I'm missing something here. Why the route hop point at Paddington and not Reading ?

Given the fact that DTG Matt didn't want a route-hop point between Wivelsfield on London Commuter and Lewes on East Coastway, I wonder what is different to allow route-hopping between GWE and the Cardiff route.

I suspect Liam wasn’t being entirely serious about this…

End to end of a route (Paddington - Cardiff or Paddington - Penzance) seemed fitting than points along the way.

More comfortable than five and a half hours on a GWR “cucumber”… Just have to hope the teleport doesn’t malfunction, like the first attempt at sending the monkey through in “The Fly” (the Cronenberg remake, not the original), or Star Trek TMP - “What we go back didn’t live very long… fortunately” :)

DTG Liam could you put Bishop Lydeard (west somerset railway) on the route hop at Paddington as well. Although we don't have Taunton in the game, trains do connect from Taunton to Bishop Lydeard or prehaps a route hop to Norton Fitzwarren from paddington?

I think I’m still in a slight state of shock at how poor a replacement the IETs are for the HSTs. I know they were getting to the stage of having to be replaced, but they really messed up with those things. (Sorry, slightly OT)

I'm still waiting for the route hop from Barking Riverside to Zwolle.

Better yet just get rid of the route hop markers and implement the ability to teleport to any route and station you want

A good suggestion I saw for instead of hop markers is to have a member of staff you can go and speak to. That wouldn't break the immersion and would seem very natural.

While the route hop marker design can't be changed, they have been placed in logical places to help keep a form of immersion. For example the one to the Bakerloo line is at the Underground entrance on platform 11 while the Cardiff/Penzance one is next to a ticket machine.

I do feel if you give some people an inch they'll take a mile of adding ridiculous ideas...

As Liam has just stated, the hopping points should only be placed in logical places that have relevance to the route.

Any chance of nagging the people in charge to give us the ability to hide the markers? They are the only in-game markers that can’t be hidden and they are an eyesore especially at night. They might be nice for people who like the gimmicky nature of what they do or fans of immovable radioactive Daleks but for me (and I dare say many other players) they are just spoiling the view of a growing number of stations across the game. This was feedback given on the first day we saw them and we can still see them all the time now.

Except that route hopping doesn't have you travel through time and space. Just the same time and spot in another DLC :)

I suppose technically it does, as not all the linked routes are set in exactly the same time period.

Now that opens potential for some paradoxes…

Guess I should add 'time travel' to the remaster's feature list, with hops to Cardiff in the modern era and Penzance in the 90's. All gets a bit wibbly wobbly timey wimey

Well, we already came up with the idea of something like simply a railway employee you would talk to, which Matt liked and promised to implement around.. seven months ago. Yeah.

Never used the " hopping " feature and don't think I ever will. Maybe it saves you a click or two when changing from one route to another, but it's just another gimmicky notion instead of a feature with real utility.

It's there because some bright spark thought it was cool, not because any of us asked for it.

Multiple, reliable saves would be cool, too. Ever thought of that DTG?

Route hopping would be useful in this scenario….
You arrive in to Preston from Blackpool. While seated in the loco you select route hop and that positions you exactly where you are on WCMLoS with the same train so that you can begin a session on that route (obvs you’d need to run your loco around first before setting off!).

Except BPO uses a weekend timetable and WCMLoS does not, so even if route hopping worked like that it would not be possible sadly...

And how many more seconds to exit that BPO service, pick one from WCMLOS and hit " get started "?

Notwithstanding the fact that I wouldn't have time in one session to run two consecutive services.

I hope you appreciate that some of the above suggestions were not serious. Mine was just a light-hearted dig at DTG for the lack of an East Anglian route to fill the gap between London and the Netherlands.

The timetables are still virtually the same.

I've gone between these routes countless times by route hopping, and the majority of services I've seen at Preston arriv3led and departed at the same time on both routes.

At some point the physics got changed (corrected) to tame the acceleration but the timetable didn’t get adjusted to match. Hopefully the remaster will address that.

On the subject of route hopping, it would be nice to be able to select a timetable when you route hop, it just defaults to the standard timetable if there's more than one timetable, e.g. on WCMLs

Is it the one that comes with WCML South? The headlights on that one are dodgy. Overly bright, even on TOD4 routes and they look like they're off on the model until you're literally 5cm away from the locomotive.

I had this. If you were running on GWE then you were probably using a newer version of the 66, that has the Tod 4 lighting. Its because GWE isnt TOD 4 compatible yet :)

I'd say as trains they are pretty good. The only thing that is a letdown on the GWR IETs is the seating. Avanti's 805s are quite nice I find.

    ...yet
With some 166's set up as 165's in the remaster timetable you will see various formation lengths with lots of coupling/uncoupling throughout the day.
