Probably people not buying DLC with today's prices so they have to do something so people will start buying.

I think the prices today are too expensive

Well TSW stuff just got a hike from £30 to £33 for routes with a new train and £25 to £30 for routes without. That means more and more stuff simply waiting for a sale and in TSC too if it follows suit. Anyhow OT, Bozeman sounds interesting, might check it out.

    And-or to keep things rolling.
There is enough to pick from, no need to buy the new stuff.
It is also Pro, might deter some people.
And while the livery is nice on the promo pic, it's just another F unit. If I ever end up buying it's about the route.
Still about 400 owned DLC to play, though. Current pace (below) 8 per year, sounds like 50 years, I'll die sooner.

Bozeman isn't that great. Terrible rolling stock from DTM. Just please don't touch it.

That dlc is NOT anywhere near Pro-Range. They just slapped a sticker on it so people would buy it without question.

For me it is all about the route. I can always switch rolling stock. There is no other way to acquire the route.

The whole point of the sticker is to indicate that the dlc has advanced functionality that standard TSC dlc doesn't have. Hence why I said it wasn't Pro Range.

Yeah, terrible. And honestly, when you see High Iron Simulations listed as the developer on the steam store page of any TSC dlc, it's an easy indicator that it's more trouble than it's worth.

So you purchased it? Steam reviews are 2 bad (1 being Schnauzahpowahz who thinks too much of himself) and 11 good. Even Spikee suggested it was Recommended. If you haven't bought it then you should NOT be giving it negative press.

It's not perfect but it's not as bad as painted either. They have done a real good job on the, what is secondary to the main route, Milwaukee lines out of Three Forks such that with a bit of imagination they can be used and this was (until the Pipestone Pass release) the only piece of Milwaukee Road in the game. This could have been left as stub tracks to portals.

But both negative reviews are the most helpful, so what do you do?

Go with the most helpful reviews or go with the majority? And some of the positive reviews accounts barely do any reviews themselves?

At this point you are best in using the steam refund window to figure it out yourself.

"1 being Schnauzahpowahz who thinks too much of himself"
You can't be serious right? You just can't be serious. You know, one thing I've noticed is that people seem to take offense to Schnauzahpowahz criticizing lackluster dlc for TSC. Like, why take offense to criticism that's not even directed at you and is justified, due to the nature of a lot of US dlc for TSC? I find that to be a little odd, considering that he gives credit where credit is due.

I highly respect him and other people who provide criticism for TSC content, because some dlc, especially a lot of US content on the steam store, simply isn't worth the price tag. You can't just recycle assets, slap fresh paint on them, and call advertise them as something extraordinary when they're the same slop that's been regurgitated for God knows how long. I don't respect people who are willing to defend low-quality cash grab dlc, while wrongfully criticizing people who just want content to be of higher quality and not the same re-released LOVE every damn time. I don't get along with shills, especially when they know darn well that the developers they're shilling for, can't even bother to improve their dlc and would rather make money of their gullible customers.

"Steam reviews are 2 bad (1 being Schnauzahpowahz who thinks too much of himself) and 11 good."
Oh wow, 11 positive reviews, that's wonderful. However, those reviews are from people who have no taste, no understanding of quality over quantity. And 11 positive reviews are supposed to mean something to me? Jeez, in that case, I should have left a positive review of Operation Harsh Doorstop. And Spikee? I'm sorry, I miss the part where I was supposed to be convinced that the dlc is good because "Spikee said so." You know how many idiots buy a Pro Range locomotive addon and leave negative reviews because they didn't bother to read the darn manual?

You can't say "look at all those positive reviews" and expect me to agree with them. I don't care about the 11 positive reviews that the dlc got. It doesn't change the fact that it wasn't as good as claimed. It's just the same re-released nonsense that we get year after year. It's like Saw. First movie comes out, awesome. Sequel comes out, it's wonderful. Third sequel comes out, it's great. Fourth sequel comes out, it's fine. Fifth sequel comes out, it's okay. Sixth sequel comes out, it's meh. Seventh sequel comes out, it's boring and repetitive. No substance to keep me glued to the TV. See how that works?

I wouldn't have anything negative to say if HIS and DTM actually improved the quality of their content. But they don't, so I end up having plenty to say. Same with other people, like Sean. Improve your dlc, and there won't be anything to criticize. If JointedRail, Searchlight Simulations, MachineRail, Reppo and Diesel Workshop can make quality content, then there's nothing wrong with HIS and DTM. They just chose not to because they don't care, they just prefer to re-release the same garbage every time.

