Train Sim Wont Load With Downloaded/workshop Routes

Hello there Everyone i was wondering if anyone can help me with this bug i've been having for quite a while and i haven't found a fix despite contacting Dovetail & ATS so im wondering if anyone can help me.

Every route i've been installing/Subbing to hasn't been a problem however when im trying to load them on Standard they freeze and sometimes i get the out of memory prompt but i've got plenty of VRAM so any help is appreciated (I don't want to Defraggler my SSD cause i've heard that does damage to the drive) But i am open to other suggestions that wont harm my PC

ahhh i see i still tried optimizing it but i had no luck and still got the same popup with "out of memory" so im kinda stuck atm

 

A "journey" can mean both "route" and "scenario" but they are different concepts.
In the Standard tab you are seeing and starting scenarios.

The TSC workshop extractor has been faulty for over a decade.
In many games workshop can be used directly, but TSC takes and installs them.
In short, that fails, generates garbage files and TSC doesn't verify them due to performance concerns I guess, leading to crashes.

There are two workarounds.

• Only ever subscribe (prepare) one item per game launch. (Also, only ever run one scenario per game launch.)
  When you come across a set, you can favorite them or use the new local workshop manager (Steam, game Properties) to ensure they are not visible to the game.
• Manage them manually. (Idea by Spikee) Sub, navigate to where workshop files are downloaded
  for example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\24010
  steamapps here is the Steam library, so if you have it only a disk, you'll have workshop within the library including TSC
  and extract the ZIP files manually. Elderly workshop items come as an ID_legacy.bin file, no idea what to do with them. The ZIP, observe that they include a Content-Routes-ID-Scenario folders just like your game
  for example: c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\24010\1320465202\scnr_fdc6b4a5-14ca-4008-ba1d-cabbe4c4a26c.zip\Content\Routes\00000030-0000-0000-0000-000000000000\Scenarios\fdc6b4a5-14ca-4008-ba1d-cabbe4c4a26c

This is the 193th time I'm typing this up. DTG Jamie would you be so kind to conjure and sticky an official version of this?
Or, possibly, did the development team fix it completely and will it come with the next non-beta release, reasonably soon?

 

When you get an "Out of Memory" error it is usually talking about the RAM and not Disk Memory
It is something I get and the Computer shows I have 465Gb free

How much spare space do you have on your railworks drive?

 

I assume when you mean railworks drive you mean the one on steam if so then i have 953.57MB available

 

So if you have that much room why do you want to Optimise the drive?
As I said it the the Game that is Out of Memory not the SSD.

 

But is the game using the Memory on the Graphics Card or the Computer?

 

Im not saying i want to optimize the drive i just want to find a fix where this will be no longer an issue so i can play the game fine

The best way to "Optimise" a SSD is to use the inhbuilt Windows "TRIM" command (via Optimise and Defragment Drives )Type into Windows search window. Google.

GEEK warning
The OOM you are seeing has little to do with not having enough memory to run TSC (OOM) it is primarily due to a mismatch between the Windoes Virtual address space (VAS) and the Physical RAM.
All software (including TSC) is loaded by the Windows OS into the VAS which then MUST transfer that data (via the CPU/MMU) into the Physical RAM. If as little one block of data 4K at a certain address in the VAS cannot be allocated into the EXACT SAME Physical RAM 4K address that can result in an OOM for ANY software.
Google VAS, Soft page fault (minor stutter in TSC), Hard Page Fault (more promounced stutter in TSC) and Invalid Page fault (OOM in TSC)

Hello there this does not seem to be the issue with train sim as when im loading a scenario the game is still freezing

 

Can you re-read that again?
It is not an issue with the Game as the Game is freezing?

 

My bad sorry about that what i meant was that did not fix the issue because the game is still freezing when loading a scenario

 

What did you do that did not work?

And try loading a default Scenario - one that came with TSC 2024 and see if that works

 

I tried what Peter Hayes suggested i looked at the website and did what it said and it still Didn't load. I have also tried loading a normal career scenario and that loaded with no problem i tried with standard aswell with a normal DTG route and i had no problems loading them.

I have been in contact with ATS and they said its nothing to do with them and they reckon its a core issue um having with the game but im not that good with computers so im not to sure what it could be.

 

It is nothing to do with DTG or ATS - if something works on most peoples computers but not some there is nothing they can change to make it work.
Maybe there are too many other trains in the Scenario and that is why it won't load.

Set the Windows graphics preferences for the app.
Check your game is using the Graphics Card RAM and not the on board RAM

I would reload TSC from scratch and add only one DLC to see if it can run with just basic functionality (1 DLC from Steam and validated). If this works then you most likely have some 3rd party stuff causing a problem. If not then contact DTG.

 

I have already Tried this and i encountered the same issue unfortunately so its probably due to what i have my GPU preference on

 

And the fact - although you did not mention it - you have a Laptop.

 

Yeah i do sorry for not bringing in that caveat will this matter at all do you need the specs?

