This whole business of who made what in which route is, to me at least, a guessing game. When we review or buy a dlc none of us really knows who's fingers are in the pie. in the case of UK routes I would take DTG at Its word, viz: " we work with several developers. " For all we know, any one or more of the studios currently working with DTG could have contributed to this or that route. You can say you see the DNA of a particular studio in a route, but you really don't know. There might not be a single route in the entire TSW catalog that is the work exclusively of one studio. So I think this discussion should end and we should all buy or not buy based on quality and price rather than who we think built what.
Agreed, for all we know Rivet had a part in the Gospel Oak to Barking Suffragette line and everyone sings the praises of that! However, the timetable is undoubtedly a Rivet timetable! Not the sort we’d see from Joe from DTG.
It doesn't matter who did what on the scenery. But as has been said a lot some of the buildings and just the lack of detail in places is the issue despite who did it. But it does look like it's been done by two different teams? Some of it is beautiful and other bits just suffer a bit
Several developers….3 I believe…153 - DTG everything else was Rivet with the exception of the clag which has been imported from Just Trains!
I woke up this morning feeling tempted, then remembered 1. It’s 30 quid and 2. Done a few too many refunds on Steam lately so, no, it can wait for a sale.
Going to grab this around 5pm later. (Got a long day at college today.) Will share my initial thoughts here and report bugs in the feedback threads. Any screenshots or anything you wanna see before you buy. Lmk and I'll post here.
A honest assessment of the 150 sounds and physics vs. the original WCL version would be appreciated by many.
I think it would be wrong for DTG to decide against network routes if this doesn't sell. There are many metrics that go into purchase decisions, especially with the rising cost of everything we need in our daily lives. For example. I love little networks but I'm not buying this one because; 1. Sorry Wales but I'm not that interested in Welsh routes as it's not a part of the country I get to visit very often. 2. I grew up with electric trains, unless it's a classic loco (37/40/52/55 for me) I don't really enjoy driving diesels. 3. I'm broke and being careful with my purchases at the moment. 4, The lukewarm reviews. As I said before, I'll pick it up in a sale at some point in the next few years but only for the Class 153 as I think it will end up layering-in on future routes' timetables.
You’d think dtg would get all their partners and devs in a room and rather than split routes to different parties actually work on all routes together utilising the strengths of each developer? So devs who are strong in timetables work on timetables for all routes. Devs strong at building stations and line side detail work in that. World builders would use their expertise to construct the map. Distant scenery would be done solely by those that are very good at it. Trains and locos built by those that produce the best. If you sorted that out every route would be stellar would it not and you’d have all round work for every partner.
I’m very much in a difficult situation to buy it or not. If they included like Barry Island Terminus and Aberdare? Like they did with BCC which was well worth the £30 but The amount of short cuts they done this route, the ‘I can’t be arsed’ mentally with the concourse and also the teleport to opposite platform which is just quite frankly unacceptable. AI timetable, surely you could have put a Tfw livery on the EMT 158. Just like Johannes did with the unbranded liveries. No Rail tours? It isn’t worth £30 in the slightest. £18 I say. Doesn’t deserve the £20. Not going to be paying for a route with tones of shortcuts.
You’re right Matt. Huge conflict. As I said earlier, part of me wants to thrash the 153 even if it’s just a bus stop service and not the Central Wales Line. Then the voice of reason kicks in and tells me not worth £30. The stupidity of DTG marketing is, had they pitched this at £25 then offered 10% off for prerelease purchase at £22.50, many of us would have given it a shot. But they got greedy…
Hi, If the 150/153s were to be reskinned into Northern or Regional Railways colours could they be used on the Blackpool and other routes? Thanks, James
Looks like a decent route tbh going by the recent streams/vids, nice network feel with plenty of playability, not a2b. A few adverse signals as well, always helps, approach control looks to be modelled which didn't appear in E2G/Fife (if Rivet made this route which is what a few folks believe). 153 looks like a fun unit to drive, had the brake rub sounds I think, which always adds to the feel of driving an old train (not to the level of openbve though). Tempted, but I think I'll hold out for the ATS route and get Cardiff in a few months.
I don't really know tbh. I assume you can just walk across the tracks. But it means they haven't modelled the tunnel leading to other platform if it is a tunnel ofc. CymruGiard Would know I think
OldVern I genuinely might have to get it and see for myself. Hate paying into products that don't deserve a £30 price tag but for the TfW Branding and 153 think I am gonna have to get it and be annoyed at myself! Can;t resist the urge!
The North West saw mainly 150/1’s rather than 150/2’s. Era wise the 153’s weren’t converted from 155’s until the latter were displaced from Western Provincial by the arrival of the 158’s in the early 90’s so would not have been seen on Blackpool or other 80’s based routes until much later.
Sorry guys just bought it. I couldn't resist I always wanted TfW in the game and the 153 and here we are. Have to test it out for myself and give honest feedback. At Least this time it is marked as a Dovetail route not a Rivet route so Dovetail have lots of responsibility on there side
I honestly feel ashamed ahaha. Temptation it was. But I will be brutal and constructive with my feedback.
Please don’t feel you have to apologise for buying TSW routes. If nobody buys them they’ll stop making them!
Cross City probably - nice route, well modelled loco, good scenery - but beware, Birmingham New Street is very empty
Hopefully by the time it goes live on Steam at 1800, we will know. Of course you do realise you have played straight into DTG’s “Dr Evil” who is now sitting there rubbing his hands going Muuugh uuuh ha, Muuugh Uuugh Ha, etc.
The way I see it is new releases will be full of bugs for a while, possibly forever. Older more established releases are less likely to suffer this issue (of course core issues will affect all), so I get the ones on sale and then wait for new releases to go on sale and hopefully by then they have had a few patches. Massively regret buying TSW5 straight away - there have been massive sales since, and the game was borderline unplayable originally due to performance.
So after pages and pages and pages of bashing Rivet / DTG and not paying £30, the usual if we don’t buy it DTG will get the message. People went and bought it anyway?! I am surprised as always! What a waste of time all that was! That’s not a dig, by the way. It’s good people have made up their mind based on a few more streams. I watched all four of TheBritishAce streams from yesterday. It was always Day One purchase for me (later on Steam) I have to say the ambassador streams always see to do these routes more justice than the initial DTG stream. I think it just proves that these ambassadors really are worth their weight in gold, sometimes. If people have had a change of heart, great? Just remember all this next time we do a Rivet bashing thread!
ok class 153/9 loaded has an issue on xbox series S the doors are locked had to go through the front to get in and theres no sound at all but the class 153/9 empty works fine ??? (spawning in free roam )
To answer your question. Yes you could just walk across the track, but you wouldnt do that IRL. there’s no barrow crossing to 0. whilst the subway is modelled, the concourse, which is required for foot access to 0 is not. The concourse isn’t exactly what you would call…. Massive. Especially compared to those already modelled in other dlcs.
It's possible they had to wrap it up and get it out before the end of the financial year. Quicker to implement a teleport than build a concourse.
It’s possible, yes. But doesn’t mean it should’ve happened. It also doesn’t excuse the “too much work” excuse. Or the “exciting feature” touted by some.
I can understand that some people buckled - but this is still a sale purchase for me based on what I’ve seen. I’m adamant on that. Unless it’s updated in the meantime.
