Thank you. So the old route is not relevant now? The fact is that I made a mistake and first bought Long Island, and then LIRR. Should I request a refund?
so the original LIRR add the layer for New York Trenton. if you don't care or want that then yes LIRR2 is the once you want
Now that I finally upgraded from TSW3 with the free TSW5 starter pack, I got the new L.I.R.R. route. I have to say, usually I'm quite critical with TSW, but so far I am really happy with this one! They managed to improve on all of my main complaints on the original L.I.R.R. There is proper traffic on the route now, the route is finally busy. There is rolling stock on the sidings, Jamaica and the other terminuses are full of trains. ATC is working (and added ACSES), though a bit sad about the dumbed down M7 and M9. At least the M3 seems to be unaffected and that's what I drive the most anyways. There are finally whistle posts where there should be, which I was really happy to see. Different PIS screens are a nice addition and the scenery improvements are nice. They are subtle, but impactful. The different ground textures make a big difference. Also like the added details like the old platform inside the tunnel towards East New York. Tunnel lighting also seems to be much better (below is the tunnel towards Penn station with the headlights off, for example). I also love the new branch. Different branches is what the LIRR is about. It's such a nice view when you are approaching the main branch and you can see the trains on in driving past. Really makes you feel as part of the network. With the increased traffic this can be a sight at many junctions now, which is amazing. The conductor scenario is also pretty fun. Now that conductor mode is a proper feature of TSW5, I wonder if this route will ever get it as well? Would be fun! There were a few issues I noticed of course. Like playing in september the route was really dark after sunset, it took a while for the lights to turn on in the city. I assume it's not an issue in summer months, but here it's a noticeable issue. Aren't lights supposed to turn on based on overall brightness now?
glad you are enjoying it. need to look how the lights turn on. but the night lighting should be good. especially if you drive in the fog, just make sure you put the head lights on dim to drive in the fog at night. is probably my favorite route in the game
I sure am. I was a big fan of the original LIRR route even despite all of it's flaws. While having to pay for it a second time does leave a bit bitter taste in my mouth, enough years have passed so I don't care anymore, I am just happy to finally see a good LIRR adaptation.
This service I probably have recommended is service 2303 M7 is probably my favorite so far. I know it says to depart at 706am, just wait two minutes and depart at 708am . It will be worth it and you will still arrive at Jamaica on time. don't want to spoil to much but highly recommend it.
Thanks, I will try it out. Today I was doing some of the scenarios. So far they seem interesting, more than just from A to B runs. However I was doing the one with the fire and as you approach Jamaica and drive through the think smoke, I was just thinking how much fun it is when the whole thing broke. I used the photo mode to take this screenshot, then as I exited, I got a "objective failure" message and the scenario skipped the stop at Jamaica part. It told me to go back to St. Albans. Not an issue, I changed ends and drove back. But after St. Albans, the scenario was supposed to continue driving back to Lynbrook, but the ATC kept me at 15 MPH all the time, then at half way I was met with a red signal... So I don't know if photo mode broke the scenario or what happened, but quite annoying. The first half of the scenario was also quite bad in that regard that stopping point were not in the correct places and the game didn't let you progress unless you stopped where it wanted you to. Good idea, bad execution.
i don't think you are suppose to change ends. just visualize the conductor being on the end guiding you. I don't recall playing this scenario but just remember that part
I had the same problem on this scenario , got objective failure after driving through the smoke . I restarted the scenario and noticed the objective marker stops you before the smoke . This time the scenario worked (stopping before going through the smoke) and I also changed ends after I stopped before the smoke .
Yeah, since then I tried the scenario again and realized that I have simply missed the stop mark. Though I still find it weird that you have to reverse the train for more than a mile from the front (now rear) cab - I would imagine in a situation like this you would swap ends. Yet in the scenario the game only tells you to change ends once already on the station. Anyway, it's great to see that the M3 has received some fixes. The original LIRR M3 has the front headlights turn off when using dimmed headlight - now finally all 3 stay on. Also, while the scenery is good on the new Long Beach branch, I wish the scenery around the main branch was also extended a bit. Driving on the slightly elevated sections shows way too much green plains behind the 3 blocks of scenery modelled, lol.
agree. I wished for some many things but all in all ,still one of my favorite routes in the game. could it be better, absolutely.
Same. This route finally feels like they fixed almost everything that was an issue with the original LIRR. The only thing missing now is a diesels+bilevel add-on. I I don't know how much chance we have for them, but I would really love to see it happen.
