I am fairly convinced at this point that DTG doesn't know how a particular DLC will run on Series S as far as layers are concerned. When FTF and SBD were found to have reduced layers, it took DTG a week of "looking into it" before they could give a response. With MNK apparently missing layers, Harry has responded but appears to be caught off guard about the issue, and there is still no official response. I recently bought SBN on sale, only to discover it is missing layers as well; looking on these forums shows that this is a known problem. Known to the players, but not to DTG.

If I could hazard a guess I would say that the final process of "right-sizing" a route for Series S is not performed by anyone who works directly for DTG, and whatever is done is never communicated to DTG. It really is a slap in a face because all it would take it one person playing a new DLC one time on Series S, and including whatever information about missing layers on the article for the DLC before release. Yet, after repeated failures, DTG cannot be bothered. They can barely mount a response after the fact! I think by now all Series S owners know about the limitations of the system. All we are asking for is communication. But, no.

And then of course we have JT removing layers for Shap on Series S weeks after release. As I have said before, this whole business about removing layers is nonsense anyways because the players can already do this themselves. It really seems just a lazy way of "optimizing." I would discourage anyone on Series S from buying anything else for this game because you never know what you're going to get, and what you do have, can just be taken away.

Which is bonkers when you consider that Matt apparently has a series S in his office

Mittenwaldbahn was the last straw for me with TSW on Xbox Series X.

It's just not worth the money and the hassle anymore to play TSW on Xbox Consoles.
All their presented footage and preview showcase is only on PC, and you have to guess what you get and what not from the shown content.

TSW on Xbox is dead for me.
I'm just looking for appropriate sales on Steam from now on and rebuy stuff I already own, just to have an aquedate TSW experience that I should have from the start on Gen9 consoles.

Other games are able to scale their content and texture processing accordingly between series S and X.
Not so DTG. Here you get crippled versions of the game, because of reason I don't care as customer tbh. Series X is on same technical standard as the PS5 but all their effort is in delivery chopped off content.

It all likely just comes down to DTG still playing fast & loose with QA.

Collectively they have had feedback telling them the QA was obviously lacking, yet in TSW5 they seem to have reduced it further.

As Matt said, they have 7 builds to look after & id bet a years salary on them taking shortcuts in testing all of them.

Aye, for me Rosenheim-Salzburg was the last straw. And since then I've been buying back everything (and more, to be fair) on Steam. There's a Steam Sale on right now! Game runs mostly fine on my laptop and okay to swimmingly on the Steam Deck.

Also, if you happen to have PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate you have access to your Xbox library on PC, if I'm not mistaken. So that maybe worth checking out first.

Yeah I know, but the Game pass version has issues when it comes to mods.
If I go to PC, then I would like to have the benefits as well.
It's just annoying to rebuild your TSW libary, when you realize that consoles are a dead end for simulation type games.
I'm highly annoyed at the moment.

Yes, I had thought that some day I might upgrade to Series X and further enjoy my TSW library, but it seems pointless to even expand my collection at this point, forget about an upgrade. If anything, the game seems to be worse on console (all consoles) now than it ever has been. But, I will say that I have enough content as it is right now to right occupy me for a good long while, even on Series S.

I'd recommend the X over the S. It's what I play TSW on, and to me, I don't really have any problems with it.

TSW actually runs ok on Xbox Series X. But in this case with Mittenwaldbahn, the mountains are not visible and that is the stumbling stone with this route, especially for Xbox Series X.

Now that you are able to differenciate between Series S and X for timetables surely the same can be done for draw distance at this point.

It has been almost a year and Mittenwaldbahn is absolutely terrible when it should be as stellar as it is on PS5 at this point.

Any progress being made on rectifying this for Series x players?

I wanted to clarify the root cause of the reduced draw distance for Xbox as I had recalled, but perhaps seems far-fetched. I was able to locate the stream I thought I had remembered. TSW May 2024 Roadmap, start watching at 1:10:28. This is what I hear:

    1) All Xbox uses "Gen 8" draw distance.

    2) PS5 uses the "PC numbers." It was originally intended to use "Gen 8" numbers as well but because of an "error in the config file," it does not.

    3) For Series X to be upgraded would require more memory. In this sense DTG states that Series S is holding back Series X, due to the memory requirements. Why there can't be different versions for S/X, isn't directly addressed.

    https://www.youtube.com/live/hqvHF7PUm2k?si=tUY9X7pE3NS9oyE-

I haven't really heard DTG speak about Xbox draw distances before or after. The other interesting note is that, in the SRM preview stream, there is a point where Matt mentions that the mountains there were done with a "different technique" so that they would not be affected by draw distance. Why this hasn't been done for Mittenwaldbahn or other routes, is not known.

I will report this in a few other threads that are currently dealing with the topic of Xbox draw distance.

I wonder... WCML Shap has reduced layers on Series S, while Series X retains them.

Would the same thing be possible here?

Thank you for this thread, you’ve just saved me a lot of hard-earned money. I’m not buying something that’s missing a key element

DTG seem worse every year on optimizing thier main product, I doubt they have professional skills to fix this core issue.
