The original DTL article can be found here

The route, set in 1989 and developed by Train Sim Germany (TSG), features cross-border running between Austria and Germany and introduces the classic Krokodil style locomotive to Train Sim World.

    About TSG

Train Sim Germany (TSG) has been creating content for both Train Simulator Classic and Train Sim World since 2011 both as a contractor and as a Partner Programme developer.

Previous Train Sim World releases include the G6 shunting locomotive and the fan-favourite Niddertalbahn route Add-on, as well as Train Sim World’s first ‘Expert’ level locomotive: DB BR 101 and the first German main line diesel locomotive with the DB BR 218.

    The Route

Also known as the Karwendelbahn, the Mittenwaldbahn traverses the Alps between Bavaria, Germany and Tyrol, Austria.

The Mittenwaldbahn features many tunnels and iconic bridges, with incredible ruling gradients as steep as 3.8%. Such lines offer challenge, but also scenic wonder; take-in the sights of the peaks and valleys, with the rails rising as high as 1.1km above sea level and Seefeld providing the summit of the route.

Along the route lie principal stations at Innsbruck, Mittenwald and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, punctuated by impressive infrastructure such as the bridge over the Schlossbachklamm. The area is known for its ski resorts and services will vary between those transporting ski tourists and local freight for the towns situated along the route.

    The Trains
    [IMG]

    ÖBB 1020 ‘Krokodil’
    [IMG]

The ÖBB 1020 ‘Krokodil’ dates from between 1940 and 1956. As a result, this locomotive offers a vastly different sort of driving experience to that of other European locomotives in Train Sim World. Turning the control wheel results in the taps visibly moving in the machine room as you travel up and down the mountainous route.

    DBB BR 111
in DBB Blue and Cream livery
    [IMG]

Joining the ‘Krokodil’ is the BR 111. In Mittenwaldbahn this locomotive offers a ‘more modern’ experience over the ageing ÖBB 1020 and comes in a new livery of DBB Blue and Cream, making a change from the ubiquitous red paint seen in this part of Europe.

For Mittenwaldbahn the cab and exterior have been worked on to better represent this locomotive as seen in the late 1980s, including a reworked cab layout. The above image shows the reworked older cab for Mittenwaldbahn (left) and the more modern version seen in Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn: Mannheim – Kaiserslautern and Bahnstrecke Salzburg - Rosenheim (right).

    Download the Manual
    [IMG]

The BR 111 also features the safety system Indusi, rather than PZB. This safety system was previously seen on the Niddertalbahn’s BR 365.

Players that are not familiar with this system will be able to learn more about this and the ÖBB 1020 with the route’s Manual.

    Coaches and Wagons
n-Wagen ‘Silberlinge’ Bn and ABn, IC coaches, Es50, rmms663, Tadgs and Shimmns wagons
    [IMG]

Facilitating both passenger and freight services is a selection of rolling stock, with both new additions and reliveries of stock seen in previous route Add-ons.

‘Silberlinge’ Bn and ABn coaches in DBB brushed metal livery are hauled by both locomotives for passenger trains along the route, with notable weathering on the roof. Mixed rakes of IC coaches in both DBB blue & cream, and red & cream liveries offer a more presentable setting for passengers.

For freight trains, two new wagons are included in the Add-on: the DBB Es50 and DBB rmms663 with the latter hosting four different types of loads! Tadgs 959 and Shimmns 708 wagons are also included, in new DBB liveries.

    Timetable and Gameplay
    [IMG]

The timetable features services focused primarily on the ÖBB 1020 which has 104 playable services, with a supporting 63 services from the DBB BR 111.

Both of these locomotives haul trains across the entire route which is punctuated by single-track running which create bottlenecks and limit the number of services running at one time.

    Additional Service Layers
    [IMG]

Two additional services layers will feature for players that have other Add-ons in their collection.
    These are:
    • BR 365 from Niddertalbahn, operating playable services between Garmisch and Mittenwald (5 playable services in total).
    • BR 103 from Linke Rheinstrecke, operating AI services at Innsbruck
Check out the latest Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn route Add-on will also be able to utilise a rail tour layer from Mittenwaldbahn featuring the BR 103 from Linke Rheinstrecke and the IC Coaches. Players can also create their own ÖBB 1020 rail tours on other routes with Free Roam or Formation Designer!

