If like me you enjoy driving german routes but wish you could change the language to English so you can understand what's being said just wanted to know its same for anybody else.

that would be possible in some way, but won't be realistic in any other way.

Where subtitles would be a good idea maybe?

Same in TSC with the Berlin S-Bahn routes. No attempt at localisation, in fact the developers specifically stated they weren’t prepared to compromise, but it leaves you with very little idea of what’s being said or possibly even required of you.

I prefer to hear the authentic sounds. But subtitles would definitely be a good idea for those that need them.

I’m fine with the German trains, but any other country aside from those using English or German, I would be totally stuck.

You mean station anouncments? Like "Zug fährt ein"? It's German on German routes, English on UK routes ("Mind the gap ..."), I guess Japanese on the upcoming Tadami Line and so on and so on ... it's authentic. And AFAIK you can activate subtitles - objectives and texts in training should be translated to your chosen language anyway since the game supports a lot (8) of localization

You could always learn to speak German. From what I've been told, it is one of the easier languages to learn.

Please! It's not like there's an entire community of Germans here who can speak fluent English. Why should we bother to learn a few words?

For the benefit of people like me, the above line should be delivered with significant sarcasm. I don't speak Deustch, and am consistently amazed at those that do speak multiple languages. I do appreciate that having subtitles would help with sales and outreach (I certainly wouldn't care much for German rail if TSW didn't release them in English. Furthermore, Matt's PZB tutorial was in English, and helped me learn).

It would be pretty weird if German trains started yelling 'Emergency brake' or 'Door release' instead of 'Zwangsbremsung' or 'Turfreigabe'. Kind of like if the class 801 said 'TPWS and AWS operational' in German, rather than English.

If it bothers you that much, remember that the older loks lack that nonsense completely, and we survived without it:o

Locos intended for operation in multiple countries usually have spoken announcements available in all the local languages as well, it's not just german. And yes, it sounds silly when it repeats "Safety system, Safety system!" in non-german languages.

There is only like eight words that are used in the audible warnings though, it's not like you need to learn the whole language for it.

I do speak a smattering of German, well a few tourist "get you by" phrases anyway and playing Zusi 3 puts a few basics in your mind. However, languages were never my strong point at school, I dropped out of French lessons in my third year at secondary school so didn't even get that to O-Level stage.

And my brain now is so feeble I couldn't even think about learning another language to a level of conversational fluency. I mean some days I barely manage to be coherent in English!

I know a decent amount of German. Shame it's all railway related!
