Thinking of buying this as it discounted rn.
Need to know, is it any good basically. I like US routes that have saftey systems and I like short stopping services too. Are the sounds good also? Lmk your thoughts on this route. Please.

I got it a few days ago and i've been happy with it so far. The route quality is decent and the sounds are pretty good. I'd say it's worth it on sale

Safety systems are on by default and cannot be disabled.
It has many stops, as a dense commuter route. It has a good bit of variety too, as it has four major termini, and an additional short side branch to Hempstead, with all the routes between them passing through Jamaica.

I definitely consider it a worthwhile addition to your collection if passenger routes are your thing. A hard pass if all you're interested in is long distance freight, but that doesn't sound like you describe yourself.

It's ok as others said you have to learn the rather annoying safety systems and also the scenery is quite poor in my opinion but it's alright

It’s one of the most satisfying routes in TSW and currently the only commuter style route I routinely play.

Jamaica at rush hour when you have the M9, M7, and M3 is delightfully dense.

Great route that filtered a lot of people who couldn’t/wouldn’t learn what the signals were telling them to do

TBF I just learned where the various speed limits that weren't consistent with the dashboard readouts were by trial and error and committed them to memory XD

The remaster has transformed a very average route into one of the best experiences in the game.

It's not perfect, New York City looks more like a small town than a major city and it should have some diesel and freight elements for its time stamp. Plus there are some missing branches.

But I would recommend it if you enjoy commuter rail.

I’ve not got the m3 yet, does it add a lot more?

I wouldn't say a lot more, but it does add a good ammount. You will see it probably at least once per run. And it will have playable services on pretty much all branches.

If on PS4 it tends to crash a lot near Jamaica but other than that, I agree with what is said above.

Adds substitution/variety but not additional services, if I remember correctly. And I don’t believe the M3 is beholden to the safety systems on that route; I think you can actually turn them off, unlike in the M7 and M9.

It’s also just enjoyable to drive, it’s a classic. I used to love when I’d get to ride in the M3s as a kid. Sure the M7s were new and comfy at the time, but I thought the M3’s interior had so much character. The blue and red/maroon seats, etc

That was the case for the old LIRR route. But on the new route it has it's own set of services.

Anyone know why the M9s only go to long beach in the morning and evenings and not during the day. Thanks

The remaster is not a bad route apart from the frustrating slow sections and the mandatory safety systems. Though the M3 seems to have been overlooked in that respect… Also with the M3, rumoured the sounds were reused from a TSC BR third rail commuter train.

Anyhow, IMHO better than Harlem and with the MTA stance on putting NYC Subway in game, the closest we will get to Big Apple urban driving.

Got the route in the current PS sale. I’m not a huge fan of commuter routes but I had the original and was intrigued enough by the prospect of proper safety systems implementation. I’ve yet to regret my purchase. It’s a interesting, busy route and somehow keeps me more engaged than Harlem, which I’ve barely played despite owning it for some time. I think the network style adds a lot to it compared to the A-B Harlem.

Quick run yesterday evening but those safety systems are maddening. Approaching Jamaica I anticipated the reduction to 15 MPH but despite crawling the last 3/4 of a mile and mashing the Q key every few seconds I still got hit with an emergency brake application. So I suspect once I finish the run, the route will be going back to the (almost) bottom of the playlist.

I also noted it too is now susceptible to the stuttering and sound squelchies so the rot seems to be spreading.

Did you brake hard enough? I’m still finding my way around the safety systems, but since I’ve started putting the throttle/brake handle to about 60% braking force and pressing acknowledge once before and once after, I haven’t had any emergency brakes anymore, so that seems to work.

My speed was already down to 15 so the TBC was in Coast, which is why I couldn’t understand the penalty brake.

Such a shame as with the rework the route itself is now very nice.

You must be doing something wrong, because I don't have issues with the safety systems. They work fine.

Recommend keeping to at least one mph below the indicated speed limit at all times tbh

It probably was and I was still a distance from the actual 15 MPH commencement point.

Yes, I really don't have any problems with the safety systems, but I do drive well below the posted speed limits and keep one foot on the brake so to speak.

Plus, as with any route, just like a real driver, the more you drive, the learning curve tends to flatten out.

OldVern, that sounds very odd. While I have had the occasional trouble, I never had a situation in which it wasn't clear to me what I had done wrong. If it happens again, perhaps you can share a recording or screenshots at least? It's always easier to troubleshoot that way.

Well having finished my run into Penn, it's gone back in the toy box for another month or two!
