Start up the engine and rattle through California in a classic American cab with the Metrolink F59PHR locomotive, out now!

Note that this release is only available for PlayStation 5, Xbox One , Series X/S, and PC via Steam and Epic.

    The Locomotive: Metrolink F59PHR
    F59_SS_7.jpg

Derived from the GP59 freight locomotive, the F59PH was designed in the 1980s to deliver new passenger diesel equipment to emerging commuter networks. Kitted out with 3000 horsepower and Head End Power, the F59PH was among the top brass of locomotives, making them a clear candidate to work in tandem with modern cars and capable of handling busy schedules.

    F59_SS_3.jpg

First settling into service in Toronto, Canada, the early 1990s saw a fleet of locos ordered for Metrolink to embark out of Los Angeles and run across their sprawling Californian network. As years have rolled by, so has technology, but despite two newer diesel types in traffic today, the F59PH hangs on as the F59PHR – a rebuilt variant which can meet modern emission standards, hence the “R” designation in the name.

As part of their age, the Metrolink F59PHRs still hang onto their classic white undercoat, a stark contrast to the silver sheen of their passenger equipment. The F59PHR comes accompanied with bombardier bi-level cars in their grey liveries and the accompanying Conductor Mode.

    The Routes:
San Bernardino Line + Antelope Valley Line
    San Bernardino Line

    ND24-Summary-Cards-San-Ber-02-02.jpg

The F59PHR will be available to operate in timetable mode across both Metrolink routes available for Train Sim World 5.
In San Bernardino Line, included in Train Sim World 5: Standard Edition, Metrolink trains power through the LA suburbs and out along the east-west route to San Bernardino via 57 miles of track and 15 stations (16 total).

    F59_SS_1.jpg

At LA, trains pass by the freeway and run effectively alongside the road traffic, before branching out of the city. Built up residential areas and industry fade out into a landscape of smaller towns served by Metrolink’s commuter services, passing by Kaiser Mill and the Auto Club Speedway station, which only serves passengers on race days!

    Antelope Valley Line

    TSW5-Antelope-Valley-Route-Map-1920x1080.jpg

The Antelope Valley Line was part of Train Sim World 4: Standard Edition and is now available as a separate route Add-on for Train Sim World 5.
The real-world route has origins in the late 1800s and closed to passenger and freight traffic in the 1970s before being reopened as a commuter rail service in the early 1990s.
Trains also depart the impressive Los Angeles Union Station but this time head off in the direction of Santa Clarita to the north, before turning east toward Palmdale and north again to Lancaster via a brand-new station at Vista Canyon.
Using Train Sim World 5’s Route Hopping feature, players with both routes will be able to ‘hop’ between them at LA Union Station. This feature is also available at San Bernardino Depot for players that own Cajon Pass.
The result is potential gameplay sessions involving three Metrolink passenger locomotives and services across two of their routes – from San Bernardino through to Lancaster, with a break at LA Union Station.
Free Roam will also allow players to spawn in the F59PHR onto other USA routes in their collection or the Candian National Oakville Subdivision route Add-on, where these locomotives originally ran under another operator prior to their move to California.
Antelope Valley Line is available at 80% off on both Epic Games and PlayStation until 24th and 26th February 2025 respectively.

    Schedule and Scenarios
    [IMG]
The F59PHR substitutes into passenger services on both San Bernardino Line and Antelope Valley Line, mixing things up with the F125 and MP36PH-3C locomotives. There will be three Scenarios to play on Antelope Valley Line.
    These feature:
    • A service where one of the locomotives is taken out of service for scrapping
    • A celebration of a service anniversary prior to the introduction of the newer locomotives
    • A service involving the recovery of a failed locomotive
Train Sim World 5: Metrolink F59PHR loco Add-on is out now for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for $16.99/£12.99/€15.99

Currently got both routes uninstalled anyway, but no Journey mode on either for the loco, then?

too lazy to make journey mode for the loco? not interested then. SB is completed to 100%, Antelope Valley at around a half of that.

Microsoft are advertising this as suitable for Xbox One. Is that right?

I bypassed from purchasing this product as l thought DTG said it wouldn’t work on an Xbox 8th generation!

Yes that's correct, it is available on Xbox One. This originally wasn't clear in the articles, which we have now updated.

I'm not really into US freight, but I have been getting slowly into US passenger trains.

I love both Antelope Valley, and San Bernardino, and the variety this will offer on both routes. I'm also impressed by the locomotive myself so this will be a day one purchase for me. I look forward to playing it later on this evening!

DTG: We added MP36 to AVL.
DTG: We added Bombardier cars to AVL.
So... where is it? Both of this.