I was doing the scenario with the golfing theme - while the scenario itself was quite uninteresting, I did enjoy the golf lore and I found the people standing around with golf clubs. Though I don't know why anyone would be standing around like this, but at least it was something, lol On a more negative side, previously I was happy to see the new crew platforms added at Hempstead sidings, but now I am sad to see they seem to be clipping the trains quite a lot. Like, whoever placed them, did they not care to check? Also why is Hempstead getting 10 car trains when it can only fit 8? Is this prototypical? Edit: Alright, after a quick check on google earth, this seems to be prototypical for some reason, lol.
The AI only service called LIRR-2866-PortalIN seems to get stuck at Valley Stream station. The status is "Stop Off Path" - I suppose it's trying to go down south, but the switch under it directed it straight, to east. As a result, I ran into a pile up of good 5 trains, with mine being the 6th in line. I was Train 876 NY Penn - Long Beach.
Yeah since that train is going to Far Rockaway, it usually stops there and the service ends and starts a new one as a portal-in train. The problem with this is how the game acts like the train doesn't exist anymore and causes the train behind it to be prioriotized instead leading to it going off path. Not sure why it's like this.
Will there ever be another patch for some of the outstanding bugs on this route ? Not been many updates for this route since release .
Hopefully at some point? I just realized the service getting stuck I reported has already been listed in the first post as a known issue, so surely they plan to fix it at some point? Who knows. Also one issue I noticed is that the crossing gates at Long Island City do not work anymore. It's not that big of a deal now, as barely a few services go there currently. But if they ever add the the bi-level trains, then that terminal would get a bit more traffic I assume, so it should really be fixed.
Still having issues with out of memory crashes on PS5. Especially around NY Penn, Woodside and Jamaica. Several journeys in journey mode are not completable because of this. I've tried train 5 Babylon-Penn, train 822 Penn-Long Beach and most recently train 1616 Penn-Huntingdon. It's been 6 months since the route was released. DTG Matt DTG-Chris any updates on memory optimisation for Lirr as it's a good route but pretty much unplayable in its current state.
Got New York - Trenton in the recent sale, so now I finally have Sunnyside Yard populated properly. It's a great sight! Though I wish we got proper moving AI traffic at NY Penn. The New York - Trenton rendition is so amazing with Amtrak, NJ and LIRR traffic constantly going in and out. Compared to that, it is quite laid back on this route, with only the LIRR traffic moving.
Yea I wish we had that AI in LIRR2. On NYT between 8am and 9am you will see about 90 trains go in and out Penn. is a sight to see
Just wondering why my game shows I need to re-purchase LIRR and Tees Valley, when I own them both. (I checked.) I believe those are the only two routes showing this problem. I know LIRR had an upgrade. I assume Tees Valley did too. But I've owned them since TSW2, I believe. tx.
Are AI services supposed to ignore ATC safety systems? I've noticed it before the live map update but now it's clear that AI only follows ACSES and not ATC.
Safety systems aren't a thing to the AI - all the AI cares about are the permanent speed limits and stop signals.
767. Safety systems go nuts after arriving at Nostrand Avenue. Something is beeping outside the train(did NYT bites LIRR?), but nothing is beeping inside which means you will get emergency brakes every 30 seconds, cause all of the safety systems became completely silent and moreover alerter not shown on display. The only way to get this train to the final destination is to hit the Q key every second.
yes, is a known issue of no passengers at the following stations, Mineola, Locust Manor, Centre Avenue, east rockaway, Oceanside, Lynbrook, and Laurelton.
Interesting... Playing a scenario with the M3 on the new route, well I'm assuming it is as it has the reverb for bridges and to the best of my knowledge the old version unticked in Steam and pak file deleted on my install. Anyhoo on boarding the train, not only was the charge brakes button present and active, he scenario actually prompted me to use it. In addition the safety systems were all deactivated in terms of enforcement and no vigilance activations either. So this one must have slipped the net (just don't tell LIRR!).
Yeah, the scenarios for the M3 have been ported over to the new route as well. And the M3 doesn't have safety systems forced on, but it doesn't even have ACSES - only basic ATC.
A layer which is written into scenarios...Still kind of defeats the notion of having everything else on the route enforcing safety systems. Added to which this particular scenario actually has you following a preceding train on line of sight out of the coach yard so anyone who wished could easily stage a rear end collision.
Well, copying scenarios from one route to another are not that difficult when thry share the same area. Someone once even ported a scenario from the original NEC to LIRR. So that's why the new LIRR route also got the M3 scenarios. But since the M3 itself is an older product, I guess it is not restricted by the same deal as the rest of the new route is, so they didn't have to update it with the forced safety systems.