Thank you, finally. I just can't understand why people chose to defend low quality cash grabs and hate on people who just want things to improve. It just goes to show that shills don't want anything to improve, they want to be feed the same slop every single day. They don't want to try eating real food, they want to keep eating garbage, because in their minds, garbage tastes better than real food.

And what exactly do you bring to the party? Anyone who adds to the US rail network I am interested in. I don’t care for rolling stock.
So you don’t respect me. You think I care. Everyone has their opinion. I am happy to see the new assets that HIS bring ( that being the rail network- not the rolling stock). That is why I pay the money!

I bring beef to the dinner table. But let me break this down in case I somehow manage to offend you.

"So you don’t respect me. You think I care. Everyone has their opinion."
I mean, you're outing yourself as one of those HIS feat. DTM zombies that mindlessly purchases every HIS and DTM product that comes out with how defensive you're getting. Also, you act like I'm expecting you to care about my opinions and where I stand. I never expect anyone to care about my opinions. I'd like my opinions to be taken into consideration, but I'm not going to beg or plead with anyone to take them into consideration. On top of that, everyone does have their opinions, I'm just sharing mine along with speaking facts.

"I am happy to see the new assets that HIS bring ( that being the rail network- not the rolling stock)"
That is perfectly fine. I'm not saying that HIS doesn't have some skill when it comes to route development. There are just two problems. The first problem I have is Saluda Grade, specifically the lack of realistic functioning of the safety system for Melrose. I find it hard to believe that HIS couldn't dedicate the time and money into adding this advanced behavior to that portion of the route, yet somehow the route gets slapped with a Pro Range sticker despite having nothing Pro about it.

"In later years, CTC signaling was installed along with automated switches and timer circuits for the one remaining runaway safety track at the bottom of the grade at Melrose. Trains running downgrade were required to travel no faster than 8 miles per hour (13 km/h) when approaching the runaway track switch. This would allow a timer circuit to determine if the train was under control, in which case the switch from the runaway track at Melrose would be aligned to the mainline. But for speeds greater than 8 miles per hour (13 km/h) the switch would remain aligned for the runaway track."

This functionality could have been implemented into the route for the grade, yet it wasn't even though it was definitely achievable.

The second issue I have with HIS dlc is Feather River Canyon Enhanced. The same route, with an additional 30 miles and terrible rolling stock... for $39.99 pre-tax. That extra 30 miles of trackage could have just been a route extension dlc for 19.99 pre-tax and the rolling stock being included in a Feather River Canyon Retro Pack for 24.99 pre-tax. There really isn't even anything enhanced about the route any way.

"That is why I pay the money!"
That right there is the issue. You're spending money for buying the route when the rolling stock comes with it. 39.99 Pre-tax, for terrible rolling stock and a route that barely looks enhanced, and has 30 extra miles of trackage, when it could have been broken down into two separate dlcs. It's your money yes. You do what makes you happy, however it doesn't change the fact that you're part of the problem.

OK, NOW you age getting PERSONAL! There are many types of players using TSC. It just so happens that I do not value the same things as you do. That is fine in itself. If I like these routes because I like the geographical features rather than the actual rolling stock THAT is MY prerogative. You are stating that I am part of the problem. I disagree as I am purchasing what I like. I can always swap out the loco for something else. If one is focusing on US Rolling Stock then maybe Run 8 is the best direction to go. If one is looking for long routes across multiple landscapes then currently there is no better source than TSC. We each have our own reasons for playing TSC.

You're free to disagree as much as you like. And technically, Run 8 takes the crown in terms of route length.

In the US - Run 8 takes the crown in terms of route length yes - not elsewhere. There is a whole plethora of routes in the UK and Europe. I live in the USA ,however, my roots are in the UK and Europe so I like to collect geography from both areas. I have personally travelled 49 of the US states mainly by RV so I have a great love for the US countryside. I also happen to be an engineer who has spent most of my professional life in the diesel engine business so I do have an appreciation for mechanical/electrical devices. The challenge here is that TSC is no longer 'flavor of the month' and most quality TSC product is no longer sourced via Steam. The product is waning with no apparent strategic direction coming from DTG. Available TSC products on Steam are slim pickings and anything that expands the rail footprint for me is a positive. I am oblivious to any branding which states 'Pro Range' as I have already mentioned I acquire the routes not the rolling stock.
    Take care!