When you sayed "added MP36" you've techicaly added Bombardier car(I saw just one) instead. But when you sayed in the next update "added Bombardier" you've technicaly remove them. And today we don't have any of what you've "added".
You could have done nothing and the result would have been exactly the same. The efficiency of your work is simply amazing.

same... might buy it during my evening meal break at work so I can play it when I get home (I usually leave my PC turned on with Steam active so I can sometimes do this)... also playing a lot of US passenger stuff, mostly diesel as I like the managing of speed, chill routes etc.... sometimes I even forget that MetroLink routes dont have proper PTC implemented, which speaks a lot about enjoyment... from a guy who LOVES safety systems as core part of the experience :D ... I also like that at San Bernardino you have the options of like services that end up at Speedway, SB or the terminus... but would also love sth like this but maybe with a branch or two, to have networking options like on WCML, London Commuter and such

anyway, will get this for sure... hopefully getting rid of traction lock will be more convenient than on F40PH on Peninsula Corridor :D

Exactly. They clearly stated on February 10th Patch Update “Updated Timetable Formation To Allow San Bernardino’s MP36 loco substitution”

They shouldn’t release it until it’s ready to fully release it without problem. That’s why people are so confused why there are so many F125

    Also forgot to mention:
    - There is no Bombardier cabcars, coz it's PHR and not PH!
    - We have included the numbers of all PH locomotives. You know, they looks the same. So... no cabcar, coz it's PHR and not PH! Just look at the numbe...

Just had a drive from Los Angeles to San Bernardino... Thoroughly impressed. The sound on the locomotive is lovely, very beefy engine! Credit where it's due, a very nice and well made locomotive.

Interesting. Might have to wishlist this and reinstall AVL & SBO.

Edit: Based on initial reviews, purchase made. So much to do... this, Semmering, Mittenwaldbahn!

Looking forward to getting this loco when it appears in a sale on the PS store. I just can’t afford to pay full price for everything but I was quite impressed with it in the live stream so it’s gone in high up on the sales list. Love the cab layout and the very minimalist livery.

That’s how I did it when there was US Routes and US Loco Add ons on sale at the time. You’ll miss out on it but at the same time you’ll be doing yourself a favor saving money at the same time. Overall this locomotive is a beast

So given the earlier favourable feedback in this thread about sounds, the official feedback thread now has people posting they are quite poor. In advance of trying it myself later who is right; can this be reconciled?

    Internal sounds are good.
I mean the joint sounds are nice internal, but barely hearable external. Horn sound are really good, but have much more details internal than external. Engine sounds really good, but exactly as horn have much more detailed sound internal. But the sounds of metal wheels rolling on rails are insanely good external. Some sounds are missing like buttons of horn and bell.
But you know, I’m ready to forgive all the flaws with the sounds simply because I was won over by the real metal (for once, not plastic!) sounds of the wheels.

Driving it for the first time, I'd say that this loco is very good indeed. Sounds for this series of engine are very familiar to me and I think I was hearing the distinct whine of the HEP as well as the prime mover and track sounds.

The exterior modeling seems spot on and I don't mind the plain livery.

The cab is fun to play with, if a little bit of a caricature ( slightly cartoonish, overly colorful and too clean loooking ), but still very functional with lots of controls to mess with.

Overall, very well done and, for once, the US price is fair.

Makes me wonder why DTG doesn't build more NA locos, especially Amtrak for which there have been many distinct locomotives over the years.

yep, when at idle F59PHR looks like Class 66 (and unless I'm wrong I'm pretty sure this is due to the fact that both locos have the same prime mover)

In case anyone is wondering, Journey mode only on the AVL route not SBO. Fair enough, just have to pick it up via Timetable.

I'm quite enjoying this! Did one full run from LA Union to San Bernardino and it's a bit of a challenge keeping on time and being accurate stopping with the gradients. I like the sounds a lot and it seems nicely modeled.

The poor representation of I-10 where it runs next to the tracks still annoys me (untextured/unlined road surfaces, floating cars, generic road signs)- DTG did a much better job with this representing I-90 in Boston-Worcester- hopefully that will at least be the standard going forward.

Not really the loco's fault though lol. Gonna try a return trip to LA in the cabcar and then head out on AVL in the F59.

Yes, I sort of agree, except that driving into Boston South alongside the expressway in the morning rush, there are huge gaps in the traffic flow when my recollection is that it is a virtual parking lot as it is in all major cities at that time of day.

I give them a little break on that, accurately depicting rush hour traffic is computationally expensive and i don't think anyone's really pulled it off outside of cut-scenes other than maybe that Matrix UE5 demo- there's room to improve of course, but i don't need it to be perfect- just not immersion breaking. Boston-Worcester achieves that for me, while LA-SBD falls short.
