Thinking the same here. Just on what’s been reported so far from the console versions, our suspicions are being confirmed. This was rushed through to beat the end of the fiscal year, with minimal QA and testing (or the testers were ignored) and hoping people would just fold and pay the £30. So think I for one will be standing my ground unless something fabulous gets revealed later on.
I haven't brought a new addon for TSW 5, and I see nothing here that would persuade me to change that, despite DMU's being my "bag". It all just smacks of get it out and worry about it later.
In scenarios yes but dtg would have to make their own paid pack separate. You'd be better off waiting for a route to come out tbh. More likely than a reskin/timetable pack for Blackpool.
Same here. I was really considering this route, as I think I'd really enjoy it. But having already read, that this suffers from audio popping on xbox. I'll pass for now.
Each to their own on this one and if others want to buy it go ahead, sincerely enjoy yourself and knock yourself out. But I'm firmly sticking to my guns...
I wanna see how the Dutch route turns out before I make a decision on what to get in the future, although I’m leaning more towards the latter
Well, my initial thoughts are: The route itself feels VERY lacklustre. The sense of “unfinished” springs to mind around the entire “Network”. The Class 150. We all know that on WCL, it was an atrocious pile of… well, you know. And with CCN, they certainly had their chances to redeem it. It’s all well and good remodelling it to a modern standard, but the focal point for us train enthusiasts is the sounds. And this just doesn’t cut the mustard one bit. A feeble attempt to make amends in my eyes. The services are mostly made up of Depot Shunts, or the odd 5-15 minute services. I understand this is a “Network” route, but vast majority of the services we run are snippets of the real world. It completely baffles me as to why they didn’t add Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare or Barry Island. At least then we’d have proper end to end running, not just parts of them. The Class 153 (Dogbox). Okay this? With minor defects here & there, I can put to one side because this little thing is simply brilliant. The audio (which I believe came from ScotRail), actually makes it feel real. I’ve completed 3 end to end runs from Coryton to Penarth with it, and it was brilliant! From thrashing it up to Dingle Road to getting up to speed between Queen Street and Heath Low Level, it was a blast. Overall, I genuinely think they dropped the ball on this route. This one could’ve had the potential to be a proper bustling little route. But I’m afraid it doesn’t cut the mustard.
Just watched a bit of TrainsimTV's vid on YT, and I must say the route and trains are looking better each time I watch a review. During the vid he was running a bit late, and because this is a network style route he was getting stuck behind various AI - which I think is a big selling point here. Leads to more playability, adverse signalling etc. Loads of AI as well...
Yeah but the amount of mods he has installed that show up on his streams, it will make it look better..
I know this may be off-topic but if you buy this with the Gamepass discount, will you retain the DLC if you no longer have the subscription?
Well at that point you have bought the dlc. It was just discounted. It would be unfair for your licence to be revoked if your game pass expires.
Yes because you still bought the dlc so if no longer have the pass after they cant take the dlc back and keep your money
If your only playing on game pass and don't own the core game. Then you will not be able to play any tsw add-on as you technically don't have the core game and will need to renew your game pass subscription or buy the game separately. They can't refuse your purchase of the dlc but it will be unplayable without the core game.
Played 1A38- Merthyr Tydfil to Aberdare in timetable mode. I'm not sure if this is a bug with this specific service or if ALL services over this stretch of line are affected, but instead of stopping at Waun-gron Park then Fairwater, the timetable has you pass through the former then make TWO separate stops at the latter. This needs fixing ASAP. I also noticed when exploring Cardiff Queen Street that you can call the lift, but the doors don't actually open.... Performance wise it's mostly fine (better than Mildmay with all the layers on), but every now and then the game freezes for a solid second. It's a miracle I didn't get a crash on either of the two runs I've done so far. Apart from that I'm enjoying the route. There was no way I wasn't going to get it with how local it is to me, and if it's polished to a better standard then it should be a pretty great route. As far as "network" routes go however I'd still say Cathcart is superior- mainly because you're always doing a full run from end to end, which is very important for a fulfilling experience, and something DTG don't seem to understand.
Like when he says he'll keep quiet for a minute so you can listen to the sounds of the 153, and talks after just 1 second!!!
