As part of level 1, I must get the 710 up to 80mph. However, I've tried to do this on multiple occasions and it doesn't increase past 78. I'm just wondering whether I am doing something wrong, or whether this is a mastery issue
I managed this. Start a service from Barking Riverside. When its ready to leave, move the throttle to full power and let it run. You'll reach 80mph in no time.
Actually I think you can do it with any train, spawn in a Pendolino or Azuma in free roam. But the whole premise of this achievement is absurd, in a game which flashes up messages about safety and enforces the use of safety systems on LIRR, to then encourage exceeding the line speed by a significant amount. I somehow doubt TfL and the train operators signed off on that one!
The highest speed limit on the entire route is 55mph, and that's only for a short section between Gospel Oak and Upper Holloway. For the rest it's between 30 and 45. So, whoever decided on 80mph for the mastery (which is over half the speed limit for most of the route) clearly doesn't care about breaking speed limits (and as far as I'm aware going over the speed limit by that amount is a serious incident that would have serious consequences in real life). The mastery would've been better off been about trying to get the 55mph, it's a short enough section that makes it a challenge, whilst also keeping within the route's max speed.
