If you uninstall old routes does that stop the rolling stock from appearing as layers in more modern routes? I always wondered that.

Because they are quick and easy to make and so make more profit probably.

I think a happy medium is the solution. The length of WCMLS for a Pendo was not it.

Thanks for the info, I just wondered what the SP experience is like now? When I first bought it there wasn’t much more than training.

There are several scenarios but some of these run in excess of two hours so without a means of saving the game, you need to be able/prepared to sit at your PC for the long haul.

I believe it does, as unlike TSC the stock is bundled in the DLC pak file.

There are people in the community who were even famous for specifically driving the same service every day (Cora and her 14129), driving for 4 hours across the whole map interested in how it will be different this time and if they can make it on schedule.

SP continues to be a testbed for things that are not yet suitable for multiplayer - shunting, backdated map set into 1980s, steam trains. However, devs generally give you just the tools - maps and vehicles, but only couple basic scenarios there, leaving the gameplay part (scenarios) on the community for the moment, while they focus on improving multiplayer and bringing the next DLC.

Which is starting to be a Disk space issue for myself. Maybe that's why there is only one Dosto type made for TSW

Thanks. So I need to do some detective work before removing an old route to see if most, at least, of the rolling stock is available elsewhere.

They could do with a better system for it to be honest. Its hard to keep track of what goes where and what it adds to a route.

Seeing how the new Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn DLC sits at 38% (Mostly Negative) on Steam, I decided to visit this legendary thread and read all the outrage, only to find... nothing.

13 reviews after the first day is extremely low, so my question is: do people simply not buy the newest slop anymore? I mean, I'm definitely waiting for at least 50% off on this one, but surely there are hardcore fans remaining for DTG to milk, right? Right?

I get the vibe quite a few are not bothering with this route…
    1. Because of the stealth price increase of a short route with no new rolling stock to £30.
    2. The generally poor impression from the streams and preview.
    3. It doesn’t offer much we don’t already have for Germany. They have saturated the sim with these 70km inter urban type routes.
    4. It is hotly pursued by the awesome looking Mittenwaldbahn.

Personally, I stopped buying add-ons after the release of TSW 4. I don't see any point in having a huge pile of one-time addons in this state of the game where there is no idea of further development. In addition, another problem is looming more and more - the game has begun to consume a lot of disk space just for the sake of locos you have to keep a bunch of boring and useless, overpriced routes.
TSW seems to me to be more and more rather outdated.....

I have mentioned this already. Re Disk space. Also the fact that routes are smaller and excuses/marketing bigger than ever. There needs to be consideration that TSW will one day finish it's course and then everyone's wallets will be expected to open again starting from scratch.

I feel like the earlier days of TSW were much more exciting, even if the routes were less complex in some ways and you didn't have the fancy adverts we see today.

I played the CSX route recently as it has always been sitting there in my library and even though it is one of the oldest routes in the game I think it holds up really well. It feels like the developers poured their hearts into it while developing the DLC. I only feel like that has been replicated by JT (from playing) and TSG (from watching).

I feel like the magic was lost from TSW4 onwards.

I certainly wouldn’t after the WCMLS debacle, what’s the point if they release half baked routes? Only possible exception would be dlc by JT.

Yes now we have a never ending conveyor belt of dlc with more thought on what they can fit into it from stuff already done than appeal to the customers.

Well, the first post complained about having to pay again for another game. Then we got a free option the following year.

    DTG are slowly catching on.

I wouldn't class it as paying for another game. Even if you just go for the basic 3 new routes and nothing else, you are getting your money's worth.

What annoys me the most is having to download all my content again year after year. You don't see the same thing happening with tsc every time.

It's not like it's a small download anymore, if you own everything.
I don't know if not finding a better way to upgrade is down to pure laziness or they would rather keep churning out routes to get our money.

I'm starting to think that DTG should wind down being a first-party developer and mostly become a publisher of 3rd party content. Keep a skeleton crew of developers to patch the core simulation aspects and let the various 3rd parties support their own DLCs. Tell Rivet and the like to go pound sand and do quarterly releases from quality devs (JT, TSG, Union Workshop come to mind). Quality over quantity. The current release schedule is way too busy anyway.

When Focus took over, I was hoping that they would do something similarly radical to clean DTG's house. However, it's been over a year, and they seem to be content with the current managed decline.

This new German DLC is the first one I haven’t bought. I don’t need it, I have more than enough DLC to last me a long time.

I’m not bothered by the lack of new rolling stock. I’m not even bothered by the price. Due to being on Steam and in Switzerland, I pay around 33% more than US/UK prices anyway. I’m numb to it now.

