I *think* the 225 services were on their own layer in the selector (and run by 801s in game) so it may be possibly to simply swap them out. I do see what you mean about the modelling though - surely the way around it is to release it as an expect loco, or as you said a new route with that loco, or even just a loco DLC at for example £14.99 rather than £11.99. There are ways around it, and I just hope DLC use them before it's too late. They are frequently posting or commenting about it on their TikTok for example
Back to the actual JT project in development. Is it me or we still not had any images of the buffet car?!
That’s because you didn’t go for motion capture yet Vern - they can’t show off their buffet car without their star attendant!
And not to mention and this also bugs the hell out of me to no end. They got 5 car 801 IETs wrong because the 2nd coach was suppose to be a buffet coach yet they replaced it with a wrong existing coach. :/ We are getting the mk2 buffet too right? Or is it gonna be a mk1 kitchen car?
ah, a much well needed addition to the Mk1 fleet (once again because DTG couldnt be dafted to make more variants of the Mk1 coach...)
As far as I'm aware no Mark 2 buffet cars were ever built, but there were conversions later on. I think they were First Great Western's work though, so much later than this route is set.
Yes they just converted a couple of seating bays into a small counter area, not a unique body like the RMB or other Mark One vehicles. Designated BSOT and TSOT.
Intercity Cross country got a batch of FO rebuilds that became RFOs. Late 80s onwards IIRC. Some mark 2s also had space for small counters or trollies built in. But correct that none were built from new and yes Great Western did some conversions also. There was too the Sleeper Lounge vehicles which again had similarities to the Cross Country conversion but the seats were loose.
The TSOT's I certainly encountered on Waterloo to Exeter services in the Mark 2 none aircon formations.
They never made MK2 catering coaches for England originally due to just how many MK1 buffet and kitchen cars already existed, the same as was the case with the BG coaches, and they were still relatively new at the time. Only the Irish MK2D coaches had buffet cars from new. As stated above, MK2 buffet cars came later on. In the early 80s some MK2C coaches were converted into micro-buffets (TSOTs which mainly served the purpose of holding supplies for a catering trolley) for the Pennine and western region trains, and some MK2Ds were converted to micro-buffets for use in the Scottish push-pull sets around Edinburgh and Glasgow. It was then at the end of the 80s with one more batch in '91 that MK2F buffet cars were converted for the Crosscountry sets, these finally being more full sized buffets as had once been seen in the MK1s. I could be wrong here, but I believe the FGW buffet cars were made from the MK2D TSOT coaches brought down from Scotland by modifying them to extend the buffet area with a static counter. So they weren't new conversions, but rather they were further modifications to the TSOTs that already existed. This is probably why afaik there is only one micro-buffet left today, and I believe it's somewhere in the West Coast Railways fleet. So on the subject of the 86 pack, there is no reality in which a MK2 buffet would have found its way onto the WCML in 1986. Even in privatisation it never happened, the catering stock jumped from MK1 straight to MK3.
I reckon that's from the XC sets, though that still wouldn't apply to the 86 pack as the XC ones were modified to buffets from 1988 to 1991, after the setting of the route.
They came out of conversion in IC livery. The Blue Grey is a recent repaint to make a charter set look uniform.
Yeah pretty much every coach coming out of the works by the late 80s was in one of the sectorised liveries, so the blue and grey is definitely a preservation era repaint. The coach itself however would have most likely originated from either the XC or FGW conversions.
How suspiciously long there is no news about the locomotive... Are they really preparing for release already?)
I have more faith in this appearing than train packs from other developers... However my big caveat is that without some improvement to the core and how the sounds are going to be played, it's going to be another squelch fest when driving which leaves a dilemma as obviously I want the Mk2 aircons and of course the RMB!
They’ve dropped monthly updates on their blog about the progress so pretty confident we’ll see it sooner rather than later.
JTs content isn't usually vapourware, give them time and it'll be released when it's ready... The 86 will be out in a few months along with the accompanying Mk2s and it'll be worth the wait.
The announcement this month was for the Welsh 142, so that's probably just taken the place of any information for the 86 and stock.