    Collectibles
Along the way there’ll be plenty of collectibles to find and tasks complete, including putting up stickers, replacing milk bottles and tidying up luggage racks and ski equipment.

Train Sim World 5: Mittenwaldbahn: Innsbruck - Garmisch-Partenkirchen route Add-on is out now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for €39.99/£32.99/$44.99

Technically it’s another @7 hours for we PC master race!

But the wife kindly let me add a Steam Wallet Gift Card to our shopping at Sainsbury’s this morning, so fully funded. Just marking time now for release.

Thank you Tom, Doesn’t show on xbox so l am grateful for the link now purchased and installing. Will have to wait until midday to play it now unfortunately.

Everytime there is a new release from DTG it’s impossible to find it on the Microsoft xbox store search, so am grateful for the link.

Unfortunately, my concerns about the frame and chassis textures have been confirmed. It almost feels like something in the material settings or I don't know... Could it be related to the reflection of clouds in the windows or something? With increasing distance, the chassis loses its plasticity and becomes like a 2D texture in the fog. Anyway, for me, it's unwatchable.

EDIT: It looks a bit like a photomontage of 1020 next to Silberling
It ultimately looks like the problem will be with the entire castle, but it's not as obvious on the orange one at first glance.

And the upper polygons on the bogies are still quite bright, but underneath the locomotive it looks quite unnatural when viewed through the holes in the frame.

PS5 Pro console ... first look
I'm doing my first ride with BR111 + Silberling, Eilzug Gapa-Innsbruck. Winter weather set, about 65% snow level. I think the scenery is displayed in full. In stations like Mittenwald etc. I notice a slight blurring especially on BR111, I follow the structure of dirt on the roof, but it's nothing that would be noticeable and disturbing during normal operation, so far so good for me. Even a slightly snowy chassis on the OBB 1020 somewhat eliminates the strange effects that I mentioned above.

Although I don’t really think it’s a super big issue, I definitely get your concerns. Lukas said he’s already looking into it. If you look at pictures of the real thing, the lower part of the Krokodil loco is definitely brighter than on other locos and wagons (could be because quite a lot of light can get to these lower portions, compared to other locos/wagons which are a bit more… shielded down there). But the whole thing could definitely do with a slight darkening - either through changing the texture colors, or changing the way the materials/shadows behave (the latter being the more likely option I think - I’m sure they made an effort to get the paint color right in the first place).

The graphics look good but I don't see any mountains near Innsbruck on xbox X. Did you forget them? They were visible in the prerelease build:

    I agree with that.

Originally it looked on the stream that it was due to texture shading, but now that I see it live on PS5, I think the error must be in some material setting, or filter directly on the model (polygons). Exactly as you mention, it must be in the setting of something on the model, because the new Rmms model is fine, as well as the lighter chassis on the BR111 are fine.

I believe that TSG can solve and fine-tune this.

TSG is usually great even at launch but between the obvious graphical issue with the Crocodil and whatever is going on with those mountains, i'm glad i didn't pull the trigger yet. I'm getting Arosa vibes.

Did DTG do one of their classic, "we published the wrong build" oopsies?

Waiting for the first patch or some clarification at this point.

Damn, that's pretty egregious :/ Looks like the limited draw distance on Xbox Series X strikes again. Makes Innsbruck incomparable to its real-life equivalent.

    PS5 -
I can now confirm that driving ÖBB1020 with Dualshock is good, so satisfying to accelerate and brake, and it’s optimized for controller - you can change Motoring/Braking lever without aiming camera on it - Square button to change braking mode and then L2. You have to try it on your own to understand how great is it to drive!

So far introduction and first run done, Im so excited, route looks amazing and I surely will spend lot of hours overe here at Mittenwaldbahn! Thanks a lot TSG for another great product!

Although TSG did confirm limited draw distance for Xbox (which is completely out of their control let's remember), it was also said that the difference wasn't that noticeable.

    I find it rather noticeable.

Mh, I am on XBox Series X as well. Might wait a bit longer before purchase. Maybe others have similar issues regarding missing mountains. That would be a pity.

