Why the Wien S-Bahn Should Be in TSW5 The Wien S-Bahn (Vienna S-Bahn) is one of the busiest and most iconic commuter rail networks in Europe. It serves Vienna and its surrounding areas, offering a diverse array of passenger and freight services. With its modern rolling stock, dense timetable, and scenic variety, it would make an exciting addition to Train Sim World 5 (TSW5). This route would provide players with an immersive urban rail experience, capturing the unique atmosphere of Vienna while also offering a mix of commuter, regional, and freight operations. Let’s take a closer look at why the Wien S-Bahn would be an excellent addition to TSW5. 1. Diverse and Busy Network The Wien S-Bahn serves both urban and suburban areas, offering a mix of high-frequency city services and longer regional runs. This variety makes it exciting for players who enjoy different types of operations. 2. Mix of Old and New Trains With classic trains like the ÖBB 1216 and modern units like the Cityjet (4744/4746), players would get a historical and contemporary experience in one route or maybe 3. Challenging Driving Conditions The route includes underground sections, busy junctions, and open countryside, requiring different driving styles and careful timetable management. 4. Authentic Austrian Rail Experience The Wien S-Bahn connects with Austria’s mainline rail network (ÖBB), allowing for future expansions or integration with long-distance routes in the game. 5. Scenic Variety From Vienna’s historic city center to rolling hills and forests in the surrounding regions, the route would provide stunning visuals and diverse landscapes. 6. High Player Demand Austrian train fans and European rail enthusiasts have long requested an Austrian route in TSW. The Wien S-Bahn would fill that gap perfectly. 7. Great Potential for Expansion With possible extensions to Flughafen Wien (Airport), or even regional ÖBB routes, this could be a gateway to even more Austrian railway content in the future. 8. Complex and Realistic Signaling System The Austrian railway system uses ETCS (European Train Control System) and PZB/Indusi for safety and signaling. This would add a new layer of challenge for players who enjoy operating under real-world rail safety systems. 9. Variety of Services The Wien S-Bahn includes: Frequent city services with short stops Longer suburban journeys with high-speed sections Express S-Bahn trains (Schnellbahn) with fewer stops 10. Busy Mainline Traffic The Wien S-Bahn shares tracks with ÖBB’s long-distance and freight services, meaning players could experience a lively and dynamic railway environment. 11. Unique Austrian Train Features Austrian trains have unique features like Cityjet interior announcements, Austrian station signs, and ÖBB-specific train controls, making the gameplay more immersive. 12. Realistic Station Designs Vienna's stations range from historic buildings like Wien Praterstern to modern hubs like Wien Hauptbahnhof, offering a variety of detailed, high-quality environments. 13. Tight Timetable Management Since the Wien S-Bahn is part of an integrated public transit network, services run frequently, requiring precise timing, quick stops, and efficient acceleration to stay on schedule. From high-speed Railjet services to freight operations, this route offers something for everyone. Furthermore, its dense timetable, realistic safety systems, and attention to detail would provide hours of immersive gameplay. For all these reasons, DTG should seriously consider adding the Wien S-Bahn to Train Sim World 5. Let's bring the Wien S bahn to TSW5
I think it would be nice to have both the line over Mödling and the line over Ebenfurth, would add 12 stations but increase the variety a lot
https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/wien-wiener-neustadt.89902/ dude I would also have included Badner Bahn, but that one would be maybe more fit for a tram sim than a train sim ... also, Wiener Neustadt has insane amount of small branch lines going out of it also, I know that ETCS is used on some portions, but I am not aware of LZB being present on this route on any of the 3 corridors... where the speed is high (Pottendorfer Linie), I think they just opted to use ETCS as the upgrade is quite recent anyway, a route that would properly show Vienna would rock... tho in the variant you propose (and in mine as well), this would be more like Nahverkehr than S-Bahn... if you really wanted an S-Bahn route thing, it should include the Stammstrecke (Meidling - Hbf - Floridsdorf) and one or two branches... or S45 + S80 + some out of Vienna route, maybe S2 up to Wolkersdorf (proper S2 can go all the way to Laa an der Thaya, but Wolkersdorf is one of possible termini and the route goes around some nice vineyards and such)
some S-Bahn trains use this route or its parts... I believe S1 (to Břeclav), S2 (to various places, Wolkersdorf, Mistelbach or Laa an der Thaya) and S3 (Retz, Hollabrunn etc) ... the mainline has huge variety, from S-Bahn trains to REX trains and RailJets (both OBB and ČD), but also D trains (which is kinda like InterCity) and such... as I have also said in my suggestion thread, this is a super-busy route... Pottendorfer Linie as well ... and Aspangbahn is more like service to the smaller communities (tho it has some nice frequency, gotta give em that)
The route, it's just focusing on the S bahn lines, and the regional ÖBB lines (not really) some are even railjet lines which I did include as a separate add on
if you wanna focus on S-Bahn, Stammstrecke is a must I would say... that would add tons of like 20-25min long services from Floridsdorf to Meidling and if you include S-Bahn to W.Neustadt, I wouldnt exclude REX-es, cos those are damn packed every time and they utilize the line's great speed
Correct and further more owners of the following Salzburg Rosenheim Vorarlberg & Semmeringbahn get to throw in their 4024s here although there is another version of it fitted with Hungarian EVM Czechoslovakian Mirel the 4124 which can do Verkehrsverbund Ost Region VOR S-Bahn Wien. When they make the route they need to have that decals added to it
also a must is Siemens Desiro ML (current backbone of S-Bahn and regional/commuter rail traffic in Austria, along with 4024/4124) and 4020 or 5040 (previous gen backbone, still used on some regional services and as supplementary unit during rush hours / busier days)... and then there is Taurus/1144 + dostos (both older and modern) and cab car or CityShuttle carriages and cab car (those are still used, tho less and less) for a lot of REX services Siemens Desiro ML also does CJX9 on this route
OK then the 4744-4746 if you own them here then it should enable layering onto the other Austrian routes. If made I have to use keyboard on Console because without it it's going to be hard playing German and Austrian PZB routes.
I mean yeah, if they did Desiro ML, they could put it into pretty much any electrified route set in Austria... every single route I have ridden in Vienna or surroundings had them, S-Bahn, REX, CJX and even as RailJet replacements during some construction work ... there is even a version called Desiro ML ECO that can run on batteries on non-electrified portions, but I have no idea of routes that use that one (on batteries it can run max 140 kph)