On top of the modelling, scripting, audio. Take into account the timetable work that will be involved. I wouldn't put it past JT to rework Bpool Branches and Preston Carlisle to incorporate loco swaps and the new coaches. To me its a much bigger job than adding a TFW 142 to Cardiff.
Actually what you show there is two sides of the same vehicle design. The RMB's were built with the two small fixed windows opposite the counter area with the solid wall behind the staff serving/pantry section.
Was just typing about that. And they aren't anywhere near the only asymmetric designs, the Mk1 RU and RB(R) are similar, as are most if not all of the Mk2/3/4 Restaurant Coaches.
JT are making some promising moves.. the 142 soon to be released in ex-Arriva livery would mark the first contemporary loco they’ve produced for TSW. It shows that they’re more than willing to provide ‘their’ stock for alternate routes / alternate developers for the right price. It makes financial sense, but also pleases the crowd! I wonder if this will now lead to the 86, and / or the 87, being modified for use on other contemporary routes (WCMLS) or even future routes (Crewe teaser route)? It certainly sets a precedent for expectations!
Where did we hear they had a FLT licence? If true that opens the door for a Class 70, also something around the Mendip Quarry traffic which I believe Freightliner took over from DBS a few years back.
When WCMLOS was released it had the Freightliner containers and Matt said they had the license I think everything up until the newest yellow/green livery? But JT were able to get it into the containers which was cool! But again unsure of the specifics
I'm just looking forward to Skyhooks and Just Trains stuff at the moment. It would also be great to see a Freightliner 66. Properly modelled in and out. But 86, 08, 90 would also be great as well. Hentis https://fb.watch/y_9lHAXFg4/
Exactly my thoughts. Once TSW6 is out and the core issues are (hopefully) resolved (or replaced by other new issues) we might be seeing a contemporary AC freight pack from JT. No brainer really.
I'm just hoping with the 86/2 coming someone might do a sectorised or early privatisation era GEML at some point
Compared to March where 4? pieces of DLC came out, April is a little boring so far with nothing interesting out yet. Hopefully we get an update on the 86 and a release date for Cargo Line 3 soon
Would it be better to have them spread it out, or release as ready? Serious question. Would you rather 4 releases then none, or 2 per month by spreading them out?
I remember Tom saying a while back on a stream, that the reason the Heysham Branch was not driveable on WCMLoS, is because "the correct wagons don't exist in TSW yet" Wish I could remember which YouTube video it was. Think it was either one of the WCMLoS preview streams, or the one where he demonstrated route hopping, after driving the class 142 from Ormskirk to Preston.... But don't quote me on that as my memory is awful. I'm hoping that we get the Windermere branch when the class 86/2 drops, and maybe Athena Simulations are working with Just Trains on wagons for the Heysham Branch. Jane said they had a lot of stuff coming for that time period during the recent ECML Class 47 preview stream, and that they worked closely with JT on 47 484. Sleepers would be nice too.... Yep, sorry I'm rambling again.
I still hope when we get the class 86/2 we finally can get some electric harrendale quarry workings using modified backdated versions of the JNA wagons from SEHS. Which were long and very common back in the day plus it would add more freight to the scene which is very lacking between Carlisle and Preston.
Probably to the fact that we dont have Railfreight Branded VDA/VGA /OBA's vans & wagons plus other assorted period wagons. Hopefully at some point we will. Would love to see some of the old IWB's and IGA wagons Hentis
I would definitely love to see some heritage Cargoline style packs to flesh out the BR era routes some more. Feels like we've barely scratched the surface with BR era freight.
Seeing all the pictures of the Locomotive Services Limited (LSL) “Company Train” out and about this week on the network, around the railway web and FB sites made me think the Mark 2’s could form the basis for part of the train in TSW. My wife and I actually saw it on Thursday afternoon when it was hauled by their Class 57 which looked and sounded absolutely superb. Of course the consist is a mixed bag of Mark 2 aircons, Mark Ones and a couple of Mark Three Sleeping cars but what a train to drop in as a tour on our modern UK routes… See below (not my image) for inspiration:-
