Frankfurt S-bahn Discussion

My point was having a combined timetable, even if unrealistic. I like the sense of achievement to try and complete all timetabled services in a timetable. So, having two separate, means having to replay the same services again.

 

Happy to confirm that DTG has decided after reading our feedback, that Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof will be included with this route.

 

And don't forget the freight loop to reach Mainz from the north side of the Rhine coming from the east.

I'm very pleasantly surprised by DTG including all of that. Just from the initial looks of it, this route is in very good contention to be one of the best and most diverse german routes to be released for TSW.
I do wonder how long that additional work to add that actually takes, because 1 month does seem short for the near finished extra parts or if it might be copy pasted from a potential future Add-On...

 

Hopefully the route will be optimised so that us on Gen 9 console will be able to play the route without problem. It worries me a lot though considering Frankfurt-Fulda on Gen 9...

 

Yeah, for my current PC I'm not buying anything again with Frankfurt Hbf in the title unless they optimise it.

 

I hope we get do drive the IC cab car as well, not only the basic 101 with IC-coaches...

 

I just hope I can drive the completed S8 & S9 from Wiesbaden to Hanau, with existing Frankfurt - Fulda add-on

 

The addition of the Fernbahnhof, freight bypass and short bit of Schnellfahrstrecke is fantastic news. Massive kudos to DTG for listening to our feedback! The ICE layers add a lot of replayability to the route.

 

One thing I noticed...

Is it just the angle/zoom of the ingame cam, or does the building actually look a bit too fat?

 

You're right, it seems too fat. At least regarding the ratio between the width and the number of windows as well as the ratio between the width and the radii of the corners. Comparing the width between the building and the tunnel however it doesn't seem that off either so I don't know what exactly is wrong, but there's something weird about it.

 

PS: I've checked with Google Earth and it seems that the building is rotated by 180°. The part of the building we see in the screenshot is the western end, which is the narrower one.

Comparing it to the eastern end, it fits a lot better with the width we see in the screenshot.

I also believe the model is the same as what they put on their "cutout sheet", which serves a good overview on how they made it

The west end is a bit narrower than the east end here, however in-game it seems not to be. The rest is correct though, since the platform area is closer to the east end while on the west end the building goes farther out, which the side view of the cutout seems to confirm. Maybe they did put it correctly, but it's still a tad too wide, or the screenshot is older, or they wrongfully 'corrected' it?

 

I think that would be the most futuristic trainstation design in TSW. Even I like classic train station design very much, I'm very impressed of the Frankfurt Fernbahnhof design.

 

Shunting services at the big freight yards would be nice too.

 

Hi Matt I missed the roadmap Chat was there a release date for this route yet looks awsome by the way.

 

Ok it's not rotated, but the western end of the building (the front part in the screenshot) is noticeably too wide. The real building tapers quite a lot more than the current model seen here. Otherwise great job so far, the interior looks really good and the surrounding area is pretty good as well.

anyway, does this route have any LZB sections?

 

The section between Bft Frankfurt Stadion Süd and Abzw Raunheim Mönchhof is equipped with LZB, but that's only a ~10km section.

 

That's just enough to provide for an interesting gameplay experience, I think. Start off at Hbf under PZB, switch to LZB for Flughafen Fernbahnhof and a short section of Sfs (including the Abzw itself) and switch back to PZB. It keeps you on your toes. Should be interesting to see what speed we're able to achieve before having to slow down for the Abzw.

EDIT: although from the end of the platform to the start of the Abzw is only 5 km, so I expect 160 as a Vmax

No release date yet. As the route was announced just last month, this should give you a rough timeframe from previous DLCs and their time between announcement and release.

 

If I may add that the achievements for this route have been thrown into the game just 1 or 2 days ago, the release isn't that far anymore...

I recall hearing freight will be AI. with multiple big yards it would be a missed opportunity as freight, not just american is really being abandoned by DB lately. might be a coincidence but nearly all routes have been heavily passenger focus sadly.

 

I hope its still mid-late april and not may, but since Fernbahnhof seems to be still work in progress and thinking of all the testing that needs to be done im worried it will take longer than expected. Something speaking for the release in the next weeks is that they have not told us to wait for the next roadmap articles for news on a release date. Not to mention the rolling stock with the 430 and 423 interior are already looking quite well. Would be interesting if the 430 does have new sound recordings made for it.

 

Mh, if this would be the case, why would they add the „Umgehungsbahn-Mainz”?! This, to my knowledge, is only used by fright. I doubt that they would add this route for AI only…

True, but I somehow doupt that DTG would add a seperate line within a DLC just for freeroam fun. I simply dont believe that they would consider this would add a selling argument to this...

 

Up to 2018 the Umgehungsbahn Mainz was only freight, since then there's an hourly passenger service per direction. So there was at least one year (2019), where Gateway Gardens was not yet open but the RE 4 and 14 already ran Ludwigshafen - Mainz - Frankfurt via Hochheim and Höchst. Guess you'd need the route via Mainzer Landstraße in Frankfurt for that though.

 

Does the 423 receive new cockpit textures?

 

I am hoping that the platforms under Ffm Hbf will now be built for the S-bahn services. When I lived in Nied they mostly ran via the underground platforms.
This leads on to an incident/ adventure in 2001:
One Saturday after having lunch in Frankfurt I came back to the station to get the S1 (Br 420) home. After standing next to the door for a few minutes, and with most of the local passengers looking at their watches, there was an announcement of a minor delay. The S8 on the platform next to ours was meant to depart first. However, there was no driver in the cab.
The DB personnel on the platform called the manager who came along and looked in the cab (it was a 420), confirming that there was no driver.
Therefore we were signalled to depart. Our train set off, but just outside of the tunnel we were routed on to the S8 route. the driver stopped the train, with the intention of reversing back so the points could be changed. After a couple of minutes this was cancelled ( the train behind was now in the platform). So we were told that we would go to a reversing siding just outside of Niederrad. So we set off.
The driver stopped at Niederrad to allow passengers off. however some additional passengers, heading to the airport, got on thinking it was the S8. No announcement was made telling them otherwise.
We proceeded to the siding and stopped there whilst the driver changed ends. The driver then announced that we were going back to Ffm Hbf. This caused some confusion...
We set off, but clearly the signal control staff had other ideas. We we ran through Niederrad, and were diverted off of the route to travel through the storage yards at Griesheim.
The airport passengers got off, now realising that they were on the wrong side of the river and would have to go back to Ffm to find another train to the airport and probably be late for check-in. Our train carried on to its' proper destination.
I got off at Nied about 45 minutes later than planned.... It made a change from the usually "everything works like clockwork" day..
Now that could make for an interesting scenario...

What exactly do you mean with “existing players”? I would certainly hope that all players are existing, somehow. And as this is not an extension to another route, why should certain players get a lower price in the first place?!

 

It's a completely new route. There are no 'existing players'.

I wouldn't be too sanguine. Since the logical negation of Cogito ergo sum is Non cogito ergo non sum, I fear some of our forum posters may not exist.

 

I’m having trouble getting too excited for this route. It looks amazing on paper… but when I see a preview that talks about tons of traffic, lots of different locos and layers, in my head that translates to: this route is going to run terrible and be full of blurring texture issue that they can’t seem to fix (if they are even bothering).

Love the look of the route but definitely going to wait for feedback on if there’s even a point to getting it on PS5.
