On the Great Western Mainline I can't seem to get past the final signal before Platform 5 at Reading (heading towards London), even when there is no train in front. The signal remains red and when you request permission to pass it at danger the little window on the screen says 'permission to pass signal at danger approved' yet I can't seem to pass it without getting an emergency brake application. Initially I thought this was due to a signal bug with the route (I have made 5 scenarios for the GWML and 2 or 3 of them had problems with the signals), however I noticed there was a TPWS grid in line with the signal and I have previously been told that some routes for TS including the GWML have active TPWS and if you go over a TPWS grid at a certain speed you can get emergency brake application. So is this actually happening due to a signal bug or for some other reason?
Isolate the TPWS before passing the signal at danger as per the real thing, if you do it properly you should get the yellow "temporary isolation.fault" light.
The TPWS Magnets will put you in to Emergency if you pass a signal a Danger. That is the way the work in real life. For slow speed moves you can Isolate it to pass a signal at Danger, but I don't think you can do it in the game. In real life TPWS magnets will apply the brakes if over speeding or approaching buffer stops above a set speed. How do you do that? I have not seen any setting to isolate it - just checked the AP HST manual and nothing there
It's in the HST on TS Classic not the AP version. Also the signal block is clear as the message on screen says approved, but the brakes still come on, that's what made me think it was caused by the TPWS.
Reaction to TPWS grids seems to be hard wired into the core. You can even get tripped by TPWS in a loco or unit that doesn't have TPWS fitted so I'd also like to know how to isolate it.
AFAIK you cannot isolate them in the train. The only way to stop the TPWS Grids from making a brake application is to remove them from the route.
I don't know how it can be done either. I was hoping for a response from opswintercourse whose post above suggests it is possible.
Does the signal also have ground signals/shunt signals attached to it? If so, once you have the permission to pass at danger, you still need to wait for the 2 white ground/shunt signal lights to appear. If you pass before they change, you will get emergency braked.
I've just had a look and it looks like this, except it stays red and has a TPWS ramp pretty much in line with it.
I don't remember that signal faulty, so what I'd recommend is start the scenario a bit earlier: shunt to place, pick passengers, move on. It's the stopper track, right? On the left hand side of the platform, 1-4 being the main. Some signals have a tendency to remain locked when loading fresh, good old NEC at Trenton is an example. That said, you aren't using the beta, are you?
Not sure what you mean by the stopper track. Reading Platform 5 is one of the mainline platforms as far as I'm aware, used by fast services heading towards London Paddington.
