This is one of the busiest (if not the busiest, besides Westbahn corridors to St. Polten / Salzburg) rail lines in all of Austria... Vienna is actually connected to Wiener Neustadt with three lines (+ Badner Bahn which is tram-train local service):

    1) Wien - Wiener Neustadt mainline via Modling and Baden (vmax 160 kph)
Used by all kinds of services from S-Bahn all stopping to RailJets (and CJX 9, which usually continues to either Payerbach-Reichenau or Murzzuschlag)... in foreseeable future, OBB plans to extend the portion to Modling to 6 tracks, insane :)

    2) Wien - Wiener Neustadt mainline via Pottendorf aka Pottendorfer Linie (modernized and still undergoing some construction; when all is done, vmax should be 200 kph)
Used by S60 (Bruck an der Leitha - Wien Hbf, then at Meidling it turns towards Wien Blumental and continues on modernized line) line to Wiener Neustadt, as well as some REX6 services to Deutschkreutz, as well as some services to Wulkaprodersdorf, Eisenstadt and Hungary

    3) Wien - Traiskirchen Aspangbahn / Traiskirchen Aspangbahn - Wiener Neustadt (branch line, joins the mainline near Sollenau; speeds are generally pretty low, but once it joins mainline, it is 120 kph)
This line is kinda fragmented, probably to enable better frequency, as a lot of it is single track... you cant buy a single ticket from Wien to Wiener Neustadt via this route, you have to actually buy two - one to Traiskirchen and the other to Wiener Neustadt... at Traiskirchen Aspangbahn station, you get off one 5047, walk across the "platform" to the other 5047 waiting there... if you aim to get from Wien to Wiener Neustadt, there are more practical ways, but for railfans and as a joyride, it is very enjoyable :) ... serves mainly smaller communities and at some sections it uses mainly driver's eyesight instead of any signalling :D

    Rolling stock:

The services frequency is INSANE - pretty much no waiting time as there is always a train in either direction, with even more services planned

The most asset-heavy part would be Vienna, of course, and some parts of mainline and Aspangbahn, as Pottendorfer Linie is mostly on elevated tracks :)

I would be besides myself if even one of the mainlines got made, and in 70th railway heaven if all three... as for Wien Stammstrecke, it would be enough if they did what I call "belt" section between Hauptbahnhof and Meidling, with Kledering to the east and Meidling - Liesing "branch" to the south (+ Inzersdorf + Blumental to the south-east)

    Pls, DTG, please :)))

If you own this one with Semmeringbahn you can go from Mürzzuschlag Wiener Neustadt Wien Hbf by hopping at Wiener Neustadt. Looking at the nightjet that runs on this route it has a 1216

sometimes they also use other Taurus subtypes, sometimes Vectrons, and for some even 1144s... as for lets say CJX9, I often see it either at Hbf or at Praterstern, usually made up of 2x Desiro MLs

I mean, we need realistic CJX9 on Semmeringbahn :D ... that beast pelts it out at 160 where it can, not some measly, peasant 140 lol

as for Pottendorfer Linie, havent yet taken a joyride there this year - last year most trains were limited to 140 there due to numerous construction sites still active... atm the whole thing should be done, maybe except the big yard at Wampersdorf
