    Hello, Dovetail Games Team,

I’d like to suggest the inclusion of the P42DC (Amtrak Genesis) in Train Sim World for both the Pacific Surfliner and Cajon Pass routes.

Pacific Surfliner: The Pacific Surfliner, which runs between Los Angeles and San Diego, is one of the most iconic passenger routes in California. It would be fantastic to see the P42DC integrated into this route. The Surfliner is an essential part of Amtrak’s California services, and the P42DC is the main locomotive used on this route, pulling the Superliner and Horizon cars. The scenic coastal sections, combined with the lively urban areas, would make for a compelling and immersive experience in Train Sim World.

    Why P42DC for Surfliner?

The P42DC is the primary locomotive used on the Pacific Surfliner alongside the new Siemens Chargers providing an authentic representation of this route.

Scenic coastal views along the Pacific Ocean make this an exciting and visually stunning route to simulate.

Cajon Pass (Amtrak Southwest Chief): Another idea I’d like to propose is incorporating the P42DC into the Cajon Pass route for the Southwest Chief. The Cajon Pass is a major route used by Amtrak’s Southwest Chief between Los Angeles and Chicago, and the P42DC would be a perfect fit to represent this. The route’s challenging grades and scenic views through the San Bernardino Mountains would offer a unique and engaging experience, especially with a passenger service like the Southwest Chief.
3 of the routes stations are on the Cajon Pass route already:

    San Bernadino
    Victorville
    Barstow

Could this be possible to add onto cajon as timetables between those 3 stations? or create a whole new routing off the cajon pass route but extend south beyond San Bernadino on BNSF tracks through Fullerton (serving Fullerton Station) and on to Union Station... if thats possible at all? It would then look like this:

    LA Union Station
    Fullerton
    San Bernadino
    Victorville
    Barstow

AI can take over the train eastward from this point.

If not then only the 3 already aforementioned stations

    Why P42DC for Cajon Pass?

The Southwest Chief uses the P42DC locomotives, and this would bring the right level of realism and authenticity to the route.

The Cajon Pass is one of the most iconic freight/passenger corridors in the U.S., with a complex mix of steep grades and beautiful desert and mountain landscapes, offering a great challenge for simmers.

Summary: Adding the P42DC to both the Pacific Surfliner (if can be made a future DLC for TSW) and Cajon Pass routes would expand the range of Amtrak services available in Train Sim World than what we already have and provide a new level of realism for those interested in American passenger railroads. Both routes are iconic in their own right, and with the P42DC, players could experience these routes with the same locomotives that operate in real life.

Thank you for considering these suggestions. I look forward to seeing the potential growth of TSW and the inclusion of these iconic Amtrak services. Come on guys you know we all want them lol. But at the end of the day it's up to you guys on that final decision.

Amtrak uses the SC44 Charger locomotives for the primary power on the Surfliners. P42's and Dash-8's pop up on them here and there, but they are not the main players. I think the Comarrow set with the P42 is still running, but most trains utilize the Chargers and push-pull bilevels.

That said, the community's been asking for the Genesis series for years but DTG seem to have an aversion to producing them. Honestly, all they'd have to do is follow the format of Skyhook's cargo packs; create a west coast pack and east coast pack, throw some scenarios and services together, and call it good. The routes and stations are already there for the most part, even if they are truncated from the full services, packs like these would breath some serious life back into some older routes and fill out some more diverse traffic in the newer ones.

P42s on Pacific Surfliner (a route we need) makes more sense. The SW Chief with P42s would be a layer on Cajon. The SW Chief arrives in Barstow really early in the morning (like 2AM or so). I would like both the P42DC Genesis and Siemens Chargers (both ALC-42 and Surfliner SC44). The P32-8BWHs could be cool to see too.

I have a custom Southwest Chief on these routes using classic Amtrak livery F40s. It's actually gorgeous watching the sun rise over the hills behind the train as it approaches Los Angeles.

100% agree we need a P42 and Superliner set. Honestly, it'd be a decent shout for a standalone DLC, with DTG overhauling a couple of timetables to add a few services like the SWC in CP and SBL, the Pennsylvanian on HSC, etc. I'd probably suggest releasing it alongside something like a Cascades route, with the route having its own native rolling stock for the majority of services, and a Coast Starlight layer for this, functioning similarly to how the Acela did with NYT and the Boston remaster.
