I've all 7 episodes of the Commander Keen series somewhere...I think it takes up a whopping 4MB..... Still nowt to do with TSC though....
synth if you want to chat about non TSC stuff then it's best to use the Off-Topic part of the forum: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/forums/off-topic.40/ There you won't get the slightly annoyed comments you've got here.
It sounds like a casual note about the size of TSC. It's 50% legit and 50% not. The "not" part is that each DLC is like a separate game. You can just combine them. The "yes" part is that many of assets are replicated instead of shared from a common place. One thing you can do with TSC is to minimize it by only having DLC installed that you intend to play. I have purchased a 2TB for the same reason but since TSC loads like a crawl - and I had to reinstall - it says 1.47 of 1.81 free. I do play several other games. Most of them aren't huge. GW2 and WoW are relatively.
Only 3 games, TSC, MSFS20, MSFS24, leaves enough space for me to download another game if i choose (ie play the kids at FIFA over Christmas etc!) The (relatively) new MSFS24 hardly takes up any space on PC as the game is largely streamed directly from the MS servers. I was thinking of upgrading my PC, but the results im seeing in MSFS24 makes me think my RTX2060 super still has some life left in it. If the streaming software get provens over the coming months, would be awesome to think TSC could be redeveloped to run via some sort of monetised streaming, rather than relying on a large locally stored folder of assests and requirements.
I am starting to run out of HD space. TSW even with some routes removed is around 300Gb and no doubt Mittenwaldbahn later today will add another 15 to 20 Gb. TSC even triaged a bit is getting on for 500Gb. Various other games I like to play such as Dirt Rally, the Mass Effect Trilogy, Forza Horizon etc. all gobble up around 100Gb of HD space each. I know I could just buy an extra or bigger HD but as I’m looking to change the PC later in the year (it won’t take Windows 11 even with the registry workaround and Rufus) the wife has basically ruled out spending any more on the current box. So MSFS 2020 has had to be left uninstalled as that also needs some 500Gb if you grab the various updates and my PC is way below spec for the new MSFS (plus I’m too tight fisted to pay £70 for it).
Then you would have a Vanilla game with no add-ons, repaints or freeware. If that is what you want have a look at TSW5
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is based on Streaming the scenery etc to save on disk space and people are having all sorts of problems. A lot of people have gone back to the previous version of MS FS 2020 where everything is loaded onto your computer. The biggest issue is people have varying internet connection speeds with some being too slow.
The game size situation is getting somewhat ridiculous! I picked up a 24tb seagate spinner in a sale. Though its not the best for gaming, I can store my games on it when I'm not playing them.
