Within TSW DLC, layers from other add-ons enhance the experience in timetable mode, often making the routes feel a lot busier. However, a lot of older routes still have missing rolling stock that could be added in, either as playable or AI. I have compiled a list of some examples that I can remember, focusing on the UK as that is the main area of knowledge. Layers that require no change to the train itself will be shown in green. Layers that require a change to the train, e.g. a different livery will be shown in red. Layers that could be added in semi-fictionally, for example Scotrail 156 services ran by 158s, to make the route feel busier are shown in blue. Great Western Express: (I understand some of this is coming in a future update) North London Line AI using the class 377 and 378 GWR and Heathrow express services using the class 387 Class 350 and 700 reskinned as SWT 450 and 707 for AI at Reading Northern Trans-Pennine: Class 31; in all honesty I have no idea what services these would have run The class 142 could also be layered in, but doesn't fit the era by a few years Tees Valley Line: Class 142 substitution for the 101 East Coastway: Class 387 for Gatwick Express AI at Brighton Class 700 for Thameslink AI at Brighton Class 166 for GWR AI at Brighton Class 150 for GWR AI at Brighton Class 158 for GWR AI at Brighton Bakerloo Line: All stock from the current WCML south, as well as the class 378 and 710 for AI on the above-ground section Southeastern High Speed: Class 378 for North London Line AI near St. Pancras Class 801 for ECML AI near St. Pancras Brighton Main Line: Class 700 for Thameslink services along the route Class 378 for Overground AI at Clapham Junction and near East Croydon Reskinned class 350 in SWT colours for AI at Clapham Junction Class 150 for GWR AI at Brighton Class 158 for GWR AI at Brighton Birmingham Cross City: Class 350 for LNWR AI at Birmingham New Street Class 390 for Avanti AI at Birmingham New Street Class 150 for TFW AI at Birmingham New Street Class 170 for WMT services towards Worcester Class 153 for TFW AI at Birmingham New Street (I'm not sure if the 153s go there but could be added in for variety nevertheless) Glossop Line: Class 390 for Avanti AI at Manchester Piccadilly Class 150 for Northern AI at Manchester Piccadilly, as well as playable Rose Hill services Class 150 & 153 for TFW AI at Piccadilly, however these services would have been run by 175s but this is the best we've got. ECML Peterborough to Doncaster: Class 150 & 158 for Northern AI at Retford & Doncaster Class 170 for EMR AI at Peterborough, Grantham and Doncaster Class 170 for Cross Country AI at Peterborough Class 387 for Great Northern AI at Peterborough Class 801 in Hull Trains colours Class 801 in Lumo colours for AI services since they don't stop anywhere on the route. Gospel Oak to Barking: Class 387 for C2C AI at Barking Isle of Wight tube stock for District line AI at Barking Feel free to suggest ones I've missed, I will try to update the post.
Missing a lot here for ECML with the rolling stock in game across numerous DLC Class 170s repainted to represent EMR as drivable services as well as AI Peterborough, Grantham & AI in/out of Doncaster Class 380s repainted to represent Great Northern AI services for Peterborough (Peak times and weekday evenings only) Class 710s repainted to represent Greater Anglia AI only (Ely to Peterborough Line) Class 801s repainted to represent Hull Trains as drivable services as well as AI and Lumo as AI only Im secretly hoping this line gets the mod treatment like WCML has with 2024 + 2019 TT! If only the scenery was remastered to 2020+ even though timetable remained to what they are doing this would have opened so many options with TT modes, allowing for a more modern take on the line!
Sadly I don't believe that Line uses class 720s since it isn't electrified. I guess a class 170 could be reskinned into Greater Anglia colours to represent this service though.
Some long overdue suggestions here. All very worthy of inclusion. Aside from the classes mentioned, there are various types in need of adding as dlc as they are obviously missing from the relevant routes with seemingly little interest from any devs to create said types. A flurry of new locomotive dlcs would be most welcome at this point.
Class 350 and 700 AI at Reading to be reskinned to represent SWR class 450 and 707. The 700 being reduced to 5 cars to have a more accurate representation of the 707
Here's a full update for the ECML Class 150 & 158 for Northern AI at Retford & Doncaster Class 158 Sprinter repainted East Midland Regional Class 170s repainted to represent EMR as drivable services as well as AI Peterborough, Grantham & AI only in/out of Doncaster Class 170 repainted Cross Country as AI only Peterborough Class 700 thameslink AI only services Class 387 (got this mixed up with the 380) repainted to represent Great Northern AI only services for Peterborough (Peak times and weekday evenings only) Class 801 Azuma LNER including their pride livery + Railway 200 Darlington livery Class 801 repainted to represent Hull Trains as drivable services as well as AI Class 801 repainted in Lumo livery as AI only Class66 freight and then anything available for Rail tours Unfortunately nothing out there for Grand Central and unsure on TransPennine rolling stock in and out of Doncaster
Cheers updated the list I suppose you could use an 801 painted in TPE livery since they look more or less the same as a class 802
Anything in the 800 class can definitely use the 801 as it'll be for AI only.. just wasn't sure which class TPE used into Doncaster Northern use 150s/158s/170s and 331s (We may/hopefully see 331s with Manchester Airport DLC?) in and out of Doncaster as well Looked into it and TPE use their 185s but they aren't in the game (maybe we see 185s with Manchester Airport DLC?) Im not from the UK so using some of the Trainspotter vids to get this info..either way if a new TT could be done with some of the rolling stock in game, even just as AI it'll just liven up the immersion for the ECML route from Azuma's and class66
To my knowledge TPE 802 don't call at Doncaster in service (but I think they may go into Doncaster Carr IEP depot) The only passenger TPE service at Doncaster is Liverpool Lime Street to Cleethorpes, which uses 185s. As regards to Northern 331s at Doncaster running the Leeds service, I've heard that 333s are soon to put back on that service. (Also the Glossop 323 layers as AI to represent this service currently) Edit; Hull Trains services (and one southbound Grand Central which I believe is the only one to call at Peterborough) are currently drivable with the 801.
