Is it bad an Executive Producer hasn't been interacting with the community since December 23rd? Just hope they have all watched this thread and took in all the comments and feedback we inputted.
Because they would have to come to some sort of agreement with TSG/JT and share profits with them or pay them upfront for using assets. That would mean less money for Rivet. You can sit down, make a route look really nice and license other peoples assets to make it even better. But that wont make as much money, as if you keep reusing the same old assets and churning out DLC fast with no care. It´s all about money at the end of the day, not about passion. If you want passion, look to older games like TSC... the enthuiast have all gathered there. TSW is the big cash cow. The "I want to make a living with this game" crowd will keep doing, what they are doing.
Well we don’t know exactly why he stopped looking at the forums and I’m reluctant to indulge in anything that could be regarded as a personal slight. However if you are the head honcho of a business franchise, then keeping abreast of the customer feedback even if some of it might be unsavoury or makes you feel unappreciated, is part of the job description. Of course, no one is expecting Matt to be participating in each and every thread either, I would rather he is sorting the game out and motivating the coders and developers to be the best they can be. However, that’s where IMHO the Community Managers should be having a much greater presence on the forums. If you look at other official forums like Egosoft, or SCS the CM’s are in the threads and getting to grips with what players are saying. Not just making pre scripted announcements or telling people to take it down when the conversation starts getting loud.
Totally agree. No personal slights, we give constructive feedback to the companies producing DLC when its needed. I do miss the interactions though.
There have been personal slights towards DTG staff including Matt in the past, whether that has anything to do with it, who knows.
True and those personal slights are inappropriate. Can't say I blame someone for choosing not to listen to them. However, if you're the one calling the shots in a business, you need a very thick skin. I've been there. Truth be told though, I don't really care whether the DTG staff are involved in the forum. They may say that they read and listen to what's said, criticised and suggested here, but there's little evidence that they act on it or even respond unless it's some gushing compliment or something to do with collectibles, points or achievements. Then they're all over it. But then just re-read the QA answer posts which ignore all but the most innocuous questions. We do, however need moderators to keep a lid on some of the nastier elements and trolls.
Agree on the personal insults and attacks being out of bounds- i think the mods here do ok on that front. Tbf i much prefer this forum to SCS, which imo is wayyy too strict about going OT, for example, even though it's not a particularly busy forum overall. I don't blame the devs for being quiet tbh- they're never going to make people happy with words. The work will speak for itself either way imo.
Never said I was going to pay full price, just that the high price tag was to be expected. But so what? It's my money, I'll spend it how I want. I've got other TSW content I want first, and other things in real life that take priority anyway. This DLC is far down the list.
Oh yes, you get a warning for quoting a post in your reply if it's the one immediately above your response!
I have the cab ride for the Coryton Branch etc. So useful for route building! Maybe they can take a leaf out of everyone else’s book!
Just thinking about what were being said on the last page, I think the inclusion of the 142 from BPO, updated of course, in this route may have swayed me into a purchase more imminently, however the subpar 150/2 and the bang standard (as far as I can tell from the stream) 153 just don't quite sell the route by themselves.
MegaSim has got two videos coming out tomorrow, showcasing the 150 and 153.. not sure about anyone else.
Actually, I wasn’t trying to belittle anyone on their financial decisions. I had made that comment to say, we can complain all day but DTG will still get paid at the end of the day.
To answer an earlier question about the accuracy of the cab of the 150… IMO - it’s decent. BUT, there is something about the outside model that feels… off… can’t put my finger on it, though.
British Ace seems ok. I’ve not found his opinions overly biased. But I’ve not watched a whole lot of him recently. Richy Rail (I know he wasn’t mentioned) on the other hand… he seems to have somewhat biased views. But happy to be wrong about him. His videos are fine and engaging.
Dadrail has a video premiering in about 11 hours time. Haven’t watched him in a couple years so don’t know how balanced his views are these days. richy rail - a separate channel - doesn’t appear to have a premier, but does often review new routes. I’ve not noticed him point out any flaws, or have what you would call balanced views. But that could just be me.
