Did they mention when the next core update is there somethings now that are really grating on me now.
There has been very little to no information on any recent roadmap regarding significant core updates. The cynic in me expects most effort is going to be directed towards TSW6 or whatever comes out in September. TSW5 doesn’t even appear to be getting a sticking plaster now. So frustrating. I fired up Boston to Providence yesterday evening with the Amtrak electric and even that is constantly sound squelching as it goes along. It never used to run or sound like this so aging hardware has nothing to do with it. There is something fundamentally wrong with the base game. What’s the point of going for the monthly Mastery if the experience is so bad as to be unenjoyable.
What does sound squelching sound like cause I play on xbox and it sounds fine to unless I'm missing something
The sound distorts as the game micro stutters and applies an effect like someone smacking their lips to it. Worst offender is the Class 87 on WCML Shap which is why, despite being one of the best routes in the game, I find it largely unplayable. More noticeable with electric traction than diesel as it’s distorting what should be a smooth sound.
You’ll know when the major core update is coming when a Dovetail Direct gets announced. It’ll come with TSW6. As for if it’ll fix the bugs currently reported on? I don’t know. I just hope it’s in a better state at release than TSW5 was, especially the UK route.
Besides the stream Harry is doing tonight they have been rather quiet since the roadmap, hopefully they’ll been more active next week
Since you saying this I have to play the 47 runs on BPO with the windows open because of the popping sound which is frustrating. I swear it's gotten worse the last few weeks? Never really noticed it before
I fear you may be right. Although I also still have a bit of hope in me. The recent Zwolle - Groningen route seems to run pretty smooth on all machines, so I hope they'll use whatever they've learned there to update the other routes currently suffering from perfomance issues. But that may just be wishful thinking and trying to come up with an explanation why it's taking DTG so long.
The only core updates were: Removed negative scoring caused by safety system speed enforcements so they work as intended. • Various smaller HUD and UI improvements. This update was more about individual add ons. Seems they also fixed the tail light issue on the 377 and 387, years after I first reported it. Credit where its due I guess.
yeah the core was barely touched, still got the "On Foot" issue with the schedule and the filters still can't be selected
Core issues show no sign of disappearing anytime soon... One has to wonder who is incharge with core improvement directions at this stage in the games life.
I get the impression whatever programming talent they have got is plucking the low hanging fruit at this point. The same problems which promulgate across all routes such as stuttering and sound distortion must be in the core, not the same fault on each and every route past and present.
I burst out laughing while reading today's update notes. Once again no love for Mittenwaldbahn. I'm starting to think that DTG might be shunning TSG on purpose. Considering that the update brought (tiny) fixes for the BR 204 and Rapid Transit of all routes, we might have to wait some 4-5 more years for the Mittenwald patch(es)...
Still a bit disappointed no scenic fixes are up for Cardiff yet. Which is still the main reason stopping me from buying it. Especially if the JT pacer is going to bail out another poor timetable in a similar way to SHG with the 158
Yes I think your right there. Anytime any valid points are made surrounding core issues and quality control, we get the default managerial "Well the game is selling X amount of numbers" answer too which is grating at times.
Yep, same on PS5. It either shows ‘on foot’ or works for one timetable service but won’t clear if you transfer to a new service.
If you spawn directly into a train, you can see the schedule. If spawning on foot and taking over a train, you can't (unless you pause the game to see it).
I'm not waiting for an update, but rather a new game, this one is so full of bugs. The worst part? The stuttering is unplayable, and to think you have to do a first run for it to be better is the biggest shambles in history.
Well I still think that's a bit of a myth created regarding the shaders to try and offset the performance complaints. I've had routes stuttering just the same after running through them several times!
It said it fix the ability to turn Thomas headlight on with a controller (xbox one) NOPE...No option appears any where on or around his headlight to turn it on.But at least diesils top center light has this option.Goody guess we now know who dtg cares about being enlightened.
We'll see what the state of the Frankfurt track will be. It's supposed to be only for new consoles, if there are still bugs it will ultimately mean that this game engine can't handle it (or Dovetail programmers). At the moment I have problems on every track with textures, stutters...