The reason I haven’t bought it is an increasing lack of quality. I thought the list of known issues was too long to start with. But then on the stream a lot more showed up. They weren’t even trying to hide it. There was zero enthusiasm on the stream from the presenters in my opinion.

I’ve managed to enjoy TSW a lot in the past and I still love the game. I even enjoyed WCML South despite its faults. But I’m done paying for blatantly unfinished DLC. I’ll watch this and see what fixes come, of what price reductions it gets. But for now, no sale.

Looking forward to TSG’s new release and will continue to follow what Just Trains do. They’ll both continue to get my money. But for DTG routes I’m going to be a lot more selective.

I agree that the early days of TSW were the best. The people at DTG seemed to be more committed and cared about what they were putting out.

Now it seems to me that they are much less interested and may be gradually abandoning route and loco building to 2nd and 3rd parties as they appear to have done with TSC. I wonder, as others do, just how many route and loco builders remain at DTG.

Personally I think that the " magic " pretty much disappeared after Rush Hour.

Is this a good development? If it means more quality output from the likes of JT and TSG maybe it is. Or is it the abnegation of responsibility for what carries the name of TSW to all-comers, good or bad?

One thing is certain. It may bode well in the long run for fans of British and German railways, but it looks like curtains for North American players.

Been on the roadmap coming up for 2 years now (Class 104 expansion pack), and we get drip fed small snippets of development from time to time.

I fear by the time it is ready for release it'll be a bit late and we may already have a completely updated game title that leaves UE4 behind.

It's a damn shame as Peak Forest is criminally under rated and has so much potential!

It has also been spotted the route has no reverb for bridges and tunnels over the line, which was pretty much accepted as standard from TSW4. Not good at all.

Oh as regards the Class 104 and green diesels for PFR, I remain entirely sceptical the whole project is not now vapourware. Happy to be proved wrong but I would bet my beanie hat there will be nothing new on the next roadmap, still in the > 3 month, i.e. we haven't got a fudging clue when, category.

i have done 4 scenarios now on Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn DLC
can not say that any of those where really exciting
1 with snow and mist and the sight was very poor
seen to many snow scenarios anyway
the one with the vip was also poor
the other 2 short scenarios ones where ok
now i only got the 2 longer ones left to do (duration)
    the route itself seems ok

I do like your turn of phrase "content with the current managed decline", says it all really. We can only suppose that Focus were attracted to DTG because of their DLC money machine bringing in regular cash. As long as that continues, why bother to waste resources on innovation or developing further the core? Let's milk this cash cow then move on to another acquisition. Only thing is, being owned by a parent company means more mouths to feed, so let's bump up those prices to compensate and let's keep pumping those DLC out folks. Tight on time? Publish anyway then fix the worst, it'll be forgotten in a few months.

Like many I used to buy most things day one, but now wait for a sale unless it's something highly desirable like JT, who at least gives us top quality and new classic UK locos. A real pity we can't go back to the good old TSW days of optimism and seemingly endless possibility (okay a little rose-tinted ;)).

To be fair though since day one when Focus took over DTG did say that Focus was not going to change anything as they were basically letting DTG continue what they were doing.

The game is still a success because sales seem to be getting higher every year and last I checked more sales means success in the business world.

Also how is this any different than TSC was run. If memory serves me right the 3rd party DLC was better than DTG DLC on TSC as well. Of course there were exeptions, just like Rivet in TSW.

They have been doing this since 2013 so why would it change after 12 years.

It makes millions of dollars more than you do..so how could it be a flop.

By your theory McDonalds is a flop because they serve low quality food

TSC was able to be supplemented by 3rd parties in a way that TSW isn't. 3rd parties have to go through DTG for everything in TSW. Success in sales maybe but from a enthusiast point of view it's seriously stagnated. 37s are virtually non existent, 56s and 60s nowhere to be seen. Steam is done unless Thomas counts. I guess one handled EMUs and modern red German trains sell in such high numbers that the rest of railway operations can be forgotten or just given a token nod....

I guess it is. Since I'm one of these who only like modern one handled EMUs and DMUs.

Thats what I drove in real life for 26 years.

I wait for sales on Retro, Steam and US freight.

I guess that is a consequence of having all reused stock, and nothing else to show for it. They’ve created a really tasty sandwich with no bread at all. Which defeats the point in it.

The route itself is great, scenery is not bad and it’s quite pretty. But gameplay wise? What a borefest. With no new locos, it’s like getting your dusty PlayStation 3 out the attic to play with.

Kaiserslautern is certainly turning out to be a very unpopular route. Am I shocked? Nah, not really.
