This has to be looked at now, it really has to. I wasn't going to get the new Kaiserslautern route only for getting a gift card and not wanting anything on the store. So i picked it up thinking it surely would perform better than Fulda. Well. Barely. It doesn't crash, which is great, but in the cab it feels like the game is crawling. This is on Series X by the way. All the latest routes are performing worse. I cant even complete a run in Fulda without the game dropping out to the Xbox dashboard. I'm also seeing no passengers at stations too. I am experiencing issues across a number of the newer routes: Crash to desktop (Fulda) Staccato performance, like its dropping frames with stutters (Fulda, WCML, Kaiser) Blurred textures (Fulda and elsewhere) Flickering textures (on buildings on the new route) These were very rare in TSW4 so now we have these on top of existing issues: Excessive pop in of mountains and trees Excessive, aggressive pop in of shadows and grass And on top of which AGAIN, we now have crazy long loading times when booting up the sim and in between loading in a route. This really needs to be addressed and it needs to be addressed now. If its not sorted on the routes we have all you'll be doing is loading more tech debt on future routes because honestly the Series X is struggling, and if its struggling so will the PS5 and the series S and the older consoles and you wont be able to patch all this dlc, it will take years to sort. Please, please, please make this your priority. The sim HAS TO run smooth.
No way they will ever fix it. TSW has never been a smooth game. Stuttering, framerate issues, etc. etc. are there since day one. Some of the new routes are definitely worse, especially the german ones (what's wrong with them?), but it's clear that the developers are not able to optimize this thing, or maybe they just don't care.
As well as performance stupid glitches are really getting on my nerves now. I wondered why my train wouldn't respond at Hemel Hempstead... It appears it derailed itself for no apparent reason... I've noticed if you pay close attention to both the 350 and 390 at speed around bends the wheels distort and twist against the rail. These glitches are getting beyond a joke. What really gets me down is whenever criticism around TSW5 is raised we get the "well its selling better then ever" type responses. I couldn't care less quite frankly, I've been a follower of this game since it was released and this has been the worst title of the lot. TSW4 seems to have been the peak of the game.
TSW feels like that Jenga game (a physical game not video game), where the bigger it gets without fixing things at the base level the more precarious it gets until one day it will all come crashing down.
Only way to highlight the issues and hopefully get some results. I mean as stated it’s never been a smooth game compared to TSC but matters have got worse since TSW5. To some extent with PC users it could be a variety of hardware issues, or even Windows Updates running in the background. But not consistently every day and every time you play on there regardless of route. I’m not one to advocate any sort of buying boycott, that’s up to individuals but I’m seriously considering whether to even get Mittenwaldbahn when it comes out as my enjoyment likely to be spoiled unless some of the problems can be addressed.
The only new DLC I have planned to buy for the foreseeable future is the F59PH, because it is going with the San Bernardino route which manages to run well without any major issues or bugs.
That’s the million dollar question. True, TSW was never smooth (still remember 15fps for 2 hours on SPG on the base PS4). However, it rarely, if ever, crashed before TSW5. All routes are way more happy to crash in TSW5 and Frankfurt - Fulda is quite literally unplayable with its crashes. The obvious suspect is of course the mysteriously resource intensive map, but only DTG know what changes in the backend have tanked stability. This must be resolved. Crashes and blurry textures are no way forward.
Another thread is needed. I'm also not happy with how TSW5 works on my PS5. I don't care that I don't have the power because what does it say on the box?
One thing that surprised me is that during the preview stream they said that they disabled the working elevators because they were identified as having massive performance impact (why the hell do we need such feature in a train simulator again?), but in the ambassador previews released yesterday, they were still working (well, working. you sank to ground from them if you pressed the button).
Perhaps they need to add "elevators" to the pinned post of things they know are causing performance problems next to the bullet points about using dynamic weather, rain, snow, using a 4k display, using photo mode, custom liveries or pretty much anything.
I must be an anomaly then. TSW5 runs smoothly for me. No crashes, blurry textures and the like at all.
Thats the reason Frankfurt - Fulda crashes for me about 50 % of all services. (Xbox Series X) Mainly between Hanau and Frankfurt. The blurry textures are ALWAYS there after a few minutes. You can not get rid of them. Its very annoying to drive this Route and I stopped playing it. Its to frustrating.
I have the same issues on Preston to Carlisle i.e the City of Carlisle not loading up until you arrive in the station so all you see is a grey floor, the river Lune not showing in places so instead you just see brown earth where the river should be, Carnforth not loading up when you pass it southbound and also issues around the Howgills where the hills don't load properly so you only see parts of the mountain.
Yeah, I'm on Series X. Which is weird, because surely I'd have these crashes as well. I only have WCML South and Preston-Carlisle out of the new routes, but, despite crashes being reported, I've seen none. Either I'm just lucky or have gotten to the point where I just ignore it.
I simply cannot use Bernina line on Xbox Series X due to an unacceptable draw distance. Some mountains look cut in half and they just don't load. Some of them pop-in suddenly (it also happens on other routes, but not so badly...)
This brings back memories of the TSW4 Thread's same issues, which occurred right around this time span after release. Silence is Golden, well within the realm of DTG... And the many reports of issues.
Unless it's possible to move your own threads between forums I'm guessing someone in dovetail towers knows about them seeing as someone moved this thread from general discussion to this subforum without bothering to acknowledge it or reply which kind of makes me wonder what this forum is for.
