frustrating things that should work sometimes don't!
To an extent it makes sense to only support the most current title in the franchise, TSW5 was free to upgrade for all players. It wouldn't make sense to invest limited resources in previous installments of the game. All the add ons and routes move to the next edition of the game and continue to get updated there. Well, slowly anyway they've only just sorted the bug out on New York to Trenton where the coach lights wouldn't turn on!
See, this would be fine if not for the fact that what we have right now is a game that is in a CONSTANT state of having game breaking bugs, for which fixes are contingent on purchasing a new game every year, AND there's no guarantee the new one will have those fixes either, while there is a guarantee it will introduce more bugs.
Oh I totally agree, don't get me wrong. My point is, we barely have the resources to fix the current version of the game let alone supporting previous titles. If we think it's bad now, imagine having to cater for all the previous titles too!
I don’t think you can count on any support for older versions, beyond a final housekeeping patch. DTG are even more ruthless than EA with their sports games, when it comes to dropping older versions. Even DLC generally Is on the “never touch again” list, after about six months on the market.
I wouldn't be so bad if dtg released a editor that can edit existing routes. If they don't want to support the game anymore, let someone else try.
I can only agree with the topic creator. When you get right down to it, you are spending money on an unfinished product. Although it contains obvious bugs that make it impossible to finish a certain game content, these bugs are not fixed (as an example here the scenario "International Rescue" in TSW4. This is also a reason why I won't be investing any more money in newer versions of this game from DTG. A car manufacturer cannot afford to have a car that does not drive when it is offered for sale. According to the motto: Never mind, it has 4 wheels and a steering wheel, the buyer just has to see how he can drive it. And so I have decided not to continue supporting TSW5 with money until these serious and obvious bugs in TSW4 have been fixed. And since you know DTG and these will almost certainly not be fixed, TSW5 is dead for me anyway. Spending money again on a version whose update cycle is shorter than the days in a year is out of the question for me.
I don't expect support to last forever for any title but I expect a game left in a playable state like I said I never even added services to my requirements a few dodgy ones no problem, its when scenarios cant be completed for example for a silly reason. I am concerned with this new game each year which sounds like it is now could result in a much more buggy game. TSW5 was clearly not ready for release look at the WCML south route. Problem is content needs more time in the oven as it were but obviously for business reasons they need it out to get the money. Problem is people will stop buying TSW games if it gets worse. I started going through TSW4 PS4 (completed PS5 version) and on PSN profiles quite a few trophies have only been unlocked by like 5 people ok not everybody is on that site but when a £2 indy game has like 100 or 1000 people unlocking a trophy it makes you wonder just how many people are actually playing TSW? If you loose a load of players it could make TSW unviable that is my concern
100%. If all the content is on the new version, what do you gain by not using the new version with more features... and compatiblity with new routes (which older routes don't have?) If you want to "cap" yourself at TSW 3...then you can only play TSW 3 and earlier games which means a) you are limiting your experience and b) DTG makes zero dollars on the TSW 3 person. So... it's bad for the player, and bad for DTG, especially when it IS free to upgrade. There is zero benefit for either. So why spend time and money on something without value? Now you CAN keep using it, just like you CAN keep using Word 98 if you already have it on your computer.... but the company shouldn't have to support it.
Their actions tell you everything you need to know. Focus Entertainment has not been shy exclaiming about how well this franchise is doing and the profits they are receiving, yet other than the remastering projects Liam has been doing, there's pretty much nothing on the roadmap on that front. They seem to have completely dropped their promises of adding suspension to all TSW4 era routes and trains, and the trains included in the special edition such as the Class 710 still don't even have it. I will say that them shipping conductor mode on NY-Trenton was a pleasant surprise (in typical Dovetail fashion, it doesn't work properly, and likely won't until after 2 waves of patches), but it very much feels like their priorities are all over the place. The theme seems to be whatever improvements we see to older content seem to be on the whims of the great developers who are passionate beyond company vision, rather than something dictated by management.