Ok the class 150 was massively underrepresented in the preview stream. The sounds have been massively fixed and there is alot more of that sprinter growl that was missing before. They sound alot more beefy and everything just sounds better. They're a bit quite, especially the engine sounds (the horn is loud enough) but apart from that great job! Doing the class 153 training now.
Ok the class 153 training is broken (Xbox series x) I am spawned inside the train to begin with and when asked to sit in the driver's seat it physically won't let me.
Fwiw i was able to complete the 153 tutorial on Series X, but it was very janky. It def shouldn't spawn you inside the train
Does anyone know if there are ai services to Cheltenham spa from Cardiff central. I want to know because my local train station (Chepstow) is on that line and it would be cool to see it in tsw5
This could easily become one of my favourite routes. I would recommend for the trains alone. Just about to check out the route itself. Based on the introduction I can't say much but some stuff does look a little off.
It has been on the consoles since this morning. Edit: Well see several people beat me to it on that one. Well Nath's feedback is making me very conflicted when Steam goes live at 1800. Think I will just have to distract myself with Snowrunner and wait to see what the PC version feedback looks like.
Just buy it and we’ll do it all again next time! Good to see the positive feedback though about the route. I’m looking forward to getting in the 153.
The suspension is really good. I like the interior 153 sounds although the exterior ones are a tad quiet.
I tried to find a pattern but couldn't find anything. They're maybe slightly more frequent in busier areas like Queen Street and Central although they still occur in quieter parts of the route.
Completely agree. I doubt the people moaning about the sounds being no different from Rivet's have actually played it because it's a massive step up. Starting at notch 3 from rest results in the distinctive growl that we were sorely missing. It sounds very distinctly like a Sprinter, which is most important. Pity the brakes aren't as audible as in the 153. It's still far from the worst sounding train in TSW.
Now, I remain adamant on the sale issue. But, I’ve said the 150s sound better. BUT. They still need work. As far as I can tell there’s still no brake sounds, (it makes the trains feel weird if that makes sense) AWS is totally incorrect. But otherwise it’s pretty much acceptable.
A little OT, but seems like DTG is perhaps hurting themselves with these poor previews- i highly doubt any actual changes were made since the stream but the reaction from players is much more positive than i was expecting based on the reaction to the preview stream. I got Ludwigsbahn 20% off in the steam sales and it's actually quite nicely made aside from no new train (and an unbaked tunnel section near Frankenstein lol), but the previews once again didn't look great for that one. Even if the live streams are here to stay, I urge them to do at least one pre-recorded stream as well, so we can see the new routes in the best light possible- preferably without them yakking the whole time so we can actually hear the sounds lol.
I work out of Cardiff central…. Admittedly on the mainline. Cardiff central and queen street is fine, so is Grangetown and ninian park. The route is great in some places, from what I’ve seen of the numerous videos. however canton is only used for our trains and not GWR and 66s as shown in the dlc… approach control into Cardiff from grangetown seems to show track letters and not platform numbers as it does IRL I’ve already made my feelings about the lack of a concourse at Cardiff clear. since the route released and the videos I’ve seen, I’d give it a 6/10. It was a 4/10, I’ll pick it up if serious updates are made, or if it goes on heavy discount.
Got this route mainly for the Class 153. It’s a nice touch to have the Millennium Stadium modelled so you see it every time you pass through Cardiff Central. The Class 150 has improved sounds and runs more like a Sprinter. Definitely room for improvement though.
Also on PS5, I found that it freezes around a certain place running up to Heath High and Low levels after Cardiff Queen St. It always seems to be that particular spot. I'll try getting screenshots when I play again later.
I don't know. I just still can't bring myself to pay £30 for this. Was browsing my old OPC Rail Atlas a few minutes ago and it really is a miniscule area they picked to model. When you look at what we got route wise in other DLC costing £30, or £25 at the old prices this is really nothing at all. Think I'm going to sit on the fence a while longer. As I've said, £18 or £20 I would have given it a shot but part of me also says, if we just say, "Ah okay then", and buy, DTG will just grin and start giving us more £30 mini routes with the decent size ones jumping to £35 or £40.