 

I cannot comment on the use of a Laptop. They naturally have poor graphics cards due to the design.

 

I do have a pretty decent Graphics Card and 16GB of ram it can run TSW at highest settings with no problem unless im at a busy location

 

TSW and TSC are different games.
The Core engine of TSC dates from around 2007 as you can download add-ons from 2012 that still work.

I have already contacted DTG and the person i was speaking with said to Contact ATS and then ATS said it was a game issue they reckon but im not to sure

 

Ok can you let me know specifically what route and possibly scenarios. I can see what happens on my end. I own almost 100% of purchased ATS. I do not download the general free stuff. I can then see if I can help.

 

I've got all of the Subscription Route that you can get i've also got some of the payware routes i've got Cambridge-Peterborough, Chat Moss, Kings Cross-Kings Lynn and that's it i believe i've got some of the freeware routes but if you don't want to try them then that's fine but something tells me that whatever issue im having its effecting the Freeware routes aswell

It seems to be any scenario that comes with them routes i specified because other scenarios i've installed for like base game routes and AP MML they run fine with no issue what so ever but yeah any scenario with the routes i specified seem to be the issue it might be my Graphics card out of memory but idk how to make it like have enough memory again

 

If the base game routes work then it ISNT your graphics card. You are missing some code to make them work.

 

Example:
Alan Thomson Simulation – Cambridge to Peterborough
You MUST have the following: Any of these are missing and you will get some sort of failure from - missing asset screen to graphic dump error depending on what is missing. Do you have all of these for this specific Route? You MUST own them and have them loaded for this specific Route to work. If not when you try to run your computer will be confused and will dump.

Route Requirements
Train Simulator Classic (obviously you have this)
East Coast Main Line London-Peterborough Route Add-On
Great Eastern Main Line London-Ipswich Route Add-On
South Western Main Line: Southampton – Bournemouth Route Add-On
One of the Steam DLCs which provides the UK LED Signals pack
Overhead Live Electrification Pack (OHLE Pack)

When downloading ANYTHING from ATS (or ANY other 3rd party outside of Steam) read very carefully what is required to run it!

I already have all of these requirements some of the routes i had like 1 missing but that caused me no problems in the past so in theory you'd like to think that would still be the case even for the Workshop routes i had the odd route missing but that would be for like scenery so its strange that it could be making a difference now

 

It is ATS product that is giving you problems?

 

Im also having the same issue with routes on steam workshop so its probably a my laptop issue i need to try and fix

 

If your laptop can run Steam DCL it is most likely you are missing some code

 

It is more than likely the Steam Workshop Route is broken - there are no checks made on what is uploaded.
If you can run most of the routes/scenarios without any problem then there is nothing wrong with your Laptop.

You are not the only person who gets Out of Memory problems running Freeware Routes and Scenarios.
I downloaded a new Freeware Route and assets but I could not get it to open.
Having run various checks to see if I had everything it would still not work - so I got rid of it.
Deleting a Route just gets rid of the Map - everything else is still on your computer.

Yeah fair enough i just find it strange how from one day a route can go from running fine with no issue and then it causes the game to crash

 

I am guessing something you uploaded (maybe from a workshop item) has overwritten some of your asset files and when you go to run the new break in the code has created an issue. If it were me and say I wanted to get ATS Chat Moss working first I would resync all of your Steam DLCs (this can be done automatically and will take max of 30 minutes). I would then deploy all of the other required downloads next and finally the Chat Moss. These programs feed on each other and if not installed correctly will cause grief. If added in the correct order it should provide a possitive result. Adding other ‘unknown’ packages from Workshop can break stuff. Some of the stuff in there is good others not so much. I personally steer clear of Workshop stuff.

 

The only stuff i tend to get on steam workshop are routes and maybe the odd scenario but i havent got a scenario off workshop in a long time i was also brain storming and i did remember on certain BATCH files i did get a serz.exe error as shown and i was thinking it could be that cause that started happening at about the same time as my game crashing but im not a computer wizz so im not to sure

 

Why are you using SERZ? Are you modifying code? This app converts bin files into XML and vise versa. Are you specifically running this converter or is something calling it up during a file execution? This is not normal.

 

When i was downloading reskins for scenarios i sometimes was getting Them popups and i thought that might be what was causing me problems cause some scenarios require alternate reskins from like MJW and other sites but i wasn't to sure what it does

 

I am pretty sure this is what is causing the issue with your code. It suggests that the author did not fully test their code or did not really understand what they were doing. I would delete these suspect providers asset folders and then as mentioned before (1) validate Steam DLCs (2) reload any 3rd party software you trust. Once done this should give you a stable software block for TSC to execute. Hope this helps.

 

Alright just to make sure so i dont muck it up.

I go into the asset folder and delete whatever is causing me issues (i assume this will be the same for steam workshop).
Then i validate my game files in steam for TSC.
Then i redownload whatever was causing me issues and hopefully my game will be running ok?
