I have a question about the Swiss safety system ZS: if I do not respect a signal requiring me to slow down to 40kmh, will I be taken care of by this system and will I be stopped in an emergency? I want to know precisely if, without being fully aware of it, I respected the signaling correctly on Berninalinie, and I could be certain of this by the fact of never having (except once) had emergency braking by ZS.
it should stop you if you don't acknowledge it (not sure if it monitors speed) an example is going into the descent into (i think) Le Prese, there is a faulty magnet that always will stop you
The system implemented on Bernina is the ZSI-90 safety system. It is very similar to the Integra-Signum system found on the normal gauge network. In reality both ZSI and Integra have been replaced by more modern systems. ZSI-90 can have an indirect speed check. When passing a magnet at "warning" a timer is started onboard the train. If the train passes over a "stop" magnet within a predefined time, the train is too fast and will stop. If the timer expires the reception of new inputs from magnets is blocked for fixed time. So these speed checks work similar to the speed check sections under PZB/Indusi. Usually these checks are only installed in front of points to stop trains from derailing when taking the branch. If and where the Berninaline has these speed checks in real life and if Rivet implemented them, I don't know, but in general: Yes there is such a function.