So I have to try the control on 1020. What is a little uncomfortable is that, like PZB, it can show its statuses on the auxiliary display on the right under the HUD Track, Indusi 60 does not show it...... On the way to Innsbruck, I noticed that on the Austrian side there were several situations when it was indicated that slow driving was expected and even a warning and no activation of the 1000Hz magnet happened.....so I'm a little lost in it
I agree, it's an interesting route, it will be a lot of fun. Let's hope the patch will be soon and it will work

I don't know what to say, I'm getting lost in this :)

    Manual
    AT Vorsignal
    This signal must be
    acknowledged, whether there is a
    1000Hz magnet or not.

When using the right joystick R3 and the left button for head out view on the 1020, unfortunately you can't immediately return to the basic driver's view by pressing R3 again...that's a shame...it works on the BR111.....

And then, both on the BR111 and on the 1020, unfortunately, the circular button again activates both the Sifa confirmation and the Indusi Acknowledge

So far one run with BR111 and one with 1020, in both cases only for the gold medal, the problem is maintaining speed and stopping precision
    It's a challenge

At least TSW is more lenient than TSC where I had terrible trouble with "game overs" on that version after the sim detected me rolling at stations with the doors open, even though brakes fully applied.

We have no control over this, the game has reduced draw distance on Xbox Serie X. It cant be configured per route, but that was mentioned in the stream. I will ask if DTG can do something about that.

Why is the addon not yet released on steam? It's not even listed. I wonder why Steam users are left waiting while everyone else gets to play already...

    That's a shame.

I was really looking forward to this one but that kind of performance/feature cut is unacceptable for me personally. So, my no spending in TSW in 2025 continues. Bummed out about this.

And for the vast majority of people who don't follow the forums, they're being sold a clearly inferior version of the product at full price on Series X.

Is there any kind of disclaimer on the store page?

I know you don't control any of this. I love all of TSG's work but this is too much imo.

Maybe someone from DTG can get in this discussion?

I don't wish to stir the pot unnecessarily but is this draw distance setting on Xbox because of series S performance? Or can the Series X just not handle it?

Just a rather unfortunate turn of events that should've been made clear prior to release. Hopefully something can be done.

On PS5, it is confirmed with the circular button, unfortunately it also launches PZB(Indusi) Acknowledge, so it's gonna be a buzzing sound or something

I'd like to know this too. Are the distances reduced on PS5? If not, then Series S is 100% the culprit.

Hmm, unfortunately a known issue in some locos. Hearing 'zugbeeinflussung' every time I acknowledge SIFA on the ICE1 gets old real quick.

Anyway, the poster I responded to seemed to claim that acknowledge wasn't mapped at all. Which I found a bit strange.

It would be helpful if a PS5 player could post the same scene so we could see side-by-side with Series X.

If it does end up being a Series S limitation, i'd hope they consider shipping Gen 8 builds for Series S in the future.

I understand doing a seperate Series S build is unfeasible, but why punish Series X players with worse quality?

Agreed it should be pinned as a PSA, a fair warning to prospective Xbox buyers.

But they moved the topic to the depths of the troubleshooting subforum, like they did with my similar thread about Vorarlberg and Rosenheim on Xbox, a year ago :/

No idea what was happening in the past, can't remember which routes I was on and it was when I was first trying German safety systems. If I pressed circle nothing happened, and I would be penalty braked, every single time, whereas digging out an old keyboard and pressing page down worked. I spent ages trying and the only thing that worked was page down, so I've been using a keyboard just for that one button ever since!

Maybe whichever route/loco I was learning on was bugged, but for years I've either used the keyboard or just didn't bother with the safety systems, whereas I've just tried circle on a newer route (one that shows the big yellow Acknowledge warning as easier to test than on this route) and circle works.

So, yeah, a me problem, not a game one, thanks for the replies which made me go back and try it again.

??? DTG is a British company belonging to a French conglomerate. Most good things aren't from the US (like KCD, Witcher/Cp2077, BG3, Anno, ATS/ETS). Or am I missing something? Also, I'm not sure, but I think Dovetail does their marketing in house. Not that I expect that this minor annoyance will change.

First ride ( E685 / Garmisch-Innsbruck / departing Garmisch at 10:27 / BR 111 ) endet prematurely at the first Stop in „Klais“, as the exit signal was constantly showing „Hp0“ ( Stop ).
No AI-Traffic or whatever anyway near to my position…