Safety and signaling systems were required for lirr commuter to be released. The m3 was not part of the dlc so it doesn't really apply. The mta was aware of the other dlc in tsw but choose chose not to do anything.
Will the route ever get the improved track shadows - considering it was on the original list of routes that will get them? Also, regarding tracks, could the shiny ballast thing be fixed? It looks great on the MBTA Worcester Line. Here it's ridiculous if you're driving towards the sun.
I believe it was on the original "planned" list, but then this list got reduced to only show the routes that already have them included. Boston Sprinter also got the new shadows, despite not being present on the list - but I believe it was also there on the original "planned" list alongside LIRR.
This route was also supposed to receive suspension as well since it's a TSW4 route. Never trust Dovetail and their promises.
True. I completely forgot suspension physics were supposed to be a TSW4 thing. They announced it as the new core feature then none of the new content recieved it for like a year, lol. So much british and german stuff get updated to include these new features, yet US routes don't get them even if they are TSW4+ routes?
Thank you, my man. Even if nothing happens, it's worth a try. But now that LIRR 2 is a thing, I hope at least it doesn't get into the same forgotten state as the original. It's a nice route with plenty of potential for more. Would love to see it recieve care in the future, either in the form of updates like these, more rolling stock or even new branches (either as extensions to this one, or worst case as separate routes).
Agree. LIRR2 is my favorite route. can't get enough it.No route is perfect and LIRR2 like any other route has issues. But I don't think it gets enough credit for what it actually offers. Here's a list of great things about it: The route has 39 stations(including Hillside MX complex and Bolands Landing) (most in game) 40 if you include the abandoned Woodhaven. Total night services 113 from 12am-5:59am(most playable passenger service at those times) .49 spawn points through out the route map (most of any route) total of 625 LIRR services, M3(32), M7(287), M9(306) with total of 1104 services that includes all AI (2nd most for US. 25 complete services: (Most in the game) Penn- Hicksville, Penn- Hempstead Penn-long beach Penn- Hicksville north siding Penn-Belmont Penn -Jamaica Long Beach-Atlantic Long Beach -Jamaica Long Beach -WSY Jamaica-Hempstead Jamaica-Atlantic Jamaica-Belmont Jamaica-LIC Atlantic- Hempstead Hicksville-Jamaica Vanderbilt yard- Jamaica Vanderbilt yard- Atlantic Terminal Vanderbilt yard-Hempstead WSY-Belmont WSY- Hillside facility WSY-Jamaica WSY-Hicksville north siding Valley stream sidings- Penn station Hillside facility-Hicksville north siding Hillside facility-Penn station No other current route in the games even comes close to that number of complete services. Unique west bound dual track operation from Hicksville to Floral park in the morning Am rush hours 7am- 7:30am. Unique west bound dual track operation from Floral park to Hicksville 6pm- 6:30PM (service 1256).numerous simultaneous departures from Jamaica station track 1,2,3 and 6,7,8. five branches , 2 different PIS systems, most playable US route in the game, most passengers only services in game between 12-5:59am. M7 , M9 ATC and ACSES interactive test automatic guard buzzer when doors are closed.M7 and M9 CDP interactive screens. There's plenty of room for improvement. I can't make any promises but, I will continue to communicate feedback.
Very true. It does seem underrated. But it's a really good route, this version pretty much fixed all of my biggest issues with the original one. We have a busy timetable, properly functioning safety systems and whistle boards, which I was really missing from the original release. The more prototypical and unique PIS screens and the M9 were also very nice to see. Fortunatelly my remaining issues are mostly just visual stuff - like the mentioned shiny ballast or the missing track shadow improvements. Though scenery could also be still improved at places, especially around the main branch and the Hempstead branch, as you will quite often see bare terrain even from cab view, just a few blocks away from the tracks. But sadly I don't expect that to happen by now. And of course, I think everyone agrees that the diesels with the bi-level cars would be great to see as well in the future!
Good, keep it up ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) As push-pull US commuter services seem to be doing relatively well in TSW (considering we have a bunch of them now?), I guess the DC30AC/DM30AC could also be well received. Especially on a route that already has 3 type of trains and a good busy timetable.
I think the diesels without route expansion are senseless. Oyster Bay is most realistic variant. But what kind of route expansion can we talk about when DTG didn't even extend it to Huntington, which is 2 inches from Hicksville. Or Freeport wich is a stop point for trains to Babylon wich pass by Lynbrook and it would give us a lot more sevrices for the player(instead of boring Penn to Jamaica, because next stop is out of the map). It makes me sad that we probably won't see any of this.
