Today was the day we got the release date for Sporlijn Zwolle to Groningen and i have seen the option to preorder an upcoming route, thats also made by DTG, have been missing for a pretty long time now. Why is this so? To make more money of a route? I could think about peoples decission to buy a new dlc could stand or fall with it having a preorder discount, so more money most likely wont be it, i guess? I think i can speak for more people that a comeback of preorders would be welcome. I know its "not much" of a difference, but i already have a better feeling to spend 2 bucks less on a dlc, even tough it might be a psychological thingy.
It's certainly a good question. I can't remember the last route to have a pre-release purchase discount. They should certainly have done it with Cardiff and by more than 5%, too. Maybe Focus Entertainment told them to stop the practice.
Wait a year and you'll get a 70% discount! I now make it a rule to never buy TSW/TSC DLC until it's at least 40% reduced. If I have to wait, I have to wait. I've got a big enough collection already.
l agree, that there are so many Steam sales wait for a sale. Unfortunately l am on 8th gen Xbox one and there are few sales, still there are ways on xbox to get a discount.
I think they changed the 10% pre-order discount for the very early 10%+ discount most DLCs get in the first or second sale (for Steam users that is 1 or 2 months after release).
Pretty much feel the same way as you do. DLC is way too expensive now and the price doesn’t justify the content being sold. I don’t know if it’s me, but I feel we are getting way less for our money now. The only routes I’ve bought at full price on day one in the last six months are Preston to Carlisle and Mildmay line. I tend to wait for the sales too. I was really disappointed not to see salzburg rosenheim or semmeringbahn on PSN discounted, as I’ve been very patient waiting for these routes to drop in price. Maybe one day though in the near distant future
And now we have the Dutch route coming in at £33. With these prices for a single route DLC nudging what you would pay for a complete AAA game, IMHO DTG do need to start bringing in some incentives for immediate purchase. A 10% discount on the Dutch route would bring it down to the “normal” (but still expensive) £30. Or maybe it’s time they started adding real rewards to mastery, particularly the monthly challenge with money off vouchers for completing the tasks.
Agree with you there but whi is gonna buy new routes when core game is in such bad state and not getting better.
This is the point. You probably saw Chris’ response in the Troubleshooting forum that pretty much made it clear they have hit a bit of a wall where the stutters and sound glitching is concerned. From that I take away they don’t have any coders sufficiently au fait with UE4 or how it’s been adapted to TSW to sort through the spaghetti and untangle it!
If you don’t want to pay the asking price you will get these new routes next year at up to 80% off. If you don’t want to wait pay the asking price. I will.
So my decission is to buy the route. The reasons why i choose to pay the full 40 bucks is quite simple. 1. The route wont be on a big sale within at least a year, because the expensive stuff going around 40 bucks had way more work put in (look at WCMLOS or 101 Expert), so a 50 percent off would take more than a year. 2. The following argument made my decission to buy it. I rather spend 20 bucks more on a route i really want, than to wait a year until it is on sale for not even 30 percent. I know not everyone can spend theire money like that (me mostly included), so i also wait for a big sale on for example Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn. Thats because, for more than obvious reasons, the route isnt worth the full price.
I would also like a return of preorders... just so I can pay for it and when it releases it can install lets say while I am at work and can fire it off when I get home ... cos like now it is like this - a DLC releases, I get home, pay for it, and since our wifi is like 45 Mbps (I know, sucks) it takes quite a while to download, and only then I can play :P
That’s not strictly true, certainly on PC/Steam there was never any preload for advance purchase content. You still had to trigger the download on the release date and time.
Maybe the figures for day one purchases at full price outweigh the pre orders. Or maybe it was just deemed unfair. Will we ever see preorders again I wonder.
I remember I could preorder stuff, at least the core versions for sure... like yeah, had to trigger that, but it was already in the library, so just click and there you go, more convenient
I've never understood pre-orders for digital only stuff. There's infinite supply. Are you all really so impatient that you have to have the new thing right now rather than in 10 minutes?
Only if there’s a discount for doing so, which I think that is what people are asking about. Sadly it seems the latest price hikes for content have gone hand in hand with the withdrawal of said offers.
for me it is more like a bookmark like "hey, new DLC is out, just click and install" ... so it is more like a nice convenience ... the preorder not being a thing means that if I want sth day one, I have to hunt for it, check regularly if the listing on Steam is active and such... sometimes I have to exit Steam and start it again for it to appear... then pay, waaaait for download and play... would be nicer if I could pay in advance, then have it preload, so I can play when I get home and such
Wow you are lucky. I live in the wilds of the country my speed is 2.4Mbps, or 2.7Mbps if l run a long ethernet cable. If it’s available at 6pm on Steam, it takes all night to download and install. After the purchase of TSW5 and installing all my content took over a week!!!
45 Mbps is on wifi... the internet company upgraded the speed but only if you plug the cable into the router... got two cables available, and I could fit it under my door, but unfortunately the cable would cross the area where flatmates go into the kitchen and they can be clumsy lol ... otherwise I would have like 200 Mbps ... but even on 45 Mbps, it takes ages... like, I would turn on TSW5 download (when transitioning from TSW4) when I went to sleep at like 2 am lol and it would be finishing the download when I got back from work at like ehm, 10pm? one of the only things I really miss from my old place is the 300 Mbps internet ... made reinstalling DOOM 2016 a breeze back in the day
