anyone still using the lirr. I still have it just seem to be taking up some space. I have the updated lirr. I know it up to me. I figure if I uninstall it I won’t be able to see the particular traffic in the updated version. I mean the M7. What is your idea on that. I am wondering if I should uninstall it for more space or keep it.
I keep it installed so I can see the LIRR traffic on Trenton. - Also for the M3 on the new route. The M7 is included in LIRR 2.0 I think
Ok that what I thought. Well I’m gonna keep it there as well for I can have that same type of traffic. I’ll add more space
No, I removed both the old and new version to free up disc space. The reasoning has been discussed to death but I just couldn't take having to concentrate almost entirely on the safety systems and not enjoy the drive and scenery.
I still have have both installed. Original is needed for NYT LIRR AI at Penn and M3. LIRR2 DLC. what can I say. The busiest US route in the game and one of my favorite which I play regularly.
I do too. It all depends if you play it on PC and Xbox X seems to play good. Xbox series S and PlayStation seems to have issues with this route
You don't need the old route installed for the M3 to show up in the new route. The M3 DLC is sufficient. Sounds strange because, as an old DLC, the M3 was originally tied to the old route, but that's the way it is. With NY-Trenton, it is a different story, sadly.
LIRR 2 is probably a top 5 personal favorite U.S route of mine. This is actually the only route I can play without the hud on and it actually be fun because it’s very simple to drive. Brandon and Joe did such good job on this route and it’s shows that when playing it.
I personally don't have issues with the route on PS5, this route is my home route(It's one of my favorites). I only had ONE crash up that's it. Other than that it's been a blast
Yes, it's a favorite of mine too. I much prefer the New York routes, LIRR2, Harlem and NY- Trenton to the Metrolink lines. Single track running has a very limited appeal for me.
I love LIRR 2 too, especially the M7 and its sounds. I don't mind the mandatory safety systems because I always have them activated on all the routes, and Brandon did a great job with the implementation and it's a pleasure to race here and have to be totally focused. It's very immersive! And responding to the OP, yes, I have the original LIRR installed for the NYT layers but I never play there anymore because it is so inferior to its successor. The only bad thing is that when I'm around the Sunnyside yard area in NYT I find it pitiful after seeing it totally remodeled in LIRR 2, and it kills the experience for me.
My only gripe for LIRR2 is you can really tell the difference between the old LIRR and the Long Beach branch. Nostrand avenue has that TSW 2 era look to it and wish Dovetail had at least upgraded the far way scenery along the section between Jamaica and Hicksville.
I won’t buy it until they make the safety systems optional. Nor any future route that makes this mandatory.
I think this is one of the best routes in the game. Be mad to miss out on this. Fantastic service patterns A tremendous network Great parallel running 3, 7 and the 9 are a blast to drive. If you're a lover of busy routes this is one I'd use my last kb for
cActUsjUiCe you nailed it on this route! do you have any update (or requests) for NY-Trenton rework? junior hornet it really isn't too hard to drive with those safety systems on, especially with the automatic braking of ATC
If they where to do a NY - Trenton rework, I’d rather they wait until they could get a septa license then go down to Philadelphia and then have Brandon work on signaling because he does a really good job
LIRR 2024 crashed for me outside Jamaica yesterday in my stream, heavy rain, loads of trains and the PS5 went nope when I went into photo mode. Yes havingthe safeties on is a complete PITA but if thats how it must be done then so be it. Gotta learn the safeties I guess. Hentis
The safeties are quite simple to grasp in normal weather conditions. In wheel slip conditions you have to be more knowledgeable of the territory.
Exactly. I don't really understand why people get so worked up about LIRR safety systems. They are very easy to learn and work with, certainly compared with the German XZB systems, which I find unfathomable. Actually I like playing with US safeties like ATC/ACSES. I wish DTG would learn to model PTC, which is the standard these days.
From what I've been seeing here on the forums, the main reason people oppose the safety systems on LIRR is because they feel like the penalty applications due to speed limit drops are actual penalties. Many people keep complaining like "how am I supposed to know to slow down in advance?" and stuff like that, not understanding that this is simply how the system works. Though sure, it is less relaxing that the majority of other routes. On a german route you mainly acknowledge PZB and slow down nicely. On british routes you slow down as you see a signal. This ATC however keeps screaming and beeping at you, sometimes even starts braking for you quite harshly. I suppose it can make you feel like you are doing something wrong, which turn many people off. Personally I don't mind, as I try to play with safeties on all the time anyways. And after years of playing on the old LIRR, it is very nice to have a system that finally works. It's just a shame the M3 doesn't have it.
Yeah you aren't being penalized, nor are you necessarily doing anything wrong. The LIRR has very aggressive signal progressions that require quick braking. With route knowledge you can anticipate many of the speed drops, but not all.
Interesting. This shows how propaganda works. Most players naturally avoid this route due to its strict limitations. Instead of relaxing and enjoying the simulator, the beauty of the map, and so on, the player is forced to strictly monitor the speed limits, leaving no time for anything else. In the end, we forget that it's just a game. One person pointed this out, and immediately a dozen others rushed to refute him. It really is a beautiful map with well-recreated trains. But most people don’t need this level of realism. They have enough challenges in real life, and they use the simulator precisely to unwind.
Is there a diagram/PDF or something that shows the common speed drops? Maybe something like that would help mitigate a lot of the complaints about the safety system if we know in advance where they are (the in game HUD is useless in this regard).
As mentioned before is mostly route knowledge. Once you learn the route you anticipate the speed drops. The progressions are pretty much the same. LIRR2 is one of my favorite routes in the game. Signals, safety systems , and the busiest US TT to date. Actually when you take a deep dive into this route it has the most branches, most end to end services, and varied TT in the game. My biggest issue with it is the passengers which to be fair is a common issue with most routes.
