Seriously it’s pretty good for a game so old. With rwenhancer and ap weather the routes look great. I am also pleasantly surprised with the scenery detail which seems much more detailed than even tsw. You can spot a lot of the landmarks and the difference in architecture of the buildings rather than copy pasted assets. There seems so much more care.
Not sure what all the fuss is about with TSW. Everything you could want is in TSC (minus the treasure hunt, conductor mode etc). RSSLO just released a new German route. Still lots of love to be found within the TSC 3rd party suppliers and contributors.
It’s also the sheer scale of something like WCML north or west highland line extension. Yes I know some of the assets may look a tad dated in places but these routes really stand up well. The Liverpool to Manchester route I was able to spot key details all along the line after travelling that route multiple times in my job.
WCML North is an old route, but I agree it still stands up well. Keith Ross really set a high standard when he built it 12+ years ago. The 100+ mile routes still haven't been beaten in TSW. If you want a long run only TSC will give it.
I keep coming back to TSC, now I have discovered how to make quick drives it has given TSC a complete new lease of life for me. I still like TSW and if it had longer routes, more steam and more BR content it would be enough for me, but I am getting tired of all the short modern routes now. It has become a bit of a one trick pony, the JT and TSG routes aside. It is a shame though that DTG have apparently stopped developing content for TSC. I seem to recall they were making a Scottish steam route but I assume that has been shelved.
It feels like TSW capped itself when it decided to provide a solution for gaming platforms. More and more I believe that TSC is the best train simulator there is. If you want a casual play use TSW. If you want to route build in a train set environment use Trainz. If you want to specialize in USA West Coast freight use Run8. If you want a large variety of routes with a decent length of drive with a huge amount of rolling stock use TSC. I know which option I am investing in. Respectfully
Agreed, there is potential for TSW but the copy/paste assets need to stop, the overall bright overexposure for ToD4 needs to be toned down, and support for Gen8 should be dropped as it holds TSW back. If DTG can also find a way to stop the red signal bugs and microstuttering with Ue4, then it would be solid. I played a few TSC routes recently with rwenhancer and custom presets for the graphics and I must say, for routes that were made between 2013 and 2017, they hold up very well and in some cases, even surpass the graphical quality of their TSW counterpart. If TSC had a dedicated timetable mode, I don't think there would be a need for TSW
MSFS24 is showing want can be achieved graphically and game play by using modern streaming technologies. Would love to see DTG call a line under TSC and TSW, and make a fresh start with the technology now available and start a brand new modern sim, utilising what assets, knowledge and routes they accumulated over the years!
The focus seems to be more on the console market ATM because there are customers there who would not be on PC. I have always considered this to be a mistake. TSC remains the better game. And you can play Steam libraries on consoles in some ways. So TSC is technically there already. It might not work, but it's there.