Glad to see this finally addressed. Just a bit frustrating that it took the release of the Netherlands route to spark action, considering LIRR players were dealing with this same problem over a year ago with no response.
can someone who owns the zwolle-groningen route tell me what kind of changes were made to the sng sprinter (I read the patch notes but I would like to know more in depth)
I’m pretty sure it’s a full timetable? In terms of playable services, Cardiff is empty most of the time though.
I'm sure it was confirmed in the official article it isn't a full 1:1 timetable hence some of the disappointment outside of the quality.
I received it this morning. It says allow up to 24 hours. You could try restarting steam and stuff like that
Just read an article on the Cardiff route and it actually says that services that are run by the 197s, 231s, and 67s are represented, so I don’t know where you got that.
I agree with Vern. It is that time again where most of the attention goes towards the new version and the old one becomes almost abandoned. So at this point its just hoping the glaring issues are fixed for the next version. And pretty much what we have is it for this one.
Oh, the irony! I notice in today's patch that the flying cars around Meppel have been grounded, accompanied by some strange remark about " not being that far into the future ". Perhaps the poster is too new to know, but we've had flying cars, trucks and school buses in American routes for years. We pretty much expect to see them. Guess we here in the US are way ahead of the rest of the TSW universe. Seriously, if it's that fast and easy, why haven't they been fixed?
Really, Ren? That is just about the most pitiful, cliched excuse you have come out with in your history of unwavering Dovetail defence. I rather hope the software that’s keeping my Trans Atlantic flight aloft is free of bugs. Ditto the signalling systems protecting me when I hurtle at 125 MPH on a GWR cucumber up to Paddington or the engine management of my Yaris when I’m in the outside lane on the M4 at 69.9 MPH overtaking a bunch of heavy trucks. And the difference is, most software companies actually employ people qualified to maintain and fix the code. Those people know the code and how it relates to the particular application. In return for the > £1000 or more some of us have sunk into the game, Dovetail appear to be bereft of any of that. They shrug their shoulders and pretty much admit the thing has got away from them; that’s if they even respond at all to the searching questions. Or make promises such as adding more save game slots etc. which are never heard of again.
What is DTG stance on core updates? Is it small updates that happen often or larger updates that only happen 5 times a year? The problems with the core are not going away, in fact they seem to be getting worse? Suddenly TSW 6 will appear with the promise of improvements? Ground hog day anyone? TSW 4 was a car crash, TSW 5 had a UK route that is unplayable on my 9.5 gen console, I played it yesterday and I thought I pushed the pause button the frame rates where that bad travelling from Euston to Wealdstone as a passenger, like WTF? The ratio of DLC to Core fixes are not keeping up, TSW is simply not being maintained at this point, DLCs are way ahead to the point where DTG will never get ahead of it. Around a year and a half ago I said DTG need to stop making DLC and focus on fixing TSW and some players didn't like that statement because it impacted on DTG financials, but here we are with a new version of TSW, several DLCs in and now the problems are so big that it is now probably not financially viable for that company to fix all those problems.
I've come to the conclusion that all DTG care about now is making money cutting corners wherever they can, churning out DLC after DLC that really no one asked for. what we asked for was a better game experience by fixing core bugs and that was completey ignored so I think we will have to just get used playing on very buggy game.
Many people here in the forums reached that conclusion by now, me included, but DTG still refuses to listen. Sometimes I wonder, why even bother setting up a forum if criticism isn't acknowledged. Sure, there are quite an amount of haters around too, but there's also a good deal of positive, constructive criticism. That's what worries me too. If TSW6 is going to be a literal train wreck in terms of core functionality, or at least no significant improvement over the current situation, fans might finally start to vote with their wallets. No amount of DLCs can save a game which is so broken that nobody is buying it anyway...
Vote with wallets? Already doing it. Preston-Carlisle over Shap was last new route I bought and there's been lots released since then. I could have even bought a couple with vouchers received at Christmas - thus saving my own money - but elected to use those on a different game.
Similar here. Last DLC I bought was the Dutch route but only because I wanted to support the new region. Everything else is just pretty much meh at the moment. Only exception I might make is anything from JT or TSG but even that becomes hard to justify without some core updates. I’m looking forward to the Class 86 and Mark 2 aircon pack, but if the 86 suffers the same sound squelching not sure I want to bother. Price wise too… I just spent the princely sum of £5.99 for Season 15 of Snowrunner aka the two Quebec maps. I know they will give me countless hours of entertainment.
