Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition! The theme for this week is: Unusual Power Feel free to interpret the theme however you wish. The more obvious choices are freight pulled Amtrak or vice versa, or certain rail tours in the UK. This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition. Rules: TSC only shots allowed. Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes. You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish. 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory. Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves). The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge). The Judge of the week's decision is final. We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries will close at 10PM GMT on Saturday, April 12th 2025 and will be judged by me - Andras In the event of this week's winner not responding by 10PM GMT on Sunday, April 13th 2025, a new thread will be created using the results of this week's poll.
The extraordinary Union Pacific Railroad GTEL Third Generation '18' seen parked up in the sidings at Cheyenne Yard, Laramie in the United States of America after a quick braking trial nearby on the Laramie Subdivision of the Overland Route. '18' was a member of the third generation units in the Union Pacific GTEL fleet which was a highly unusual group of locomotives powered by gas turbine engines built in production from 1952-1961 by General Electric (GE) with a partnership with the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) in the earlier years of production. They consisted of the leading driving locomotive, the gas turbine engine in the second unit and the third unit of the locomotive setup was a fuel tender. The GTEL Third Generation is one of the most powerful locomotive types in the world rated at 8,500 horsepower (6,300 kW) and lasted in service until the 1970s. Narrow gauge railways in the world often have some very unusual power at their disposal due to narrow gauge railways often meeting very specific needs that larger gauge lines cannot. Here at Maespoeth, Wales in the United Kingdom Corris Railway Motor Rail Simplex 4wDM '22258' 'No5' 'Alan Meaden' is seen sitting stationary utilising a manual tranmission, clutch included with even a wind up handle required to start the engine. Arriving into the area is Corris Railway Clayton Equipment Company 4wBE 'B0457' 'Clayton' 'Aberllefenni' after having just pushed the Corris Railway gravity train service up to Corris. The locomotive is Battery Electric powered and was once used for slate quarry work. The Rhaetian Railway ABe 8/12 puts down an unusually high amount of power for their size! These small EMUs running on 1,000mm (3 ft 3 3⁄8 in) gauge built by Stadler Rail can output over 3,000 horsepower (over 2,237 kW) and are often seen on the Bernina Railway Line hauling both passenger and freight conquering the extremely steep gradients with ease. Here Rhaetian Railway ABe 8/12 '3514' 'Stevan Brunies' which entered service in 2011 is seen heading north hauling both passengers and freight through Switzerland after having began from Tirano, Italy. Slow week alert bump. Looks like spring has sprung. One person taking first, second and third place would be history.
Hi all, sadly my main TSC PC has died and won't even fire up, think the power supply has fried itself, so am waiting patiently for the replacement upgrade PC to arrive. Until then I am only able to access archive screenshots from my old Hard Drive, so please excuse my absence from my usual contributions to this thread. Unusual power comes in the form of the BRGT3. The GT3 was part of a programme for the development of gas turbine locomotives started in the late 1940s. Designed by English Electric engineer JOP Hughes, construction of the GT3 began in the early 1950s at their Vulcan Foundry works in Newton-le-Willows. The 2,700hp EM27L Gas Turbine was a two-stage gas turbine with a mechanical gearbox driving directly to the wheels, most efficient when running at high speed. It was also incredibly lightweight, so much so that the locomotive’s frames were three times thicker than those on similarly sized steam locomotives simply to add weight so it could have the required traction.
The desk of the wonderful Class 73, multiple choice of traction of either diesel or 3rd rail electric. This type is unusual in that it can operate on the Southern Region's 650 / 750 V DC third rail power supply, or an onboard diesel engine to allow it to be used on non-electrified routes.
Good mornings! Sorry to hear about your technical loss, Craigie. Had the same about a year ago myself. Being in a mid-spring mood I enjoyed the fluff contrast and bold colours of both Bernina and Corris. The EMU as a goods locomotive is also unusual indeed. The GT3 looks interesting and it appears rather powerful for its time. Must be a joy to drive. Hopefully no flameout in tunnels, the UK has aplenty The very autumnal mood of the picture is both a contrast and a friendly message to Blazin down under. 3rd choice I really like this Corris scene, period. 2nd choice The GT3 looks interesting and it appears rather powerful for its time. With Craigie-C 's issues it might make sense to give him another week off posting, but of course I'm usually digging archives, too.
Thank you very much for 3rd and 1st place and congratulations to Craigie-C for 2nd place! I'll have the next thread up in the next 8-12 hours or so. Theme will simply be Freestyle so anyone can have at it with what they want. I'll come back here with the link when I've set it up during that 8-12 hour period if all goes well.
