Hi all after my other planned route that did not work well I will try and again but this time hope to do it but I some of ideas of what route I would do so would put a poll up to see what route you want me to try and make routes would be around 40 to 80 miles
I've just done a check of the millage of each of these routes (apart from SLN) London to Peterborough - 76 Miles & 29 Chains London to Leicester - 98 Miles & 75 Chains London to Bedford - 49 Miles & 51 Chains London to Southampton - 79 Miles & 10 Chains London to Ipswich - 68 Miles & 52 Chains I feel like these are fairly long routes if you are a solo developer. It has taken me just under a year already to make the 17.5 mile Marston Vale Line. If you are making your first route and have no experience in stuff such as station modelling/Loco art.
I think you should work on your route first then work on each chain in order of what you wanna work on first. It makes it easier. Timetables get very complex very quick. Note: Just to clarify, work on the route without thinking to much on the timetable. That was my mistake, make sure the route (track and signals) are all set up and tested before working on timetable.
I voted for PBO too originally - I would love that section, with 91s too. Was hoping OP was taken on by DTG as a third party and then it would come to consoles lol. But understandably it's a lot of work, and therefore if PBO it out of the picture, Bedford comes next
If you want to build a London route as your first, why not try the Romford to Upminster line (now the Liberty line)? It's only 5.4km long, has 3 stations (2 of which are major interchanges) and uses the Class 710 from the Suffragette line). If you can manage to complete that, you'll have developed some skills to try out something longer.
Now for the 2 routes that I hope to make BedPen or GEML both routes would have 2 or 3 new trains BedPen would have a 222 and 319 and a Class 60, GEML new trains would be Class 360 Class 90 with new DVT and a Class 321 Now for the Layers HST be from Skyhook route and 700 dlc and Upcoming 378 ai at West Hampstead
OP, give Liam his 319 please lol. Maybe set it in the transition era so we have a mix of 319s and 700s - https://www.railtechnologymagazine....-replaces-last-of-30-year-old-class-319-fleet
My best of advice would be to start with a short route, this could come from a branch line or a line in general. Long routes require an extensive amount of time and assets, if it's majority in an urban area then you may have to shorten it. Landscaping often contributes a big factor to how a route is developed with all the buildings you will have to model on reflecting reality. It's also a best way to familiarise tools and learning how creating a route works. We don't want to end up like Rivet who attempted to go big with Edinburgh to Glasgow and we saw how that turned out *Cough *Cough. There's a whole dedicated thread on a list of branch line which many of us has suggested. Have a look, some may be of interest. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/branch-line-mini-packs.84431/#post-903150
I do belive there was a lovely transitional period with the London Midland 150s/153s at bedford, and the 319s,377/387s & 700s all operating at the same time. I belive it was sometime in mid to late 2017 so that would be a nice era.
