I've been away for a few weeks, so forgive me if I missed a news update, but why has the Peak Forest class 104 DMU been removed from the TSW roadmap? Has it gone into the same "indefinite delay" that the German class 420 DLC got stuck in for years? The only two DLCs I was buying this year are the Peak Forest class 104 and Just Trains class 86/2, so it's depressing to see that it's suddenly vanished.
The roadmap thread just says removed. In another thread someone (not DTG) posted they are still being worked on and it’s a sentence below it. But the sentence doesn’t seem to show in the roadmap thread. So I have no clue tbf
I have to say I'm disappointed with the state of the 104. We got pre rendered images over a year ago now and since that all we had was a few wagon images? When it was in the 1-3 months category and now it's just become an unfortunate saga not dissimilar to the old 313 debacle. I'm all for taking time to get things right but how have we gone from 1-3 months to over a year with no progess or meaningful update? I understand that it's a couple of Devs working in their spare time but who fired the 1-3 months gun off so early?
That's helpful to know - thank you. I'm glad I'm not going crazy, was re-reading and re-reading the forum thread trying to work out how I missed it. DTG Alex A CTRL C + CTRL V job is required in the forum thread
In all fairness those who read the roadmap forum thread (which generally matches the article) wouldn't know as DTG seem to have missed that bit out in error
Think it’s fair to say Simtrack were only ever a cosplay company/developer, whom DTG announced far too early. Happy to be proved wrong in the future but I think we can take it the 104 is dead and buried along with any timetable improvements for PFR. If the guy(s) we’re struggling with the project, then why on Earth aren’t DTG helping or even adopting the work and bringing in house to finish?
As I understand it, it was a time issue. 3PP devs work in their spare time. Life changes and priorities change. We put things on the roadmap based on how things seemed to be progressing and then the brakes came on and made the call to pull it. We can't make everyone's content for them - we have enough to do of our own - if devs need guidance we of course provide it but otherwise they do need to be making their content themselves. Matt.
Fair comment Matt, but if there’s a learning point from this it’s maybe not to eagerly announce an item until pretty much assured in the development process. You can forgive us for viewing Tadami in a similar light. I’m as guilty as anyone, back in the days of creating routes for MSTS, TSC and Trainz to gleefully announce my next great project, only for it to shuffle off to the recycle bin three or four weeks later. My list of the “ones that got away” is quite legendary and still sits on my laptop!
Totally agree, if it was up to me, i probably wouldn't be announcing anything until we're cert signed off and ready to go. But - the community have made it clear that's far too late and then feels like we're being too secretive. Third party devs also like the opportunity to talk to the community about what they're doing so we need to "announce" first to support that. It's not an easy balance to strike. Tadami remains on the list because it's actively being developed, I see regular progress on it. Probably announced too early also, but, perhaps it also lends some insights into just how long these things take to create. I am more in favour of tending towards announcing much later than we have, but as I say, that sword has two sides (to be clear, it's not up to me when we announce things, rightly so, but I do have input on the process) Matt.
…thank you for taking the time out to explain the situation Matt, I know it will be appreciated. It will be a shame if there are no further add-ons for this route as it’s clear you & your team have invested a lot of time & love in creating a beautiful product ! . I think a lot of people probably bought this route on the strength of the Sim Track Studios update/pack happening but never mind, thanks again.
I think I need to go and spend some time on PFR, looking at those screenshots. Very nice. (After I’ve dragged my truck and tanker out the gully on Snowrunner). And appreciate the explanation, Matt.
That's a shame. It's a beautiful route. I often use the class 40s in free roam. Why not invest some time remodeling those for the timetable? Or even better a class 25.
