I have been happily cooking files in TSW4 for over a year now as I try and build my Formations and Extra Paths mods. (see links in signature). Recently I have purchased TSW5 as I was curious to see if my mods would work automatically in it. However an unexpected consequence of doing this is that I appear to have lost the ability to cook successfully in TSW4. Initially I noticed that I would get a string of error messages when I opened the editor but these would vanish if I also opened TSW4 and synced the two. My Cook button is present and the Cook process seems to run through OK and I often get the "Cooking Successful" message at the end. Then, when I go into my files, the Saved folder has been created and the appropriate folder structure is in place however the file I actually want to see, in this case "ScenarioDesigner", is not present. One thing that I should point out is that I haven't upgraded my Unofficial Editor to TSW5. (I am reluctant to do this at the moment as I don't want to lose any of the work that I have done already). So my question is "Does installing TSW5 affect the use of the TSW4 Unofficial Editor in TSW4?" Thanks.
First things first, wording "Unofficial Editor": As I read your post it seems you confuse the Public Editors for TSW4 and TSW5 with the real Unofficial Editor for TSW3, right? Yes, this is normal because TSW4 PC Editor requires you to launch TSW4 before. If you launch TSW5 and then go to open TSW4 PC Editor, this won't work. In the same way, you need to launch TSW5 once if you want run TSW5 PC Editor but played with TSW4 at last. Not sure why this is happening. I once had the case in TSW5 PC Editor that I wanted to cook a half-cooked DTG asset and in the Saved folder there was not the modified file I wanted to cook, but that's a completely different issue than you have I think. There are types of mods which will work in TSW5 even though cooked in TSW4 PC Editor, I'm not quite sure how Scenario creation works with that but it should work. However, you should better work with the TSW5 PC Editor if you focus on creating mods for TSW5. As far as I know, No it shouldn't.
Hi Robert, Thanks for your reply. So far I have managed to get my mods running in 3 routes in TSW5. (The latest being GOBLIN). So I am reasonably certain my process in creating them is right. (See below). I must have cooked the same type of file over 100 times now with no real issues however this is the first time I have come up with this error. So it is very puzzling. Mind you I have just realised that the route I am have trouble with (BCC) is not one that I have played about with for over 9 months. Maybe the issue is route related? I'll try creating another file on another route and see what happens.
Ended up deleting my BCC file and re-installing the TSW4 Editor. At the moment everything seems to be back to normal. For instance I have now managed to bring the WCML into Scenario Editor for TSW4 at Lichfield Trent Valley. However I will now have to recreate all the other paths that I had previously built and have now deleted.
Nope I was wrong I think things have been corrupted by my installation of TSW5. I have tried cooking my Class 66 formations mod, a file that has been cooked successfully many times before. Once again it appears to cook successfully (see below). But the cooked file doesn't appear. So I can't pack it up. (Only Metadata and Asset Registry). There should be a Formations folder here. However I can't help but notice that the Output Log is referencing lots of files from TSW5 even though this is the TSW4 Unofficial Editor that has been synced with TSW4 and according to the Contents list has no TSW5 files present. (see some examples below). All files being cooked were originally created in TSW4. And Does anyone have any clue what might have happened here. The error is exactly the same as I highlighted about BCC in my first post (although that was a Paths mod). This is a Class66 Formations mod so I don't know why there are references to TSW5 items in the Output log? Note, in both cases, I always get the Cooking Sucessful message, the files structure gets correctly constructed in my Plug In Saved folder but no actual file appears for me to package up. I'm sure my upgrade to TSW5 has something to do with it. Very annoying to say the least !!! Perhaps trainsimcz will read this and give me some pointers?
Mind you as I am now stuck with my CL66 mod then, maybe, I should put up a screenshot with one of these formations running? (Class 323 emu waiting for an oil train to clear the points so that it can enter the stabling siding at Lichfield City).
So I'm currently testing to cook some plugins/mods via the TSW5 PC Editor native cooking functionality (without trainsimcz's cooking mod), and after a reinstall of the TSW5 PC Editor, I'm experiencing the same issue as you David, although my plugins all were created in the TSW5 PC Editor. So you're not alone and it seems to even reflect here. Hmmm, what can cause this issue? Did a recent patch messed up the Editor again? Needs more investigation. I might try to reinstall TSW5 later on and see what happens.
What's interesting for me is that the original file that wouldn't cook (a paths file for BCC) now will. However it is not the original file but a new version that I created today, after deleting the original, that cooks. I don't want to do the same thing with my formations mod as that has 880 different formations that would then have to be recreated. (Trust me that would take a very long time). So I am assuming, in my case, the problem is something to do with my files. But I can't see what it could be. Also I can't see where a formations mod in TSW4 would pick up a link to TSW5 route files??? Most odd.