Noticed TinTin_57 has a preview at 10am too. Not sure how impartial he is - anyone able to shed light on his videos?
For me Richy Rail and Tin Tin tend to be less critical, and less keen to call out poor work. British Ace is pretty balanced, and Dad Rail seems to do less on the Ambassador front. When he does, he's always very honest and points out all the flaws. Don't watch the others so can't comment!
Just watching British ace now… he did call out the lack of guard buzzer, so far so good in terms of balanced he is. Will watch the rest of his video as and when I can. 153 buzzer sounds weird - won’t lie.
Nitpicking here maybe - as a guard when I’m closing the local door on a 153, the hustle alarm doesn’t sound; but it does in game. That’s going to annoy me slightly not unplayable for most of course.
I find all the ‘ambassadors’ are generally reluctant to call out any issues with the routes - I mean you are not going to bite the hand that feeds you are you? They all seem to have their own agenda regarding certain features they want to see but I’ve never seen any of them call out DTG for issues that are clearly obvious to the paying punter! I have given up on watching their ‘first look’ videos and now wait on an ordinary punters opinion - when you’ve spent your own hard-earned on anything I find the review more objective.
He used to be my ‘goto’ but every review video is the same MO so I dont sub to him anymore. The others mentioned are just yes men imo
Noticed that with RichyRail… I remember seeing one of his videos on TSC and he didn’t know how to tell which signal would be what colour without the HUD…. So… take that how you will… British ace did just say he’d have liked to have seen Barry island too.
Wasn’t really reading the chat. Literally didn’t acknowledge any viewer’s opinions etc…update wasn’t aware premieres were pre-recorded
British Ace is pretty good at not selling anything, he is pretty impartial and is happy to pick fault when justified. He seems to encounter the same recurring frustrations with (it's not our problem if we call it) Core Issues. TrainSimTV also does good content where issues are not glossed over.
I tend to watch the streams to see for myself how good a route looks. Not for a critique of the ambassadors!
Personally I'm the same, however it's sometimes hard to look past their simpering praise of a route that is clearly with significant issues. This does happen.
I thought Dadrails video was fairly good (noticed the horrible hedges too) although the Coryton branch he did was one of those areas with better scenery (Apart from Whitchurch ). He also found TPWS didn't work at the end of the line station and mentioned Cardiff was a bit dead.
Coryton has quite overgrown vegetation in the 4ft and cess. That’s what’s frustrating here. The route is BRILLIANT in some places and so poor in others…
yeah I am still dissatisfied with the class 150/2 reworked sounds yeah right doesn't sound reworked to me
Just watched TheBritishAce stream. Yep, agreed Coryton branch is the standout! In an area where the scenery is quite generic apart from the Cardiff Central area, the branch is really nice. 153 sounds again, notch 1-2 just seem to be at idle and notch 3 basically cuts out at 5mph.
Watching one of British Ace’s previews and he encountered a signal that required him to close the doors to pass, I’m not sure why DTG or whoever made the timetable is still making it work this way when we’ve known since the Bakerloo release this isn’t correct behaviour, sad
I’d just like to add my two cents regarding my reviews. I am by no means an expert so some things that may be wrong I don’t notice or am not aware of! I like to see myself as more of a casual rail fan who enjoys being about to drive trains in a game and learn along the way! That being said, if I see something that doesn’t look right I often acknowledge it! With respect to the TSC content you may have seen from me, I’m quite new to TSC and I’m still getting used to keyboard controls. I’m a console player at heart so take that as you will!
Editing my message because of typos…. Fair enough Richy - In no means was this this meant as disrespectful in any way. Feel I need to clarify that as I wouldn’t call my written communication a strong point! I do appreciate the acknowledgement, though. Personally happy to be proven wrong with opinions too - I do still watch your content, even if I don’t agree with how you cover reviews. Said earlier that I do find your videos more engaging.
